My family and I have been taking our pets to Acorn Hill Animal Hospital since the 1970s. Until a few years ago, Acorn Hill was run by Dr. Johnson. He was an honest, fair, and compassionate veterinary doctor. He was VERY knowledgeable and treated all kinds of animals. Unlike many other vets who seek to gouge concerned pet owners for all their worth, Dr. Johnson could tell you what the problem was without doing all of those expensive tests. There was a time I was skeptical about him so I took my pet elsewhere. About $3,000 later, various blood tests, scans and a stomach endoscopy to determine the problem with my dogs vomiting, I took him back to Dr. Johnson. One sniff of the dogs ears and he said, "yep, your dog has an ear infection....hes vomiting up phlegm and yeast that drained down his throat." $30 dollars later, I left Acorn Hill with Otomax and ear wash and my dog was better in a couple days. I never left Dr. Johnson again. I was sad when he passed away a few years ago...as were many of his clients. He was, by far, the MOST experienced and CHEAPEST vet in the county. Although Acorn Hill will never be the same without Dr. Johnson and no vet will ever compare to him, I am happy that the new vet that took over his business has kept some of his tradition alive. Acorn Hill is still the lowest cost for the best vets in town. Do not expect to be taken for a fool here....they do not try and woo you with fancy trinkets, mailers, and unnecessary service (all of which you pay a pretty penny for), but your pet will be in good hands and you can rest assured you are not being had.

I live in Helotes, where Dr. Clint Powell use to work, and when I heard he moved to Acorn Hill Animal Hospital I was willing to go the distance to try out this new place because I loved the work he had done before for my pets. I made the appointment and I am so happy I did. As soon as you walk in it starts everyone is very welcoming and nice to you making you feel comfortable. Then you go into the room where the tech takes the temperature and finds out exactly what you need and if you have any other concerns for your pet(s). Then Dr. Powell comes in and he is extremely wonderful you can actually tell he is there for your animal and to make sure they get the best care possible without breaking your bank. Dr. Powell and all of his techs are extremely helpful and I would recommend them a million times again. They are absolutely worth my 45 minute drive and I recommend them to all of my family and friends. Give them a try I promise you wont regret it.

This place is the place to go if you want a vet and staff who truly care for animals. My lil guy is very nervous around men and gets "barky" and sometimes growls. Well the first nurse was a gentleman to weigh him...reassured me that this is nothing different and made me feel very comfortable even though my dog was nervous. Most vets staff members show fear...and makes me upset. Now about Dr. Powell he was amazing with my dog. Again even though my dog was nervous, Dr. Powell had me standing so my dog was facing me and he was telling me everything he was looking for. Even though I brought my dog in for an ear infection, he did a full eyes, ear, nose, teeth, feet, belly, body check. So patient with him and most of all they give me options in case it was not within my budget. I appreciated this. All in all a great place, Great staff, and amazing Doctor.

Acorn Hill is the BEST hospital Ive ever been to. Doctor Powell and his staff have great bedside manner as well as being extremely knowledgeable. They were able to answer each and every question I had on any topic. They provide great care at AFFORDABLE prices. Dont take your pets anywhere else. No matter what part of San Antonio you live in, it is definitely worth the drive for the care of your pets they can provide.

Hes always available, hes got years of experience and diagnoses pet illnesses accurately without gouging you with unneccesary trial testing that makes Vet visits so expensive. He loves animals and is not just in it for the money. He is well-established in the San Antonio area (been practicing for well over 30 years) and provides exellent service.

They are cognizant of the final bill and provide options and good advice for any issues. And of course-- the care and attention to every pet that comes through the door always feels above and beyond!

GREAT PLACE! The whole staff loves my Trixie and the Dr. Ddoesnt beat around the bush and tells you whats going on. The vet helped us out and tries to make it as cheap as possible for any procedure, test or product you have to buy. We have been to 3 different vets around town and this is by far the best.

Amazing place to take your pet. I took my 18-year-old cat last week to let him go peacefully. They did a quality-of-life exam on him. Afterwards we decided he had some more time left . Its been a week now and I do not regret my decision .

Dr. Powell and his staff are friendly and courteous, they love animals, and they dont try to gouge pet owners in the wallets! There are probably 20 vets closer to our house than this one, but we still make the drive because its worth it.

The best vet around here. We travel a ways to see Dr Powell but it is worth the drive . He is very patient and knowledgeable as is his staff. My dogs love to go there . ....okay that is a little strange but true.
