We rescued a beautiful English Bulldog in May. She was estimated at 3, and obviously medically neglected. It was 3 years after the death of our 11+ year old bulldog died unexpectedly. It was by chance we met this girl and she needed a good home and we needed the joy she brought us. We chose to bring her to Hamptonburgh, instead of a large animal hospital, solely because the one thing we wished our previous dog had was a relationship with his doctor, and not to be seen by a new stranger ever time we went to the Vet...which is frequent with high risk breeds. Vera needed to be spayed, AND she had cherry eye. We first brought her to be spayed, she had a slow recovery from the anesthesia over night. When we brought her for a well visit with Dr. Ajay Madaan to discuss the cherry eye, and her diet and her skin among other issues common with this breed, He had convinced us that our concerns regarding putting her under anesthesia were not necessary, because this surgery was "a piece of cake" and their process for pulling bulldog off of anesthesia assures that there are no issues. We dropped her off for the surgery and picked her up later that night. Only to be be confronted by the Dr. Ajay Madaan for what he said was we did not follow the instructions not to feed her or she got into something this morning. (we knew that our dog had not been out of our hands once up until being handed off to them). He told us that she vomited a full stomach of food after being extubated and needed to be reintubated to prevent aspiration pneumonia. He then prescribed very expensive antibiotics that she would have to start once she could eat "in order to prevent Pneumonia". We had a list of questions with us about her post op care, which included, "we know that she struggled with recovery after the spay, and now youre telling us she had a complication, what should we be looking for overnight? What point should we be calling you?" He replied "You wont need to call us, shes fine now from that, we just need to give her antibiotics for 10 days so she doesnt get pneumonia, but if you need to call, call our hospital line it goes right to Dr. Tuthill"....so...all night long we listend to our bulldog breath short breathes, the breathing suddenly changed, and then we noticed her go almost limp. We didnt take the time to call Dr. Tuthill, We rushed her to the emergency animal hospital 2 miles from our house (the one we should have went to in the first place). The light of our lives, who we were trying to do our best for, was already dead. We called Hamptonburgh animal hospital when we came home, the office hadnt opened yet. Yep..got Tuthills voice mail. We called again after the office opened, only to tell a receptionist, that our dog didnt make it through the night and we thought the doctors would want to know since they operated on her the day before. --- and the personalized care that we had hoped for, bought us a dead dog, a broken heart, least of all a lighter pocket, and not so much as "Im sorry for your loss". We never ever should have brought our high risk breed to a veterinarian who wasnt a "real" hospital for surgery. They however, knew better and should have reminded us with all their "years of experience" that we should bring our high risk breed to a full hospital that was able to handle "What if", after a "piece of cake". Shes dead now, best I can tell...they dont care.

We have a dog that has been having seizures since before she was a year old and now is 3 and we were their just recently for both of our dogs yearly shots and he said he was going to take some blood tests to check her meds levels and when we it came time to pay our bill it was over $700! Well of course we werent expecting that, weve had blood work done before, and when I asked if I could break up the payments into thirds the receptionist had to ask the Dr and came back to tell me they dont do payments at this time. Well needless to say we were shocked and I told her to tell him I was extremely disappointed and that we ALWAYS have paid our bills in full every time, so she went back to try and see if he would reconsider and was told why dont we take out the credit care card that he would not do it and then preceded to tell me that I cant apply for it there though! So what in the h$&l are we supposed to do know? Oh well you can take off all the blood work. Well thats what we had to do. So my question is if your sooo sweet to my animal and oh poor baby in front of my face and you care so much for the animals why did you make me have to give up the blood work? I have to say its all about the almighty $$$$! Hey I get they need to make money but what about taking into consideration who your clients are, check their payment record and then base it on that! I promise you we will never go to him again! Dr J you should be ashamed of yourself.

Worse than poor. They are not proactive in searching for the cause of your pets illness. When they take your pet to the back for treatments, they will not let you see your pet claiming its a matter of liability". You have to take their word that they are in an adequate space and that they are giving the treatments they say they are giving. Other vets we talked to say this issue of liability does not exist. The vets notes were poor, and difficult to follow. We discovered this when we took our dog to other vets because the care she received at Hamptonbourgh was totally inadequate. New administration lowered prices, but they keep your coming back, for multiple visits. In the end, it ends up costing more and, most importantly, in can cost your pet his/her live. They were condescending to us, trying to put the blame on us for not acting on our pets condition sooner, when in fact we brought her 3 weeks earlier and the vet said that she looked fine. When we came back as her condition deteriorated, he said, "this has been going for some time" blaming us for not acting sooner. You want to kill your pet and lose money, visit Hamptonurgh Animal Hospital in Campbell Hall, NY. Our doggie lost her life because of their neglence and apathy; dont let this happen to your pet.

I would never go anywhere else with my pups (3 yorkies). Yes, you have to sit and wait....you wait because they are so good and everyone wants their pet to be seem by them. They are Cornell Grads and take their work very seriously. They also do not rush you when they are examing your animal. Brooke (the review from 2006) obviously does not have a great tolerance level or great understanding. The staff can get very harried....the phones ring off the wall, and they are constantly busy, but they are also very dedicated and concerned. Dr. Murphy never gives up with a sick pet....never..... So when it is time, you know you are doing the right thing and have gotten the right care for your best friend. I have been going to them for almost 20 years and am a stickler about my own doctors and my pets....I really research them. If you go to them, give yourself time to wait, but know you are getting the best care that you can get. Barbara
