I havent been here yet but am nervous to go (hence the stars or I wouldnt be able to post), if its anything like the one in Niagara Falls, Ontario/ Thorold, Id be extremely disappointed and will have lost faith in those that chose to study veterinary sciences for animals sake. Not only has my experience with emergency vets been that they tend not to care but they are truly gaining way too much money from people with pets in critical situations that have no other alternatives. Emergency fees should not start at such outrageous prices. The whole point of it being an emergency is that care needs to be had right away and often people dont have $1000 or $500 plus on hand for these emergencies so already if an animals situation is serious, the dilemma is... do I let it go and hope for the best risking my dogs life (something youd never do with a child) or do I put myself in a position of being in negative income for the month. My dog has been sick for 5 days and we are holding bringing him in to emergency as we cant afford to have our budget sliced by the crazy fee it might cost us. Plus the last time I brought him to an emergency vet in Thorold, Ontario they were so rude and rough with him and were forcing him to sit and yelling at him, that I actually had to step in and ask them not to treat my dog so poorly as he already suffers from anxiety- the doctor didnt even look at him, the technicians did and then the doctor asked me all sorts of questions as what it could be, when I narrowed it down and asked for a specific test, they didnt do it. An hour later, the doctor offered to do the test. At this point I had been there almost 2.5 hours and I just wanted to get out as nothing was getting resolved and they were mishandling my dog. I cancelled any kind of inquiries, ran to reception and paid the $300 they wanted for the "emergency visit" in which I didnt even get any treatments nor bloodwork, not even sample medication. That was just to look at him. Worse than a lawyers fees. My dog ran out of that room. If I had stayed My bill was going to come to over $500 plus other tests and other costs they wanted to run. Emergency Vets rarely take the time to listen to their clients and look at the animal. They see $ signs. In the end, I took him home and cared for him myself homeopathically and he made his way back to health. As far as Im concerned, every visit to the vet, with the prices they charge should include blood work. I am so weary to try this place out from my last experience but if it comes down to it, Ill have no choice as Im not taking him to the Niagara one ever again. I dont recommend anyone in the Niagara Region ever going to the Niagara Emergency vet clinic.

Do yourself and your animal a favor and find another animal hopsital! Not only did we wait to be seen for almost an hour and a half when we were 1 or 2 people in there, they completely tried to take advantage of us. We brought her in because her eyes were completely glossed over and she was lethargic. The doctor had us under the impression that our cat was extremely sick and might have an infectious disease, which she has been vaccinated for. She looked at her eye and numbed it so she wouldnt be in pain and so she could examine it better. Sure enough she came back and said she would have to do more test to know for sure. She told us she was in pain when she touched her belly and gave us an estimate of what it would cost for x-rays and blood work, which was close to $1000. All this while holding her in the back and not letting us see her. We decided to take our chances and take her home and monitor her throughout the night and bring her to our vet in the morning, if need be. Wouldnt you know it they brought her out to us after we asked for her back 4 times and waited over an hour for someone to bring her to us and she was trying to play. She was alert and ready to play. I touched her stomach where the doctor said was extremely sensitive and she had no sign of flinching in pain. After we decided to take her home the vet never once stepped foot in our room again and sent the tech in to tell us what we needed to know. Nice to know we were just a money pit until we smartened up and left before paying almost $1000 unnecessarily. As soon as our cat walked in the door to our home she staryed playing and purring for us. That doesnt sound like a cat dying from an infectious disease to us.

This place is horrible. My daughters kitten had liver failure, and this is where my vets voice mail recommended for emergency care. When we walked in the ogre they have working the front desk was dismissive, carried our cat as if he were some sort of burden she didnt want near her. Once we were seen, it seemed like it was a huge inconvenience for the staff to try to save his life. Cost: Just to walk through the door is $45.00 The exam is $52.00 CBC blood work $78.00 Feline Leukemia check $77.00 etc, etc, etc... And thats just the tip of the iceberg. Since after spending over $300.00 and being told they dont know whats wrong with him or if they think they could save him, the ogre at the front desk 1) decided that while my daughter was sobbing holding her dying cat that it was a good idea to refuse further treatment because shes "never seen a veterinary clinic that takes American Express" and that it wasnt her issue that they didnt. How an "emergency" clinic is not able to take all forms of payment baffles me. Then 2) she charged us for Disposition/Handling of his corpse when I have an outside crematorium picking up his remains. She was told to not charge for this, and had it explained to her by other staff. I guess she listens to her coworkers as well as she shows empathy to their clients. She also 3) is refusing to release his body till the insane amount they charged to not save my cat is paid in full. Unless this place finds new staff, I highly recommend going anywhere else. They are unfriendly, rude, and had no empathy to my pet or my family.

Absolutely horrible. Do yourself and your pet a huge favor, and drive the extra to get to Orchard Park. Such a shame this hospital was just built and they cannot even properly staff or run it. They actually tell you they are not "properly staffed" to watch your pet, even in a critical situation. There are 4 employees on at a time. One is usually cleaning. There is never a supervisor on duty- ever. You need to write a letter and wait for the once a month Board Meeting, and then call to see if your concerns were addressed. If you happen to have a pet die in their care, the lack of compassion says not a single staff member should be in this profession. The staff members are lazy and regularly fight, loud enough so it can be heard by others. Euthanasia is a common recommendation here, rather than stabilizing a pet so it can be seen by a qualified Veterinarian the following day. This place is like a Banfield- the vets are bottom of the barrel, far from creme of the crop. I took many of my own dogs here as well as fosters and refuse to go here again. Orchard Park is 24 hour. They have a regular vet on off hours as well as a vet for critical cases- which this vet hospital can NOT handle. Orchard Park is 24 hour and fully staffed. Take the extra drive, for your pets sake. Even if you do happen to go here, I bet the guy at the counter playing solitaire on the computer when you walk in with the abrasive attitude will make you think twice. I am absolutely amazed this place has not shut down yet.
