Update (19/08/2015): So we have moved to Canyon Lake, and this is still going to be our vet. Through the death in 2014 of my old Siamese coot, to Hopscotchs fight against all odds after we brought him home, to the handsome, paralyzed Mr. Guest we found in the street (who finally found a good home with his foster mother in Austin); the staff has been compassionate and understanding with the diverse needs of our furry family. Added to that that you can schedule multiple pets in one visit, as well as the staffs willingness to work with you on unexpected events, and theres no reason for us to go anywhere else! Original Post: This is the third vet Ive used here in San Marcos, and I only wish Id discovered them 5 years ago. The first vet I tried was okay at first. I assumed the prices were reasonable and tolerated the front desk (usually someones daughter in high school) constantly putting me on hold and then ignoring me until 5 (when she hung up on me). Eventually, it grew to be too much of a hassle despite the convenience of it being right down the road. So I started using Four Paws. They were great, but crazy expensive and a bit too far out (practically in Wimberley). So then I started using this vet. Pros: · Advantage II is about $15 cheaper here than the previous 2 vets I used. · Extremely friendly staff. Theyll remember you, too. · Can schedule multiple pets (including different species) in the same visit for the cost of just 1 office visit. · If you stop in for a quick checkup on a sick pet (like after finishing a round of medication), theres often not a visit fee. · Vaccines are reduced on Wednesdays and Fridays. · They dont push unneeded/unnecessary treatment/vaccines, especially on older animals. In fact, theyll recommend the opposite and give helpful advice, too. · They will try to accommodate walk-ins as best they can. Cons: · The office is a bit small, so the waiting room can get a bit crowded at times due to their popularity and that they will try to fit in walk-ins.

So I have had many horrible vet visits and am always skeptical about any vet, there was one review and not a good one. My 7yr old Blue Healer broke her leg this morning and this is the nearest vet to me. Aside from the fact that I dont get paid till the end of the week, and no vet would work with me but these guys. So, I took her anyways and to my surprise they rushed her right in and treated me with the same cash respect as any other customer. They asked me to leave my dog (whos notorious for eating vets when i leave) so they could put her in a cast. I warned them and left, an hour later I went by to check on her. She was done, back to her happy self, and she didnt try to eat any one why I was gone! I was shocked, she had a bright cast with "NO CHEW" wrote all over it, how cute. The entire visit including first time visit, x-rays, cast & meds all added up to what my last vet charged me for even calling her. They allowed me to give them a post dated check, and set a follow up appointment. The doc here is different than most in a great way, He was very loving and kind to my dog, and did not once try to "up sell" anything or question weather my dogs in good health. I HIGHLY recommend them, I know if your a good repeat customer they will go above whats needed for your dog. This is by far the BEST VET CLINIC ive ever dealt with. If you want a vet clinic where you and your pet feel at ease the second you walk in the door, this is the one. My lhasa apso Gabby and I had her first appointment there last night, and were immediately greeted by a couple of very warm, bubbly, make you feel welcome ladies. No vet anxiety at all by Gabby. We were soon escorted to the room to wait on the vet, Dr. Jeff, or as I heard the others calling him, Dr. J. Gabby had her full exam, all her shots, and not one wimper from her. I found Dr. J to be very knowledgable and likeable. As always, anytime I have a pet receive her shots, I keep a close watch on her afterwards, and Gab showed no sign of ever even receiving the shots, no after affects. Anyways, that evening i got to thinking about needing to get Gab microchipped, so we returned to the vet clinic first thing this morning. Gab walked right in, no hesitation and basically announced "hey, we are back". So I had her microchipped, something I had been needing to get done, it took but a moment, and I dont think Gabby even knew Dr. J had done it. So, my thoughts, my recommendation: if you are looking for an excellent, friendly, professional veterinarian clinc to take your pets to, this is the one! Animal Care Center of Hays county.

I love love love this vet. I adopted my terrier mix from the San Marcos shelter and this is where they sent him to receive his first vaccinations and where I had to pick him up from on his adoption day. I used this place for 2 1/2 years while I was in living there. My dog has gotten shots and neutered at this place and hes always been treated well. I couldnt be happier that the shelter chooses this place to send their animals. The vet and all the staff are great with the people and animals. They remembered me after the first time going and always offer great discounts. Ive never had more than a 10 minute wait to see the vet even when I had to take him in suddenly because he had a reaction to his vaccinations. After that visit and hims getting neutered they even called to check up on him. When I called to set up an appointment at 2 pm on a certain day the receptionist even told me if I went after 4 pm it would be 20% off. Whenever I had to get an extra test during the same visit they didnt end up charging me for it. These are great people here and theyre not just out for money. I only wish I still lived in San Marcos so my pup could still go to him. Again I love this place I wish I could it more stars.

Half a star, The vets are uncaring and cold. I brought my elderly dog and had never seen them before. I offered to call my pets normal vet so that they could better understand his medical history. They took great offense to this and were very unprofessional in the manner they handled me mentioning that the other vet could help. They kept my poor buddy for a little over an hour and asked me to come back and pick him up. They said they could put him down there but instead they told me to take him home and go to my OTHER vet, in a very snooty tone. I kept my dog planning to take him to his normal vet in Lake Travis in the morning, however the pain was too much and he got worse, I had to rush him to New Braunfels and have him put down there at 1am, in much more pain than he needed. This is a terrible place and they care more about closing and going home at 6pm then putting a dog down in pain. RIP Malcolm 11-10-15
