During a recent visit at my sister’s home in Skykomish, my 94 year old mother fell. She couldn’t be moved without excruciating pain. So, a call was placed to 911. The Skykomish rescue squad (all volunteer) responded promptly. They acted professionally and with the utmost care. She was transported to the closest hospital in Monroe: The Valley General Hospital. While we weren’t too impressed with the emergency support team at the hospital, she was admitted into the hospital after it was determined that her shoulder had shattered. When the news of my mother’s accident spread to other family members and friends, opinions started rolling in as to what was the best hospital to treat her at. My sister and I were the only family at the hospital making decisions. We were focused on listening to all opinions and checking those hospitals in the greater Seattle area for the best (noting that nothing was too good for our mother). The same day she was admitted, the hospital’s orthopedic surgeon (a specialist), Dr. Lin, visited. He explained the options we had for our mother. Valley General Hospital didn’t have a great reputation. My sister had friends who worked for the “old” hospital and didn’t have good things to say about it. In fact, a family member in the medical field checked the health rating of the hospital and found that it flunked a board rating (F). But, that was some time prior to the “new” management staff and ownership. Evidently, a group purchased the hospital and turned around the negativity. We weren’t too focused on the hospital due to our pursuit of alternative “better” places for our mother. But, in order to have a rapid solution to the situation, we decided to have the operation with Dr. Lin at Valley General Hospital. And, we were so glad that we did. The hospital is a small hospital with a big heart. All members of the staff displayed a caring respect for the ill. We felt that whomever the nurse on duty was she would make us feel as though she was our mother’s private nurse. The hospital was clean, with modern equipment, and gave a feeling of being at home. The care that our mother received prior to surgery and post was so appreciated by us all. Her 7 day stay in the hospital couldn’t have been any better anywhere else. Dr. Lin was as professional as any doctor we have ever come into contact with. His “layman’s” explanation of the complicated surgery gave all of comfort in understanding what was happening. He has taken time to talk with family members at his office, at the hospital, and even in the parking lot. During this tragic family crisis, he was truly the hero that rose up to the challenge.

My experience with this Hospital is horrifying. My Husband was sent to the Monroe Evergreen Hospital for x-rays on his back, after a bad 4 story fall. After waiting for over an hour with my Husband whom was in very bad pain and no one else was in the waiting room, I went up to the lady at the desk whom had looked at us a several times and knew we had been waiting. Because I had given my husbands paper work to them when we first entered the Hospital. As soon as I made a fuse about how long we had been waiting and that it was very uncomfortable for my Husband to sit they took us right back. Our next even more horrifying experience with this uncaring, unprofessional establishment was when my husband was taken by ambulance to Monroe Hospital for a possible heart attack. on call the Hospital ER to check on my husband and see if I could come pick him up. I was first told that they didnt have anyone their by my Husbands name their. As I pushed to inform them that the paramedics told me they had to take my husband to Monroe ER cause it was the closest Hospital. At which point I was NOW told my husband had been their but he had left. Now I was getting very upset and informed this Hospital ER Receptionist that my husband had no car, as he was brought t the hospital in an aid car. How could they just let him go out in the cold snow with out money, car or phone. Now as I was really freaking out thinking of my Husband out who knows where on the dark streets in the cold snow. I called back Hoping to get a different staff person where now I was told my Husband was sitting in the ER waiting room waiting for me to pick him up. When I arrived and got my Husband he told me that the nurse had just told him that she had called his wife and she was on her way. OMG NO ONE EVER CALLED ME FROM MONROE HOSPITAL, INFACT I HAD TO CALL THREE TIMES TO FIND OUT WHERE MY HUSBAND WAS. DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS HISPITAL IF YOU CAN HELP IT.. THEY ARE RUDE AND UNCARING.....

The name has been changed to Evergreen Monroe, but make no mistake, the same passive aggressive nurses work here along with doctors that forgot what a Hippocratic Oath means. Definitely not up to the standards of Evergreen Kirkland, where we should have gone. Same antiquated equipment that doesnt even work with Evergreen Kirkland. Their computer network doesnt work with Evergreen Kirkland so theyre unable to verify reports, prescriptions, etc. I had a few doctors and nurses tell me it was networked but come to find out they were just patronizing me. Run down rooms and, god firbid you should need an MRI because thatll cost YOU a lot more then just the imaging. They have to take you by - AMBULANCE - across the parking lot to another building entirely. Had four different docs in a twelve hour period and upon getting admitted waited two hours to talk to the doctor - but she decided to go home instead of doing rounds. Very frustrating and unprofessional to say the least. Family was waiting also. This had a major snowball effect because as a result was denied medication. The doctor - the next day - took it upon himself to change doses that our specialist specifically told them to administer. I confirmed with our specialist myself that he told the doctor at the hospital exactly what to prescribe and he did not listen or apparently care. Ridiculous...this place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cannot believe Evergreen Kirkland endorses this place. Update: I was reading the other reviews and another patient said they waited days to clean her room....well same experience here. The bathroom was full of discarded linens that were there for a couple days from the previous patient. They never offered to help with a shower - not even a wash cloth. On the last day (day five) someone finally offered some wet wipes. The sheets were changed once in five days only because an advocate asked them to do so.

Adding to my original comment. I had these two sutures in my pinky finger. My insurance was billed over $1k with a $31 copay for myself. Yet I received a bill for over $600 ontop of this. My insurance told me this does not make sense. So not only is their billing department awful, for two sutures in a pinky it was apparently over $1700. If you read my review you will see just how amazing that was. No wonder the nurse kept trying to get me to bring surgical instruments home with me, I probably paid for those. She said they were cheap garbage anyways. Go elsewhere even for something simple like stitches it gets messed up. My hand healed terrible due to the bad suturing, one side was fine, but one side was too tight, making the skin not come together evenly due to the suture pressure on the one side. I went elsewhere to have the suture removed after not liking my experience there. I now have a scar tissue lump with what looks like an open sore, but thats just how the skin healed. Not to mention the fact he didnt just inject numbing agents in my finger normally, he literally jabbed them in there rough, a few times he went all the way through my finger and out the other side. He didnt notice and I had to keep telling him Because the medication was running down my Arm. To also add to this I told him I wasnt sure if I actually needed sutures, he said he would usually say no but since I was there he might as well. So he numbed it and actually opened it up further so he had something to sew. Above you read how that went, my pinky healed but took an extra month for the flap and bump to close and go down. Ill never return to this place.
