Sadly, our dog passed away while under the care of this place. He went in for some dog bites that Dr. Hicks informed us were nothing to be worried about, but she was going to keep him overnight to raise his temp so she can clean the wounds better the next day under anesthesia. We never got to say goodbye to our dog before we left that night, and was told when we first got there to just "put him on the floor". Didnt seem very compassionate, but I felt I could trust the care of a professional. The next morning I got the call that my dog did not make it, and that Dr. Hicks leisurely came in at 8 am (the office opens at 7) and my dog had passed away under the care of vet techs earlier that morning. First of all, why wouldnt they call me when they knew his condition was "deteriorating" as she put it? We would have at least gotten to say goodbye. And the care he received overnight was some more pain meds at 6 pm before they left for the night (I had already informed Dr. Hicks that he was given some pain meds that say only give in 12 hour increments, which she didnt even seem like it was important enough to chart what I had given...possible overdose? Also, when we went in to pick him up, no one at the front desk knew who he was, and asked "well did he have an appt?" And when we told her he had passed, we got a cold reply of, "oh, well I wasnt here yesterday." So many what-ifs, but all we can do now is inform others so that they can be aware of this and hopefully not go through the same heartbreak.

I took my geriatric fur baby to Vetcare of Calera today. My husband and I have not lived in Calera very long and we really didnt care for the vet clinic we chose when we first moved here. So, after staying up half of the night worrying that something was terribly wrong with my oldest dog, I contacted Vetcare for the first time and asked if they could fit my sweet Ricky in today. They allowed me to bring him in even though they were booked all day. The vet tech, Kayla, had such a warm and friendly personality that we knew we came to the right place. I have never met a more friendly vet tech. You can tell that she sincerely loves people, animals and her job. Dr. Hicks was awesome, as well. Her diagnosis was much better than what I had feared and I could tell that she was very competent in her job. The cost of the visit, blood tests and meds were extremely reasonable, but the most important thing was how I was treated and how my sweet Ricky was treated. We have many fur babies in our family and now, I can feel at ease knowing that I have finally found a vet clinic and staff who I can trust and who truly care about the wellbeing of my babies.

Professional, Compassionate, Accommodating, and Reasonably Priced. Nothing more difficult than having to put down a beloved cat of 20 years. I was shocked at what the big box store vet wanted, significantly higher than what I considered appropriate. It was more like an opportunity to capitalize on ones grief. Completely different scenario and attitude at Vet Care of Calera. Dr. Keri Hicks and staff gave us the best service I have ever received at a veterinarian. My family is grateful, and Calera, AL is fortunate to have this new business in town.

Use at your own risk. Completely unprofessional. Left my dog under their care and he passed away. Dr. Keri Hicks didnt even feel the need to come in when her tech informed her that his health was starting to deteriorate. She leisurely showed up when they opened for normal exams. No compassion. Went there to pick up our dog and no one even knew who he was. Had to clarify that he was the one who passed away. Completely unorganized and unprofessional. Be informed and use them at your own risk.

I take all of my animals here. Two cats and two dogs. Dr Hicks is great and has even been willing to examine my exotics when Im unable to make the trip to Birmingham (I brought her a frog fecal to test for common parasites). I have never had a negative experience. Reasonably priced and great service.

Love this place and the employees. We recently lost our dog due to cancer and they were extremely helpful, understanding and crying right along with us as they lost her too. Then afterwards they sent us a signed card expressing our condolences. Would highly recommend this great vet and staff

Some people are lawyers, doctors, clerks, drivers, salesmen, but we all have the same job: to minister to human hearts. Dr. Hicks understands and this is her mission, not profession. She not only cares for our four legged family members she also supports and cares about the "parents".
