"I had major surgery here in early 2011. The surgery went well & I liked my doctor but everything post surgery was horrible! I was told I would be admitted to Tower 5 Surgical but I ended up in the maternity ward (please note, I DID NOT HAVE A BABY) I was nauseous, vomiting & retching for over 18 hours & none of the nurses seemed to care. I was told I could have anti-nausea medication in my IV. I asked for it but the nurse forgot to give them to me. She told me this after I continued to vomit for hours & I asked her why the medication wasnt working. The nurses also didnt hook up & turn on the anti-embolism devices that were on my calves until I had been in my room over 5 hours. The following morning the aid nearly ripped my IV out of my arm while I was trying to get out of bed for the first time & she got angry with me when I told her I could not sit in the chair & I just wanted to go back to bed because I was in too much pain because of all the stitches I had. The last straw was when an aid brought me ice water in a cup with a lid & she proceeded to punch a hole in the top of it with a pen she pulled out of her pocket!! With all one hears about hospital born infections, I was mortified. After waiting 55 minutes for my pain medication that I had asked for 3 times, I reached my breaking point. My husband arrived & we walked out with the patient advocate following us, her waving her business card at us. Five nurses were sitting at the nurses station when we walked past & no one offered me any help or a wheelchair. My husband drove me to my doctors office who told me I could go home. My husband got my pain medication filled at the Walmart pharmacy in less than 10 minutes. I pray I never have to set foot in this hospital again."

I arrived there by ambulance as a trauma patient in the middle of the day, Upon arrival, the staff seemed very unprepared and unprofessional. They were running around like chickens with there heads cut off. No one knew what to do and what room to put me in. I told them in many occasions,if you cant handle me then transfer me to another hospital who can. There patient care was the worst I have ever encountered in the industry. They were very disorganized and very uncaring of my pain level and how much pain they were causing me in there diagnosis upon arrival. They were also rude and not very friendly. Then they stuck me in a trauma room alone for almost 2 hours with no phone,tv remote,CALL BELL,or food or water and just forgot about me. I had to use my personal cell phone to call the hospital and there nursing desk to remind them that I was still here and forgotten about. Mind you I had an iv and a back injury so I couldnt even move it get up. Finally after approx. 5 or 6 hours after being told I was being admitted they found me a room. Thats very bad patient care. Then once I got upstairs on to a floor and got a room things got a little better. There were some decent nurses willing to help and do there job but then you had your usual ones who hide from work, and dont care. I dont feel that vitals should be taken over 4 hours after a shift starts and never the nurse came to see me and ask if my pain is alright. Thats poor patient care. The hospital is nice and clean inside. Way to understaffed, patient care sucks.Food ok at best. And I shouldnt have to wait an hour for a wheel chair to wheel me out the facilty. All and all the WORST hospital experience I have ever had. I will never ever go there again. Thank you, Maverick

I too had a horrible experience with this place in 2012. My mother, who is who had a traumatic brain injury after surgery from her second stroke in 2008, was in a nursing home, and she was taken off of oxy 30 and put on something like methadone to deal with the withdrawls. She had an allergic reaction to the meds and was withdrawling bad off the oxy. She was brought to the hospital because she could not control her limbs and was shaking, kicking, and doing things out of her control. The hospital refused to admit her. They sent her back to the nursing home claiming she was just withdrawling, and the side effects would go away if she discontinued use of the drug. So instead of transferring her to a facility that could help her (because they also claimed they were not designed to deal with drug withdrawls, they sent her to the nursing home. The nursing home in turn sent her to Good Sam, because they too could not deal with the symptoms. She ended out having a stroke within 2days at good sam for these symptoms. She had another stroke a month after this too. Their lack of concern for her care was straightforward. They told me because she was on medicaid they were afraid of getting paid if the admitted her without a medical cause..... Yeah.... All they are worried about is their bills. I recently ran into someone who works there and I was also told that under obama care they are only allowed to write a certain amount of scripts a day, so people are not getting the treatment they need and deserve because they dont want to exceed their quota. I will never go to this facility unless it is out of my control.

I dont Hate this place per say But....as already mentioned Id like to also state how unfriendly the staff can be and could use a bedside manner refresh class/course. I delivered my daughter there and was treated as if I walked into their personal home and seemed to be an annoyance. We had baby plan set yet nobody seemed to care for our wishes and had to state a few times what we wanted and what they will or will not do. Some nurses etc were kind but the overall atmosphere was nothing I had imagined. Not soothing or peaceful as it was 10 almost 11 years ago with the old hospital. I originally wanted an at home birth and after the experience there if I am ever again blessed to have another I will not return there. Other experiences also where in emergency situation they yelled at me for not choosing something asap and screamed youre gonna die. Like wow, I need to know info before making such urgent decisions which after hours of crying I fell asleep and was waken up by a calm kind dr. Who I then spoke with and then chose but to be yelled at while already in an emotional urgent situation does not help. Like dr Im gonna die either way thanks for yelling it to me!!! I get the seriousness the dr tried to express but to yell that. Come on. They need improvement as its becoming less personal and more corporate and business like. Hope they see this and have a bed side manner course for others so they can have a better experience than some of us others have had.

I sincerely want to give ORMC L&D and postpartum more stars because other than the horrific experience during delivery, my daughter-in-law, son and new grandson received great care. However, we had such a horrifying experience with Dr. Lynee Dicostanzo from Montgomery that what should have been a magical memory turned into a scene you would only see in a really bad reality series. The L&D nurse that stayed with us the entire night and through this terrible experience (amazing) actually reported the incident to management. Management promised to follow up with us. First promising to speak to us when we were all together, then when that did not happen, they promised to send in an advocate. It wasnt until WE asked for follow up were we given the opportunity to speak with a supervisor (we were told there no advocates available on the weekend). She ;listened, seemed to be concerned about what she heard and then also promised to have someone follow up with us on Monday. That never happened either. My daughter in law had to place a call herself and left a voice mail. Im not sure if they assumed that as time passed and we would "forget" about the incident. That is just not going to happen. I will give them one more opportunity to follow up and if not, I will report this incident to whomever will listen. Including, TJC, DOH, CMS. I can not, in good conscience, allow this to happen to any one else.
