I would like to start out saying I never write bad reviews but I feel very strongly about this experience. If I could give negative stars I would. I brought my 16 week old kitten there because the reviews looked promising. It was a traumatic experience for both me and my kitten. There were many things that happened that upset me during this appointment but I think the most upsetting one was that my three pound kitten was forcefully pinned down by the vet and the vet tech. The vet didnt even try to calm her they just took her out of the carrier and pinned her to the table even though she wasn’t resisting or being difficult. The vet tech grabbed not only her scruff (which I know doesn’t cause pain) but also skin on her back which definitely does. I would like to inform you that my kitten actually has no problem taking shots or being handled in a gentle and calm manor. This treatment was completely uncalled for and even if dealing with an aggressive animal you never pin them down like that. You get a towel to wrap them in and calmly hold them down. I found out that the vet had me sign off on unnecessary procedures. You have to wait six months before retesting a cat for FIV at such a young age. He had her retested after one month so now I will have to get it done again. He did offer to do the retest in six months at no charge but its not right to put an animal through a stressful test without reason. He then proceeded to tell me that my cat was positive for feline leukemia (she isn’t) and apologized for calling it the wrong disease four times. When I realized that my kitten wasn’t old enough for the retest to even mean anything I asked him why he suggested it. He said that the shelter vet must have misinformed me. My kitten has never been in a shelter which I told them when they took her history. He made no effort to actually make me feel like he cared about me or my pet. I called to cancel my next appointment because I found another vet. When I did I spoke with Dr. Nia Perkins, the owner who did apologize but as I explained to her I left her practice in tears, there is nothing that could be done to regain my business. The whole appointment lasted two and half hours which was made up almost entirely of waiting and only 15 minutes of actual vet face time. I think the most concerning part about this is that Dr. Elton Vyfhuis (the vet who facilitated this horrible experience), called me back to ask me why I had complained and proceeded to argue that his practices were sound and that his behavior was justified. I just think this was completely unnecessary especially because all I wanted was for them to send my records. I could never in good conscious recommend this veterinarian practice. I would never return and caution others from bringing their pet there.

I highly recommend Paws, Purrs & Exotics Animal Hospital (PP&E). Weve been taking our dog, Ruby, to PP&E for 4 years (since 2009). Ruby has received excellent care for everything ranging from annual check ups, micro-chipping, the occasional illness, a teeth cleaning, to minor surgery on her foot. Drs. Vyfhuis & Perkins and their staff show great compassion and empathy toward their patients and do a great job of explaining your pets health needs and answering questions. The prices seem reasonable for the DC-area. We found an amazing Vet in Dr. Vyfhuis; and even though weve recently moved to Maryland, we plan to continue to bring Ruby to PP&E.

I took my dog here to get a heartworm test and nails trimmed. They tech and vet were very nice and gentle with my dog, I also just switched to another vet solely because I want my dog and cat to see the same vet, at the same time, and my new vet facilitates this and had better prices... I called to get records transferred and that was done in like 2 minutes. Very efficient office. I will return here if my bearded dragon ever needs medical care!

I love Paws Purrs and Exotics Animal Hospital! We had our toy poodle, Yoshi, examined by the vet. She is expecting a litter before Christmas. The staff is very friendly and the doctors take their time with our questions. Excellent experience. Oh, and the events are fun too. We went to a pet birthday party for a friend and they had a pet costume ball on Halloween. Love this place!

Not sketchy at all! Not sure you can be sketchy in that part of Old Town if you know Old Town. Dr. V is wonderful- and very knowledgeable. I have never felt rushed at this office- and they squeeze me in when needed. I have been with them for four years- large lab and skittish cat! He is not just for exotics! And his prices are reasonable- very reasonable for Old Town.

The staff are very patient and caring. The doctor is taking extra good care of my dog Chico. He has been very patient with my new shelter pup, and shows him plenty of love when he comes for visits.

The doctors and the support personnel are great but I think that paying over 500$ for a cat spay procedure is way too much
