Southwestern is a very big operation with many locations in AZ and NM and even their own corporate jet. They are fine for simple eye exams, diagnosing common eye problems and even simple cataract surgeries. For more complicated problems like glaucoma, retina problems or multiple eye problems, Ive found their staff is spread too thinly across too many patients, so I decided to use a more specialized practice dedicated to advanced/complicated cases. Southwest does take advanced, complicated cases, but they have so many patients that my special needs got lost in the crowd and the 5 minutes they allowed me to spend with the doctor (vs the 10 minutes with the entry level person that does the first level exam who always told me that I needed to ask the doctor about the questions I had, and an hour total of waiting while there) - 5 minutes with the doctor wasnt nearly enough and he always would be literally walking out the door as I was still asking questions...which often didnt get answered. Ive had a few surgeries at Southwest and consistently they didnt tell me what kind of surgery I would be getting, what would happen during the surgery, and what I should expect after the surgery...unless I specifically ask - again as the doctor is walking out on me and may or may not give me an answer. I got most of my info by Googling it after my visits, which of course didnt allow me to discuss options with the doctor before surgery was set up so he pretty much locked me into a course of action with zero input from me. I cant recommend Southwest for anything more than routine eye care unless you dont mind undergoing surgery ON YOUR EYES with almost no information.

I made an early morning appointment purposely because I had other things to do. It was 45 minutes before I got called, then their usual tests at which point she mentioned drops in my eyes. I told her I had called the day before to inquire whether I would need drops and was told no, so my husband did not accompany me. She asked someone about it and assured me it would be fine without them. After settling me in an exam room, she said the Dr. told her the drops were required. I again reiterated I did not bring someone to drive me home. The drops were put in and I sat and cooled my heels for another 45 minutes, finally looking at my watch and realizing I had been there for almost 2 hours and still no doctor. Enough was enough - I left. Southwest did eventually call to ask if I would come back that day to finish the exam. No apologies. My time is as important as theirs and they seemed quite unconcerned about how they treat their patients in that regard. I am not questioning the skill of their doctors, but just like the airlines, you feel youre in a big cattle car.I will not be back.

The reason I only gave 3 stars is this: I work the graveyard shift. I sleep from 2-7 even day you. My appointment with Southwestern eye clinic was at 4:20 in the afternoon. When I showed up for my appointment I was informed that I could have come much earlier because they had a lot of cancellations. Now I know that they dont know what hours I work. But common sense tell me that I in the event of cancellations I would call the rest of the days appointments and see if they might want to come in for an earlier appointment. 2 stars for your lack of initiative or follow through or whatever you want to call it.

I visited Dr. Lewis office for the first time yesterday. The waiting areas are comfortable and quiet. The staff are very friendly and always have a smile to share. They also have a good grasp of explaining medical terms in a way I understood. When I left, I had a clear picture of my situation. I found that many of the other patients had been coming to Dr. Lewis for many, many years. Dr Lewis has a pleasant personality. The billing department/check out desk staff answer any questions about fees associated with insurance or out of pocket expenses, so no surprises later. I enjoyed my visit.

The Southwestern Eye has a professional, courteous staff that made me comfortable and welcome. They took care of filling out all the paperwork ahead of time which was very convenient. If you are having an issue with your sight, this made things so much easier. Southwestern Eye was very thorough. They did so much right on site to thoroughly check every aspect of your vision. The group worked so well together and were technically proficient in taking care of me. I would recommend Southwestern Eye to anyone who needs an ophthalmologist. They were awesome in taking care of me on my visit.

I have been going to southwestern eye center for over 14 years and this time I was very disappointed- I took off work to do a follow up appt - my appt was at 3:50- they got me back to check my vision - then waited for the doc- well 5:30 comes rolling around & havent been called back to the doc yet - I had to leave as I had another appt to get to - they said it will be put down as a no show - well I showed but the doctor not so much - they asked if I wanted to reschedule - I said no - I cant take anymore time off to just sit here -so this time I was very disappointed-

I was very impressed by all aspects of my visit starting from my initial phone call , to my examination and ending with a comprehensive follow-up. I was especially pleased with the exam itself including the preliminary testing and the final examination by Dr. Owens who was both very friendly and professional. My visit was of a somewhat immediate nature and I appreciated the fact that my appointment was scheduled on the morning of my call. Southwestern Eye Clinic should be commended on the high level of service that they provide for their patients. Well done!

First visit doctor suggested an expensive multifocal lens procedure and rushed me through. Other employees were pleasant. Place (Tempe) seems a bit like a human assembly line. Day after tomorrow I go to the place on Stapley so I hope they explain things better there. I have read information on-line to educate myself on these lens but would think a doctor would talk to me about this. I will update my review after my next visit.

I dont leave a lot of reviews but I decided tobfor this office . Its the first doctor visit Ive been to since Ive moved to Phoenix that seems to actually care. I wasnt rushed or treated like they were just trying to get to the next client. I was getting tested for lasik so the procedure took some time and lots of test but the staff did not try to hurry the process. O would definitely recommend them to anyone.
