From the moment you want into Stahl Exotic Animal Veterinary Services you know you are in good hands. I was greeted by two very friendly receptionists, Danya and Brittany, and the clinic was beautifully decorated and arranged. They welcomed me and asked me to sit down in the waiting room. To pass the time (I was thirty minutes early to the appointment since you never know what NoVA traffic will bring you), I had a nice warm cup of coffee from "Stahlbucks" and watched a little of animal planet. Soon Nadja, a veterinary technician, brought me into an examination room and started asking a little bit about the little patient I brought in. She was extremely kind and seemed to really be "in it for the animals." Her demeanor was impeccable. After acquiring a brief history of my nephews hamster, she left stating that Dr. Costanzo would be in shortly. I initially was given a lot of flak from my co-workers about bringing a hamster to the doctor but this hamster is special. You see, my nephew has Asperger syndrome (form of autism). He never use to connect well with others until this hamster came into his life, about 1 year ago. He is the primary caregiver and it gives him responsibility and a sense of pride. He has learned to focus his anxieties and for the first time, in a long time, this little ball of fur is completely responsible for his laughter. Of course I didnt tell the doctor this, I thought itd be too much pressure, but my nephew was there for the appointment.... Dr. Costanzo came in and shook both of our hands. He had a warm smile and talked directly to me and my nephew about the patient. He gently performed a very thorough physical examination and even let us both listen to our hammies little heart beat! He diagnosed a respiratory infection and talked to my nephew (hes 8 years old) directly in terms he could understand. He then answered any and all questions we had and gave us some tips on how to care for him while he was sick. Dr. Costanzo is better than most human physicians I have been to. His compassion and knowledge of this little few gram animal was impressive. Not to mention, his way with children and being able to put things that are difficult to understand in an 8 year olds dialect. ***Ladies.... I did not see a ring and he is easy on the eyes!*** Our appointment went for over 30 minutes and we never felt rushed. We left with some medications and I am happy to report the little fur ball is improving! In fact, he is back to his old self. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone with an exotic animal. The building, the staff (specifically Dr. Costanzo and Nadja), and the follow-up is exemplary. Keep up the great work!

To preface, I have not visited the new clinic personally. I just moved to the area several months ago, and one of our cockatiels has injured his toe. Having spoken to a number of regional exotic veterinarian offices by phone, I was seeking medical advice and a price quote, as the online research for this injury was basically split as to whether medical intervention was even necessary, and its expensive just to walk in the door most places. The woman who answered the phone, Camille, was profoundly polite, extremely compassionate, and most importantly actually answered all of my questions with answers, not skirting. Having worked in medicine for eight years, I do sympathize with not being able to dispense significant medical advice by phone for the sake of liability. However, basic veterinary questions seem to me to warrant at least basic answers. Camille was knowledgeable while remaining appropriately general, and gave me current general pricing (which is all I asked for; a general range) for everything we discussed. I asked follow-up questions and she patiently and pleasantly helped me through the conversation to come to a decision I believe we both felt was in the birds best interest while considering his humans concerns. I have rarely felt as valued and respected by any physician, no matter the species of expertise, as I did by this office. Camille, thank you for your assistance and your generosity of time. To anyone looking for an avian vet, any decision I make to bring either of our cheepy-cheeps to a doctor will end in my going to Stahl based on this phenomenally informative and professional exchange by telephone. Review-worthy. Thank you!

We arrived at SEAVS under dire circumstances, and will return in the future because of the truly expert and compassionate care we received. The facility itself is spectacular - very clean, nicely decorated, and modern. During our visit we were given a tour of the clinical side of the facility - and were extremely impressed. The staff is warm and engaging - true professionals, every single one of them. From the over-the-phone advice we received, to the ease of making a first-time appointment, and the warm greeting as we walked through the front door, our whole family felt cared for. We brought our daughters beloved Jackson Chameleon in to see Dr Greg Costanzo. Dr Costanzo spoke directly to our 8-year-old, and treated her with respect and tremendous compassion. He boosted her confidence, offered reassurance, and still managed to explain what happens when - despite our best efforts - our animal friends have to leave us. We ended up losing "Henry" that day - but our care from SEAVS did not end there. Dr Costanzo truly went above and beyond, even sending our daughter a sympathy card that very eloquently helped her move through her grief. We received a quality of service that we never imagined possible, at a facility staffed by professionals who truly care about their patients/patients human families. We highly recommend SEAVS!

I took my little ferret Sophie to SEAVS where I saw Dr. Summer because her condition was quickly becoming critical. Upon arrival they calmly but immediately took my Sophie back to check vitals and evaluate her. I was very impressed with the care and compassion they showed Sophie and I. Dr. Summer discussed all of my options with me and we decided the best option was to put Sophie to rest as she was a very sick little ferret.... Sophies final moments were very peaceful as they gave her pain medication and a sedative so she would fall asleep in my arms before they took her back for euth. They honored my wishes making it so her last memory was of me and my last memory was of her alive. They brought her back to me in a little box just as I had asked. They also brought 2 locks of her fur and a BEAUTIFUL clay print of her paws. Sophies death has not been easy in any way for me but I am happy they were able to help her pass over to the rainbow bridge. Thank you SEAVS, you have a phenomenal team of staff members, technicians, and doctors.

This afternoon, we got a phone call from a vet on duty the day an incident occurred and were told why we were charged a late fee, but never told about it prior to it being charged. We were very late, but I asked if we would be seen or maybe had to wait or thought we might need to reschedule, but were taken in less than 10 minutes. The vet apologized and I felt better about the situation. I was also told that there is a notice regarding late fees placed at the front desk, which I totally missed. I will never forget that late fees are charged if you are more than 10 minutes late. The incident was our fault, but I still think we shouldve been told about the fee prior to having it tacked on to our bill; the vet agreed. We never meant to inconvenience anyone and we have not allowed the matter to sour our opinion of this fine establishment. We appreciate this service and everything they have done to help us and our bird, who is so happy once she returns from her bi-weekly appointments!
