So the reason I give them one star has nothing to do with the treatment of our pets. When it comes to that they should get 10 stars. They went above and beyond to take care of my sweet kitty when he got sick. The reason I am giving them one star is because when I took my kitty in to see them because he was sick I specifically told them I DO NOT have a lot of money so please do what you can to help him, but DO NOT do more than a few hundred because that is all I can afford. So what did they do....they ran the bill up to OVER $2600 and waited to tell me till after the fact so there was nothing I could do about it! I told them repeatedly during his treatment that I could not afford a huge vet bill and they still did it anyways. Then when I started to panic when I saw the bill they told me so politely that they would work with us and set up a payment plan. So i thought ok maybe they arent that horrible. NOPE! We got a few bills in the mail after that saying pay in full then we got a notice from their attorney saying they were going to come after us for the money and oh by the way the new total is $4800! What the hell! Yes they took great care of my pet and yes they are very friendly people, BUT AT WHAT POINT DOES SCREWING OVER THE PET PARENTS MEAN ANYTHING! I will never go back there again for this reason I cant trust them to keep their word. Now I am struggling even more than before because of them. So beware unless you have lots of money to spend on vet bills you may want to take your business some place else. Its a shame too. I was so impressed with the way they cared for my kitty I would have been a client for life if only they would have cared for my fiance and I the same way.

When I first arrived at Ft. Monroe in 1998 I needed to find a veterinarian and a co-worker quickly referred me to Armistead - 18 years ago. In that time five fur-babies have passed through my life and now I have two more. Since then I have retired from the Army and relocated to almost the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. I pass countless other vets in the 25 miles from my house to Armistead, but continue to make the trip because of Drs. Adams and Bruce. One of the things I like best is the walk-in versus appointment process. Sometimes you wait and sometimes you are in and out, but I know that well be seen and not have to wait days for an appointment. Yes, it is pricey, but not as pricey as some of the vets in Virginia Beach. Overall Ive only had one bad experience, but things worked out in the long run. One alternative to the price is pet insurance. Regardless of whether you have pet insurance or not, my money (no pun intended) is still on Armistead.

Aug 11, 2014 by jcapwill22 When looking for a vet for my new puppy I will admit I was pretty tough on who I would go to.There were a lot of veterinarians to choose from and I did my homework. The one that I choose was Armistead Ave Veterinary. They have been wonderful. The minute you arrive you are made to feel welcome, you and your pet are warmly greeted and within a short time you are meeting with a doctor. The facillity is very clean and constantly maintained should a pet have an accident. The doctors really educated you as to what steps/maintenance you should focus on and how to maintain your pets maximum health to ensure a long healthy life. For convenience they provide a pet day care & boarding next to the veterinary hospital. It also is very clean and the pets are monitored and socialized with to ensure they do not miss their owners too much. I would recommend the veterinary hospital & boarding facilities to my family & friends.

The vet mixed up my dog’s two prescriptions so neither her ear inflammation or her skin irritation were getting better. After a few days of no change in her I researched her medication online and realized that the vets had made an error. When we went in with the medication to ask what had happened, they left us sitting there waiting and waiting while all of the doctors ‘consulted’ with one another. They realized they had made a mistake but were too arrogant to admit it. Instead they said “we can try switching them around but they can be used for either” (Too bad they actually cant). Had they simply been willing to admit they were wrong and apologized the situation may have been different. Instead, we’re having all of the records mailed to us and we will be taking our pets elsewhere from now on.

This vet only does walk ins so I have seen 2 different vets so far. The first vet and assistant were HORRIBLE. So horrible I didnt even want to come back, but did just to give a second chance and since they were already up to speed about my pets condition. They were rude, rolled their eyes, and asked me the same questions over and over and over. The assistant even asked me how much my pet weighed and what its temp was right after she took it (wasnt paying attention or writing anything down). However, the next visit I saw a different vet and assistant. They were both amazing. I will specifically ask for them next time I go in.

I have used Armistead Vet for years. The staff is always friendly and the Vets are always nice and thorough. 5 years ago I had a cat pass away after 18 yrs and I was devastated. They took me in the back since they knew she was dying and saw how upset I was in the lobby. They let me stay with her while she passed as long as I needed to and then sent me a nice sympathy card. I was very pleased. Now I have a 3 yr old cat that goes every 6 wks for nail clippings and I usually get in and out. I would recommend this vet to a friend/relative.

Weve used Armistead for years and their biggest come through for us is when we had to put down our loving family members OB I would German Shepherd. The veterinarian took us to the side and asked us to wait at least 24 hours to make sure we were making the right decision. The next day when it came down to having being done, the veterinarians and the staff couldnt have been more sympathetic. Especially staff member Walter who was a comfort to have nearby during this rough time.

I got to the office with my cat at 2:00 and was there until 3:00 and didnt see the vet until 2:40, at the earliest. The bill was $90 for the office visit, one shot, and includes $4 for the "biomedical waste disposal" which I found a bit pricey. An elderly lady who got there the same time I did left when I did and didnt even get to see the vet. I will be looking for someplace else for the next visit.

The office staff is very nice and for a walk in vet you get seen relatively quickly. A bit pricey, like any vet office. If I lived closer I would just go to the SPCA vet in Norfolk. Also, like almost every vet Ive met, the vets there tend to talk to me like Im an idiot. I hate that. But as far as actually treating your dogs, theyre amazing. The only people my dog will let clip her nails.
