This review is purely a comment on this practices business and administrative procedures. This specifically pertains to Arlington Eye Center and the Pediatric services provided by Melissa Kerns and her staff. I have been bringing my daughter in for 1.5 years (shes only 2) for just basic examinations. We did sign a waiver 1.5 years ago that if certain procedures were performed that were not covered by insurance, we would pay. The last time I took my daughter, the physician did a refraction to check her prescription. My daughter doesnt wear glasses. She never has. And no prescription was given. Whether a refraction was necessary or not, I am not medically trained to determine. The physician did the refraction without explanation of the cost, coverage, or necessity. Im not judging the physician necessarily because shes a professional but also an employee. She does what she is trained to do. However the practice wanted to bill me after the fact ($55) without any explanation during the course of the entire hour we were there in the office during which they could have explained what they needed to do. They simply stuck a bill in my face, and said, please pay. My good friend is an opthamologist and has said that he would only charge for a refraction if he was actually giving a prescription. Thats the point of a refraction. If theres no "product" given to the patient, he doesnt in good conscience feel it is his right to charge for something that the patient isnt going to take away. To say nothing of that fact, that not once during my daughters visit, were we told that there would be a charge over and above our co-pay. This is simply poor customer service, poor management, and poor medicine. Businesses that are too lazy to inform their customers (patients) simply do not deserve my money or loyalty.

Possibly the worst medical experience Ive ever had. The appt process wasnt very friendly to begin with and its not like they smile or say hello when you arrive on time or anything like that, or greet you as a "new customer", but it was the treatment by Dr. Fuchs and her colleague that cinched it. No explanations or description of what was going to happen occurred. After two sets of eye tests, including one where Dr Fuchs touched the area around my eyes without telling me beforehand (this is after Ive said Ive nervous about eye exams!), and because I am very sensitive to having someone poke around my eyes, Dr Fuchs offered to use the pressure meter they use on babies. I said that was a good idea. When she went to get it she couldnt get it to work, fumbling with her fingers all over it. She then handed me off to a colleague without explanation who then proceeded to attempt to put eye drops in my eyes. I said whoa, whats this all about. She then basically said that unless I agreed to have my eyes dilated right then and there, they werent going to write up my eyeglass prescription and I "didnt have to pay." When I pointed out that the "baby eye pressure device was broken" she said that "that test didnt matter" and repeated that Dr Fuchs "wouldnt see me again unless I had my eyes dilated." I said I would re-schedule for the eye dilation exam as my anxiety level was increasing but after realizing I was being hurried and bullied into tests I did not understand, I left anyway without scheduling another visit. I am now looking for an eye doctor who has taken patient communication courses and whose has staff who dont bully.

HORRIBLE DOCTORS!!!!!! HORRIBLE STAFF!!!!!! I called to reschedule my appointment for my newborn baby and was informed that I was not on the schedule to be seen that day even though I had made the appointment the day before. After being placed on hold a second staff member gets on the line and says, "The doctor said if you are not here today by 1:00 then social services will be called". I informed her that I would schedule with another facility and filed a complaint with VHC. After filing the complaint, Social services came to my home address day later. After less than 15 minutes the case was closed. The staff is rude and talks to potential patients in very condescending tones. Take your business elsewhere. I did

I called--as a new patient, new to the area--saying I had had an optical emergency, explained what had happened, asked if could I be seen, and the receptionist sighed, and said they could "fit me in" a month and half later. I explained that that might not work as Id gotten a caustic chemical in my eye and was told to get my cornea checked to see how severely I burned it and if it needed antibiotics and she said, "Oh sorry" and hung up. I might have been a little short in my reply, but come on. The next eye doctor I called, capital vision, were super concerned and helpful.

By far the best eye doctor Ive visited. Incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I had a rather rare eye infection and Dr. Patel quickly identified the issue and began treatment. Their office is lovely, staff helpful, and their location offers a number of specialists in the building to provide comprehensive treatment, if needed. I can not recommend the office and Dr. Patel highly enough!

Started with my mother 25 years ago and I am still going. Excellent doctor. Had cataract surgeries with Dr Gaspar and it was a good experience - no problems ever. I have recommended and my friend agree.
