I have two chihuahuas for which Ive used the same practice for years. Any time Ive taken my dogs in for something "out-of-the-blue", Ive left feeling that the issues were not addressed. Most recent, one of my chihuahuas was extremely ill. I took her to that other practice, they suggested constipation. I knew it couldnt have been, I felt hopeless. No offer to do lab work- nothing other than a quick look and an assumption. Several days later, my dog was progressively worse. I decided to research other vets and went to Silver Spring. During my initial call, Silver Spring assured me they would get to the bottom of it and squeezed me in for an emergency visit...little did I know, this phone call probably saved my dogs life. I saw Dr. Becky Moss, she spent a lot of time with us and gave my dog a chiropractic back massage (she loved it)! She thoroughly addressed possible concerns (slipped disc or neurological), gave my dog several medications, ran lab work, and together we established a game plan. I FINALLY felt that my dog was in good/concerned hands. She called to relay normal lab work so we planned to move forward with x-rays. The next evening, my dog lost complete mobility of her hind legs- I called Silver Spring, Dr. Becky was off for the day and the vet was almost closed. I received thorough call back from Dr. Pete, he stayed long after hours to speak with me. He explained several mobility tests over the phone, then concluded with a firm recommendation to take her to the neurologist at Lake Shore Emergency Hospital. Long story short, my dog does have a disc problem, along with an autoimmune form of meningitis. Dr. Becky and Dr. Pete have worked diligently behind scenes with the neurology dept. at Lake Shore, in addition to maintaining continuous contact with me to ask how my dog has been. Words cannot relay how "above and beyond" the entire staff at Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center has gone. Ive never experienced such genuine concern and effort- my concerns were listened to and acknowledged, Dr. Becky provided me all options and communicated them in a clear and concise way. Together, we formed a plan for her care. Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center cares for my dogs welfare as much as I do, and thats a level of care that money cannot buy. I will be with Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center for life, thank you for everything!

We took our dog here as her first vet right after we got her from the humane society last September. Everyone in the office is very nice and friendly, from the receptionist to the technician to the vet. There are lots of healthy treats around (freeze dried sweet potatoes, liver I think) and some freebies too. Always very timely, so we never had to waste any time waiting. On the first visit, the vet explained what vaccines she was getting (rabies and bordatella). There was also the distemper shot, which he explained we could get with the leptospirosis included or not. He told us what it was and who might need it, and that it was totally up to us if we wanted it. He also told us we wouldnt do it in that visit, since in the case of a reaction to a shot, it would be easier to trace it back if you werent administered numerous shots at once. We really appreciated that as believers in making the process as easy on the body and immune system as possible. We came back another day to get the distemper vaccine, and chose not to get lepto. We also had to go back another time for an "emergency" visit, when she had something in her eye and needed some drops. Probably could have gotten by with trying to flush it out with saline water at home, but we were still new owners and of course worried. We just switched over to a new vet after moving from the lower east side to Bay View, and it has made us realize how great Silver Spring was! The new vet administered rabies, bordatella, and distemper including lepto very quickly before my husband had a chance to understand what was going on. She told him after the fact that she had given the lepto version of distemper because she noticed we hadnt gotten it last year. Still in the process of complaining about that, but they have denied doing what we said happened. It has really made us appreciate our last vet who took the time to explain everything to us and never made us feel pressured or rushed. We might have to start making the extra drive back up there.

I have been taking my pets to Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center for 12 years. At this time last year, I had three senior dogs and a senior cat. Two of my much-loved dogs, a Pug and a Lab, died over the course of 11 months. Each had cancer. Of course, this has been devastating. But I know that the doctors and staff had always helped me give both of my dogs the best lives possible, so I take comfort in that. With four older pets, you do a lot of doctoring, even for routine issues. I have always had complete confidence in the doctors. They have offered highly skilled medical care to each of my animals and taught me so much over the years. The staff techs and assistants are fully committed to animal wellness and they are each so kind and helpful.

From the moment we walked in the door, I knew this place was different. It is evident that all of the staff members love what they do, and they are good at it! It does not at all feel like a vet clinic, more like home. Ive seen each of the vets, and they are all excellent! They listen to me, give advice, and genuinely care about my dog and two cats. Instead of over-vaccinating my dog, they do titers to see if she is still immune. It is more expensive than the vaccine, but if she needs the vaccine, they give it to her for free. My cat had acupuncture for an upper respiratory infection, and he practically fell asleep! He was significantly better the next day. So, despite the distance to get there, it is well worth it!

We met our first vet here three years ago with our dog who is now 11. We chose it because they were specializing in holistic health we thought she might need as we had to have both her hips removed as a pup and they didnt make titanium hips for a medium-sized dog back then so she had to grow her own from cartilage. She moves around fine. She passed her 10-year old dog blood panel with flying colors and Im glad to have Silver Spring nearby. Everyone is professional and pleasant and they check up on her from time to time. One thing can be said, no matter where we are, I choose great vets.

The staff and doctors are very helpful and kind. They always follow up the next day if your animals are having problems to make sure that things are going well. I have called many times with questions about my pets and they have always taken the time to answer them (and not just with "you need to make an appointment"). The Animal Wellness Center will look for holistic approaches to treat your animals and wont just give you prescription after prescription. Obviously, prescriptions are given if they are needed. Overall, the place is fantastic and I recommend it to everyone.
