I had heard about Olympic Spine and Sports Therapy from a good friend who tried just about everything before finally getting relief with the help of Dr. Shelley. When I first came to see Dr. Shelley, I was nearly incapacitated due to low back pain caused by a herniated disc. The pain was in my lower back, and extended into the right hip and leg. On many days, I was unable to get out of bed at all. On good days, I was able to get from my bedroom to the bathroom with the aid of a walker. Even though I was taking pain killers and muscle relaxants, that short trip to the bathroom and back to the bedroom would cause such pain that I would shake for minutes after lying down. My teeth would rattle uncontrollably, and my knees would knock together. I could not sit upright and ate my meals lying on my side. I saw an emergency room doctor, my general practitioner, and a neurologist who ordered an MRI, and informed me that I need surgery, and soon. I asked both my general doctor and the neurologist about decompression. My general doctor knew very little about it, but encouraged me to at least look into any option that might avoid surgery. The neurologist told me that he had heard of decompression, but did not believe it would be successful for a severe low back condition such as mine. I’m glad to say he was wrong. I’ve gone from a point where there was literally no escape from constant pain to a point where I feel great!. Pain just isn’t part of my daily life anymore. I got my life back. There really isn’t a better way to say it. I had no life. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t work. I was taking so many meds that it was hard to even have a conversation. I never thought I would appreciate being able to do things like loading the dishwasher, taking out the garbage, driving a car, washing clothes, or mowing the lawn! In terms of work, recovery was a big deal! I remember how excited I was when I finished a phone call with a client and realized I was thinking about what they said and not about my back. Now It’s such a joy to be able to do things again like go to my son’s football games, attend my daughter’s concerts, go out on a date with my wife, attend church, have coffee with friends. It sure beats being in bed 24/7. The staff at Olympic Spine and Sports Therapy is an amazing group of people who are not just good at what they do, but are genuinely caring people, each of whom has a healing spirit. I think the staff is a reflection of the vision that Dr. Shelley has regarding care and healing and wellness.

"My back and foot pain is nearly gone and I danced at my niece’s wedding!" I suffered with low back pain and extreme pain in the heel of my right foot for about a year. It was getting progressively worse and I couldnt find a remedy. I tried physical therapy, anti-inflammatories and an injection of cortisone in my spine. It just kept getting worse. When I found Dr. Shelleys insert in the paper I decided to call and schedule a consultation. He performed a very thorough examination including neurologic testing no one had done before. He requested copies of my MRI report and took special x-rays on my low back. I was impressed that he took time to explain everything to me! He said that he was confident that he could help me, but that he would re-examine me after 3 to 4 weeks of treatment and if I wasnt progressing satisfactorily we wouldn’t continue treatment. Im glad to say that I did get better. Treatment was successful! The pain in my right heel and foot is gone. The pain in my low back is very mild now, and I am able to do more with less pain! My quality of life is so much better. I am able to go for long walks again and I can sit in the car longer with less pain. I took a trip by car to visit our son in Portland, Oregon and a plane trip to Wisconsin in June for my nieces wedding, both with only mild pain. I even danced two Polkas with my husband at my nieces wedding and enjoyed a two hour boat tour on the Wisconsin River! The staff at Olympic Spine and Sports Therapy are friendly, very competent and easy to work with. They were the only ones who relieve my pain without surgery and more medication. Kathy B. Kenmore WA

I was unable to walk, sit, stand or lie down flat and lived in screaming pain from a badly-damaged spine which had several herniated discs -- about to be sent to surgery -- when I went to this WONDERFUL, healing place. After a top-to-toe exam to see if they could help me before taking me, I was IN – and then treated by the most knowledgeable, supportive, excellent staff one could imagine!!! The organization in the entire building continues to amaze and impress me. The loving, moral support from staff adds to the healing experience, creating a sense of joy among the patients. In one week, I was Walking! Standing! Sitting! And able to Lie Flat in bed for the first time after 90 days of agony! Now, in my fourth week, I am better in all categories and pain is barely noticeable at times. I am living quite normally. But that is not enough for them. I am now in a class to undo all the strange modifications my body has made in order to permit me to live with the pain caused by a terrible car crash many years ago. They want to make me strong and straight -- to support my new pain-free body so it does not return to old patterns! I am forever-grateful to this awesome place which, I think, has saved my life. Deepest gratitude to all at Olympic Spine & Sports!

The doctors and therapists here are very professional and really know their stuff. However, I ran into a few problems within the first week of dealing with them. First, they dont do walk-ins. A lot of places dont, so thats not a huge deal. Second, I scheduled an appointment for 11 am. I came 10 minutes early with the paperwork they wanted me to fill out. I still had to wait there 50 minutes before the doctor took me back to examine me. I ended up missing an important appointment. Now, I thought maybe it was a busy day, this was excusable. I scheduled my next appointment for Thursday at 5:45 pm. I confirmed with the receptionist, put it down in my phone. I had to leave a very important seminar that I had already paid for early to make this appointment, but it was the only time they had available for that day and Friday. When I showed up, their system apparently showed that I had the appointment on Wednesday and that the doctor wouldnt be able to see me. The receptionist was very professional and apologetic about it, which is the only reason why this review isnt a one star. Bottom line, professional staff, but if they cant get their time management down, then I will be taking my business elsewhere, especially with how much they charge.

This place is amazing. I came here because my sister has been going to Olympic Spine & Sports Therapy over the past few months and she highly recommended Dr. Shelly and his team. She likes this office so much she drives an hour through Seattle and fights with traffic because they are worth the trouble. The staff was very welcoming, professional, helpful and easy to talk to. I was treated as a patient and not a number! After the initials evaluation I had gone back 3 days in a row and had already started to feel better! The physical therapy appointment was eye opening. I was surprised on how many things I’ve been doing wrong for so long and ways that I could correct them just by making the slightest adjustments and daily exercise! Everything was explained very clearly and confidently. I live in Chicago, IL and from what I’ve seen this place is defiantly worth trying and wish I could continue physical therapy here. Who knows, it might be worth it for me to stick around awhile longer! They truly know what they are doing here and are very supportive.
