Like many others I am only giving one star because I have to give at least one in order to warn you. I have several complaints about this office. 1. While all of the doctors have been very nice, you will NEVER have the same doctor twice. I am not pregnant and only have been for annual exams, but it would still be nice to have the same doctor considering how humiliating this experience is in the first place. 2. They LOVE to do "follow-ups" so they can get your copay and bill your insurance. Be warned that a "follow-up" is simply setting in that office for 45 minutes so they can take your blood pressure. Thats it, no more no less and I can do that myself and save myself $40 and save my insurance company a ton as well. Places like this are why insurance premiums are so high! 3. Three times I have had appointments and have been called last minute to reschedule. All of this after I had already planned time off from work which is not always easy to rearrange. 4. I had a "follow-up" appointment scheduled for me that I NEVER EVEN KNEW ABOUT! Ironically the only way I ever knew that appointment existed was because they called and told me they needed to reschedule it. After my last appointment I went to check out and was told "Youre good to go your insurance covers everything today. Have a nice day." There was no mention of a follow-up and no offer to schedule the next annual. Furthermore, there was no reason for a follow up. I received the results of my pap in the mail and everything was normal. Im sure this is all a scam so that if I didnt show they could bill me or my insurance. I am currently on the phone right now ON HOLD to straighten this out and have been on hold for over 20 minutes. I will continue to stay on the line just so I can give them a piece of my mind and have my records transferred elsewhere.

AVOID THIS OFFICE, particularly if you have insurance through the marketplace. After a terrible experience at a different office, I decided to look for another OBGYN. I called Generations of Women to see if they accepted my insurance and they did, so I asked to schedule an appointment to receive an IUD. They told me Id have to have a consultation first, and to print and fill out the new patient information on their website. I showed up to my appointment with my information, etc. No long wait. I saw a doctor who could not keep her personal opinions in her pants and evaluated how (ir)religious the various methods of birth control were (she explained if I got an IUD she would not be the one performing the procedure because of her morals). On a side note: if youre interested in Paraguard, this is not the place for you. Not long after this "informational" visit, I received a huge bill from my insurance company. The GOW office billed my visit as a New Patient visit, which means most of it was not covered and will go towards my deductible. Despite the fact that I was clear on why I was there -- a BC consultation, which would have been covered by my health insurance -- nothing could be done. On a three-way call with someone from the office and a health insurance agent, my agent expressed sympathy that the office was basically just refusing to work with me. They basically argued that we just *happened to discuss birth control*, rather than it being the ONLY REASON I was there. Ive been dealing with this claim for MONTHS, but GOW refused to bill the visit any other way, and showed a complete and utter lack of sympathy to my situation -- Im a full-time graduate student working part-time. Theres a reason I have insurance through the marketplace... to avoid any more large bills I cant pay. Thanks for nothing.

**MUST READ**DO NOT GO HERE! I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Mercado, but not with Dr. Blackwood or Blackwell. I went in for a blood work and was told what other exams needed to be performed. After coming back to get the exams I was told that I needed, I received a huge bill! I called my insurance why I was getting charged and not covered for it and the insurance staff stated it was a result from the OB/GYN doctor putting the wrong code were it made it seem that I was the one that wanted to get the exams perform even though the Doctor was the one who told me what check-ups I needed as a result of my blood work. I went back several times to speak with the Doctor and manager multiple times to straighten it out and if she could fix the error, but they always came up with an excuse of their availability. I even tried calling several times and they will always come up with an excuse. Till this day, we still have the huge lab bills getting sent to us all for exams THE DOCTOR HERSELF SAID THAT I NEEEDED AND NOT MYSELF. I was just doing what my Doctor said I needed to do to keep myself healthy and all of this resulted in a huge bill that my husband and I now have to worry about. So, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS IT IS YOUR LAST CHOICE. There are other wonderful Doctors there like Dr. Mercado, but when you run into situations like this it makes it hard to trust the staff. Thank you for your time and I truly hope none of you runs into a situation like this in the future!

Where to begin. First off, I stopped going after my appointment was a good 35 seconds long, and I was not asked basic questions, like changes to your medical history or medications. I was rushed out and upon calling to ask for tests, I was told that my insurance wouldnt pay for that. Never once did they bother to contact my insurance or ask me to. Never mind, that now while at a different doctor those tests were requested without me asking to request them, and Aetna paid for them 100% no questions asked. This brings me to my medical records. For as much of a pain as requesting my records has been you would think that they are following HIPAA. EXCEPT THEY VERBALLY TOLD MY DOCTOR"S OFFICE MY RESULTS (against HIPAA), but now when I need something in writing THEY WILL NOT SEND MY RECORDS. I requested those over 2 MONTHS ago with no response. Finally, after several phone calls and faxes (literally faxed the request 10 times in a row) they faxed back "their medical request form", I then faxed that in another 5+ times in a row and still my doctors office has not received my records. Terrible excuse for medical care and terrible excuse for front office staff. Save yourself the trouble and start driving to Richmond or Waldorf, if you care about your health.

Yet another problem since my last posting below. Went in for a routine annual pap and breast exam and just received a very large lab bill. the office without my permission or even informing me that they would do so ran EVERY STD test during a normal routine pap. I am married with a 10 month old. Why would this office run all of these tests that insurance wont cover since they arent considered preventative without my approval. This office is the worst OBGYN I have ever been to and recommend that you DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT GO HERE. I went in for my annual exam. During my exam I asked questions an had a conversation about my health with the the healthcare provider. Because I decided to ask questions I was billed for two visits. It is apparently customary for the office to bill you for a preventative visit AND an office visit if you decide to have any conversation at all during you annual visit. This is absurd that I am only allowed to have a pap smear and breast exam without being billed twice. I have never had a obgyn office bill me for asking questions during my annual exam....guess I inconvenienced them by expecting that they were there to discuss my health
