Do not see Terry Rice if you are trans. Before taking HRT, I was out as trans in my personal life but didnt feel the need to speak to my doctors about it. I do not get read as trans, therefore I would just put up with constant misgendering for the sake of getting the care I needed. After attending the Gender Odyssey in Seattle, a doctor from California said in their panel that even if you have not done anything to physically transition, you should still tell your doctor that you are trans. At the time, I was trying to get treatment for endometriosis, which is a very painful condition affecting the uterus. Uterine tissue grows out of the uterus, attaching itself to other organs in your system and causing extreme pain as hormone fluctuations cause the tissue to grow and shrink throughout the menstrual cycle, pushing and pulling on your organs. The nurses and doctors were extremely against me getting a hysterectomy, because "you are a young woman, and women change their minds." I explained that I had no plans to utilize my fertility, and that if I decided I wanted kids later I was comfortable with adoption. Endometriosis has a very high likelihood of causing infertility or deadly ectopic pregnancies in any case. However, they still would not listen to me, saying that I was too young (I was 22-23) to make that decision and even if there was a 1% chance that I might be able to carry a pregnancy in the future they would not remove my uterus. They simply would not believe that I really had *no* plans to birth children, and even if I were a cis woman that is extremely disrespectful and patronizing. Thinking back to what the doctor at the Gender Odyssey had said, I told me doctor "No, you see, I *really* am not going to give birth in my life. I am transgender and that is not something I would choose for myself." Terry Rice instantly began treating me very rudely and with derision. She said she would have to refer me elsewhere, and since we were discussing my endometriosis I thought she had referred me to a specialist. Instead, when I went to the appointment, I found out that she had non-consensually called a local womens health clinic and told them that I was looking to get a "sex change operation". She scheduled an appointment for me to a facility that didnt specialize in trans care, in order to get me a "sex change operation" even though that is not something I had *ever* mentioned to her. I just wanted treatment for my very painful medical condition which was harming my quality of life. My hysterectomy was completely unrelated to physical transition, if I had been a cis woman I would have asked the same thing. In subsequent appointments she told me that "you will have a hard time finding a doctor who will give you a hysterectomy for *those* reasons." For what reasons? You cant find a doctor who will give me a hysterectomy to treat my endometriosis? Really? It was so frustrating, but immediately upon hearing that I was trans she had decided that I was also a liar, and that my medical condition was made up. (Despite the fact that I had been diagnosed by a gynecological specialist already.) I switched to another doctor after that, and found out that in addition to endometriosis my sudden increase in pain was caused by an infection. Luckily, I got treatment, but they told me that if I hadnt it could have spread to my liver and killed me. Basically, this doctor risked my life by refusing to provide me with non-trans related medical care, all because she was discriminatory towards transgender people.

My husband was referred to this medical practice by his Dr. who recently retired. We went through normal procedures and were given a "new patient" appointment, with Dr. Quoc Phan August 30th, two months out. Towards the end of July my husband started experiencing physical symptoms that were concerning. I telephoned Olympia Family Medicine to see if there were any earlier appointments available and was told "NO" the first available appointment for "new patients" was August 30th. I asked the person on the other end of the phone what I should do. Her flippant reply was "take him to the ER if you feel its an emergency, if its not an emergency take him to a walk in clinic". Her tone of voice told me there was not point in asking for further assistance. Now, the real rub - the first part of August, we received a voicemail telling us the appointment scheduled for August 30th had been canceled - we would need to call and schedule another appointment. I telephoned the office asked for an explanation - reminding the person on the line - I had recently requested an earlier appointment for my husband. I was told "Oh theres a reason - Dr. is on vacation". An appointment was scheduled during his vacation? Worse yet vacations arent planned ahead of time? This was unacceptable, and I told her we would be finding another Dr., and what did I need to do to get my husbands medical records. She informed me she couldnt release the records because they did not belong to Olympia Family Medicine or the patient - they belonged to the previous Dr. Dr. Phan could be a wonderful Dr. but his office staff leaves much to be desired. If you have lots of time, dont mind rudeness or being talked down to, you might be ok choosing this practice. Ive managed to get my husbands medical records and will be finding another Dr. Hopefully, one who has a friendlier, compassionate and efficient staff.

I have been a patient with Olympia Family Medicine for over a decade. I remember the old office on Ensign Road, where I started with Dr. Boyd, who was a Senior Doctor, and now retired. I then had Dr. Winn, Terry Rice and recently Dr. Dolly Lent. All have been the most patient centered, professional Care Providers! Dr. Lent is so knowledgeable and accurate in her recommendations for my questions in continuing wellness and efforts to live a quality life. She reviews in detail, all lab work and combines modern medicine and holistic information, for my decision. I could not speak higher of her or all the front desk, nurses and lab techs connected with Family Medicine. I was prompted to write this after seeing a few negative reviews. I count myself lucky to work with this office, and after experience with Medical Doctors in our family, I know what to look for, and how to choose the Top of the Line Heath Care Facility, for me! All here are 5 Star in knowledge, caring, efforts, and positive attitudes!! Thank you, Jane Mohr

Usually I do not write reviews, but I have to put this out there. One of the desk ladies who answers the phone has been consistently rude. She has ZERO customer service, and is always very condescending when speaking to me. Im taking my family and business elsewhere. Now that Terri Rice is retired theres no longer a reason for me to put up with whoever this very cranky, rude receptionist is.

I really miss Doctor Boyd, and the move to Capital Medical Center was rough. During the transition phase, there was a new doctor every time I went in. Things have settled down and I like my new doctor. The BEST part is that the wait has gone from 30+ minutes down to 10 or less. Give them a shot. You might like it.
