I have been a patient of Dr. Ma for a few years, but my last visit was the final straw. Every appointment I have had with him, from sinus infection to physical to injury appt., has had a minimum 1 hour wait time. He wore flip flops (!) and no socks (!!!) every time he examined me. He talks very fast, always seems extremely rushed and scattered, and often doesnt pause long enough to let you respond to his questions beyond a quick yes or no. When I went for an exam to check for potential skin cancers, it seemed like he barely looked at my skin. He looked at each section of my body for no more than 2 seconds (and I am not exaggerating) before moving on the next part! And when I pointed out moles that I was worried about and told them they had changed color and size, he told me they were fine without looking at them more closely. I felt like he did not care about my concerns and wanted to get the appointment over with as soon as possible. He was massively condescending to me at every visit. He claims that he does not want to take a "paternalisitc" attitude towards his patients, but he certainly did exactly that with me. He is very vocally Christian, and claims in his office literature that his "holistic" approach to medicine means finding a life balance between spirituality and science, but in my experience this is not true (he implied during one visit that he does not believe in evolution). I am not religious, and he spent a great deal of time during my appointments trying to figure out why I wasnt Christian instead of addressing my actual health concerns. He even tried to convince me to go to church. At my final appointment, when he left the exam room to do something, he played for me a SERMON from LifePoint Church. I turned it off as soon as he left. That is unacceptable behavior from a physician. I do not go to the doctor to be bombarded with Christian messages or to have my personal beliefs belittled. He often implied that those who are not Christian live shorter, less fulfilled lives, are unhappy and more prone to disease. Obviously, this is nonsense. He also implied that abortion can cause future infertility, which is factually incorrect. When I told him that I knew better than that, he looked away and turned red. He also implies that practicing abstinence until marriage is the best course of (in)action, which is a laughably unrealistic and narrow minded position for a doctor to take. Needless to say, after my last appointment, I will not be returning. Do not go to Dr. Ma unless you are already a Christian or enjoy being condescended to, preached at, and kept waiting. Too bad, really, his nurses were fantastic.

Dr. Ma is a Christian and an excellent family physician. His staff (especially Angie) is top notch and the epitome of what receptionists and nurses should be. Angie could really needs to teach a class professionalism and customer service for her comrades. I am thankful for the service they provide my family and have done so for over a dozen years. Dr. Ma does take time with each patient. If you are not the first patient, you will have a wait time, so pack your patience. His review of your medical history will be thorough and his recommendations are not cookie cutter. He takes each patient individually and give ethical weight to his recommendations. I have gone to other specialists in the area, that will quickly try to prescribe long-term medications or expensive procedures and they do not know me from Adam, but I will not do them without running them by Dr. Ma first, because I believe in his methods of being conservative and holistic. After your check-up, Dr. Ma will usually play a self-help video while he prepares your prescriptions, medical orders, etc. I appreciate him taking the time to address the whole person, not just the physical being presented in front of him. Most items shown spark family discussions or lead to a bookmark for follow-up educational materials for later. We need more Dr. Mas in the world. Finding him was one of the best recommendations I have ever received from a friend when I moved to Fredericksburg. Please do not be discouraged by the wait time. Your health is worth the quality care he provides. Bring your ipad, cellphone or good book and get the best family practitioner in town. I thank God for him.

I LOVE THIS MEDICAL PRACTICE! I have never been to a doctor that cared so much for his patients! Dr. Ma takes his time with EVERY patient and never limits you on how many problems you can discuss during an appointment. Dr. Ma is a laid back "patients doctor" he doesnt act like hes God or treat you as if you arent intelligent enough to make your own medical decisions. He is a religious man, but in my experiences with him he has never belittled my thoughts or pushed his beliefs on me. His staff is very friendly and ensures your concerns are addressed promptly. Dr. Ma wears flip flops to work, that tells you he is a very personable guy that treats everyone as if they are his friend and shows genuine concern for you. He also values your time and because he is so thorough during his appointments he is very aware of the delays in scheduling, Dr. Ma implemented on call waiting so his staff will call when your turn is about 30 minutes away so you dont have to wait in the doctors office! He also shows informative videos and literature while you are waiting for your prescriptions, he bases what media he shows you on your specific issues or concerns. Dr. Ma has ALWAYS ASKED me if I wanted to watch the videos and has never been put off if I told him no. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE SEEKING A CARING DOCTOR THAT ISNT IN PRACTICE JUST FOR THE MONEY!

If I could give this "doctor" zero stars I would. He is a crook and a horrible excuse for a doctor. He went through my medical history with a fine tooth comb for about an hour, made me watch a "self help" video on You Tube and told me I need to get tested for STDs to make sure there was no infidelity in my marriage since we arent Christians. I was in the office for about 2 hours. He then sends me a bill for an extended visit! While I was there he even asked me if I was surprised he was spending so much time with me. Well, now I know why! Because he knew he could charge me for it. I understand going through my history but using You Tube to treat patients? And why bring religion into it? What difference does that make in my health? Absolutely horrible.

Dr. Ma is very professional. You may wait but not everything is microwavable. Your health should be a priority. If you know you have a wait time then dont plan anything. He cares enough for us to be thorough. One should appreciate that fact. He may order tests but apparently it came behind from you complaining about an issue. As far as Jim being a Christian I think its refreshing. As for the videos we watch they are informative and hes giving you something to listen to while hes finishing up your visit in his office. Take good care of yourself and stop complaining that he has a lot of patients. He must be doing something right. Dr. Ma is very professional.
