Ever since I was a kid, I have been very sensitive about my eyes and do not trust them to just anyone. I have worn glasses since 1st grade, worn contacts since 9th and now wear mutifocal contacts and progressive lens glasses (Im 45 now). I dont trust my eyes to just anyone. I recently switched from a different practice to Dr. Schultz and his team. I am so glad I did! I received such caring, friendly and professional service! After years of expressing a problem with wearing contacts (dryness, itchy and uncomfortable) when I was going to the previous doctor and gave up on wearing contacts, I was now finally being heard by a doctor who actually cared, listened and earnestly wanted to help fix this problem. Dr. Schultz did a thorough exam, ruled out any other causes, and concluded that I should change to a different brand of contacts as well as a different cleaner. I love wearing contacts again!!! Further, since I need back up glasses, I ordered glasses from their optical shop, and the opticians were friendly and professional. My glasses were adjusted to a great fit, and I have not had any trouble adjusting to progressive lenses like I did with glasses from previous optical shops. They also have an awesome selection of frames! I have also been to medical offices wear you could cut the tension among the staff with a knife. I do not get that vibe from Dr. Schultzs office which is a testimony to his leadership. I highly recommend this practice!

Upon paying and checking out, after a long and frustrating experience, the receptionist asked me about scheduling my appointment for next year. I politely said I would be looking for a different eye doctor and did not need to schedule another appointment. She was clearly perturbed by what I said. That evening I received a long, unprofessional, and borderline abusive email from Dr. Schultz. He has recently taken over the practice from Dr. Sutherland who I have seen since about 2000. In addition to completely bashing Dr. Sutherland with unsubstantiated cheap shots, he said the following in his email to me: "Ive done this long enough to know there are two types of patients we encounter, those who appreciate thorough comprehensive care and those who really dont. I believe you are the latter and most patients who dont value their eyes go to Cost-Co or Walmart. I hope if you go to another office and it takes more that 30 minutes you give them the same treatment you gave us. If you ever have a real problem that Cost-co cant solve please come back." Although I was admittedly impatient the morning of my appointment, I was not at all rude and certainly did not deserve the kind of personal attack I received from Dr. Schultz via email. If you are looking for an eye doctor in the Williamsburg area, I would highly recommend going elsewhere. I sure do miss Dr. Sutherland.

Last two visits less than satisfactory. I had been a patient at this building for at least a decade and never had a single issue until the past year. I had a surprise fee at check out that I have never had before, even at my first visit of the new practice, paid it and then my prescription was incorrect and the new contacts I attempted per Schultz advise were awful! Went back in attempt to correct and was informed I would have to pay again even though on the phone I was told I would not. There was no time constraint conveyed to me during this phone call. Also, if I wanted to purchase glasses at your store I will do so, actually I always have, but to be paraded to the store before seeing the doctor seems like an uncomfortable sales technique and diminished the eye care I was seeking. Also she was rude next door when I replied that the glasses I was currently wearing were the ones I wear daily. Sorry if this style isnt what you like but its what I like. The rest of my family left after one visit after the change of ownership. I should have taken their advise then. I will not be returning.

I had a horrible experience at this office. Update: After posting my original review I was contacted by the offices patient advocate. We discussed the inaccurate information that was given to me by the receptionist, in addition to the overly pushy man in the glasses side of the office. The phone call seemed like an honest attempt to amend any issues that I had with my appointment. However, at the end of the phone call the patient "advocate" was very insistent that she wanted me to change my review. I told her that when the problem was amended that I would consider updating my review. However, this has yet to happen. I was promised by this patient advocate that I would receive a refund check in the mail for the copay I paid in the office. This conversation took place over a week ago and I have yet to receive a check in the mail. I would like everyone to know that this eye office does a great eye exam. However, the patient advocate was clearly more concerned that I left a bad review... when she should have honestly tried to fix the issues at hand.

I came to Dr. Schultz office with my eyes in critically bad condition. I had been seeing another Dr. In town without any success in recovery. I was literally sitting at home, unable to do anything - I could barely even open my eyes because they were so bad. I had suffered a corneal abrasion and also from what I believed to be dry eye. Dr. Schultz and his staff welcomed me into the office and began what has now been 1 1/2 years of therapy to recover my vision. I have tried to be a very compliant patient. I have done everything they asked me to do. It has been a long journey but, I am fully living my life again. I do have to wear glasses now - Im having fun with my new fashion accessories! I can NEVER thank every single person at Eye Center of Virginia for what they have done for me. I hate to think of what might have happened if I had not become a patient there. Never take your eyes for granted! I truly believe they helped me save my eyesight. I will forever be grateful for Dr. Schultz and the staff in this office. Jenni Bigelow

I visited Dr Schultz recently for the first time and was very happy with him, his staff and the overall environment. I always like it when it seems that the doctor respects his patients enough to be sure that the entire staff is welcoming and professional. I feel that I received a more throughout eye exam than I ever have before. Dr Schultz was able to identify that I have glaucoma and that Ive had it for a long time. This means that my previous doctors have missed the diagnosis. Im so relieved that I went to Dr Schultz as he has probably saved my eyesight! I recommend going to this office for your eye exams and have learned that not taking your eyes seriously can lead to a lot of health problems. I also got fitted for new glasses while I was in the office. I was very impressed by the staff in that department. Emily was so nice and knowledgeable. I feel like for the first time Ive purchased a pair of glasses that really look great on me and really work for my vision challenges. Thanks Emily and Dr Schultz!
