I am a believer in prevention versus treatment. It’s the right thing to do- cheaper and obviously less painful. What I disliked about this office is that for 2-3 years in a row, I went in for the annual checkup. Every time, I discussed with the doctor and specifically requested a comprehensive examination (detail blood work). Dr. Nelson advised each time that cholesterol screening is not necessary before the age of 40. I think that is an irresponsible and a detrimental approach. I am lucky to work for a company that shares my values regarding health care and they provide a free annual checkup at work. It is a day and night difference. The company schedules the blood drawing appointment prior to meeting the nurse and going over the results (as all dr. offices should do). I received a 2 page detailed list with all the results where there are clearly provided the results as well as normal ranges for the results. Glucose, cholesterol, white and red blood cell count, protein, calcium and much more were tested. I was encouraged to know ‘my numbers’. Desert Ridge Family Physicians proceed exactly backwards. They set up the appointment with the doctor first (to discuss what, since there are no blood results?), and they draw blood during the visit and then you get a machine call back few days later that states ‘everything came in normal’. Why there are no details about the actual results, I never understood. Is there an assumption that all patients are ignorant and should not be informed about actual results? Is there a lack of willingness to take the time and educate patients? I am not sure, but I am looking for another doctor that shares my values.

We are taking our familys health elsewhere. They do a great job making you feel warm and cozy while signing up with them. It is all downhill from there. The last two times I had an issue pop-up, they were not able to help. The first issue, I simply asked for a referral to a specialist, so their referral was the ER. I went there, and the ER lady actually laughed at the idea that I was told to come see them for a referral to a specialist. They happily checked me in, had a nurse examine me for 8 - 10 minutes and had a doctor spend 3 - 5 minutes, confirming the information the nurse gave him, before he handed a list of three specialists to call. The 15 minutes of care in the ER cost my family more than $1,800. Today, I asked them to simply call my pharmacy to refill a prescription. They denied the request without a visit. They are corporate medicine, not family medicine. More proof... I just called them to let them know I am planning on going to another practice and asked with whom I should have my new practice contact for the medical records. They didnt even inquire as to why I am taking my family elsewhere. No care, whatsoever. If you take your family to this practice, you are just a few more cattle in their herd... Actually, that is not true, for a rancher cares a great deal more about some of his cattle leaving the herd than these people do about their patients leaving their practice.

The doctors here are very professional, very helpful and easily reach via the email system that this office has implimented. The nursing staff is very nice and always polite when I go in. Dr. Nelson is a wonderful physician and has excellent bed side manor. It is ALWAYS easy to get refills on medications or answers to simple medical questions without always having to go into the office. I personally have had more 1 on 1 contact with my doctor and her medical assistant through emails and phone calls, which has saved me a substantial amount of money on copays. The only downside to this office is that they only schedule appointments for same day or next day so if you are someone who likes to pre-book you have to change your ways. They schedule this way so that when you have to get in right away (sick or urgent matters) they always have room to get you in same day, which most offices dont do. All in all I would recommend this practice to anyone who wants above par medical treatment. Being a woman especially it is nice that you can have all around care and not always have to see a specialist, also, being an expecting mother, knowing that my physician will see my infant as well is great. This is a great practice!

WORST MEDICAL CARE IVE EVER RECEIVED! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY MAKING AN APPOINTMENT. I have great medical insurance, and decided to try out Desert Ridge Family Physicians because the office is close by. BAD MISTAKE! I should have listened to the few bad reviews on here. As a new patient, I was treated so disrespectfully. I have been diagnosed with a chronic illness by many specialists, and Dr. Edwards literally laughed in my face and said "I dont do chronic illnesses". I have been on medication for my illness, and Dr. Edwards refused to refill my prescriptions and said I would need to see a "pain managemenet" doctor. I know this is false, because my family doctor is the one that has managed my case for many years now. Its sad that I just moved to this area and decided to give this office a try and was completely disregarded as a human. I only left the office with two hours less of my life and $25 poorer. Thanks for wasting mine and my insurances time Desert Ridge Family Physicians! Ill make sure to tell everyone what a joke your entire staff is.

If you appreciate quality healthcare then stay away from this place! From the receptionists to the MAs to the physicians, they are all bad news. Dont just take my word for it, check out all the other reviews that say the same thing. -I have been a patient of Dr. LeMaster for over 5 years. The final straw was when we were discussing my ongoing chronic back pain (like we do at every appointment) and I asked if she could give me prescription to help alleviate the pain that I am in day and night. She treated me as though I was an addict and unsympathetically refused to give me anything. As a healthcare professional myself, I know when I am being treated unfairly by my physician. Do yourself a favor and bypass this practice. -To Dan or anyone else in that office reading this - Absolutely do not call me and try to convince me to change my review like youve tried to coax my daughter into changing hers. Thats unethical business practice.

Ive been a patient for a few years now and I love Dr. Piccione. She instantly won me over with her fun personality and attention to details. However, this last year I never can make an appointment to see her because she is always booked. They always push me off to another doctor. Whats the point of having a family practitioner if you never see them? I feel this practice is becoming more like urgent care. You see who is available and you lose that relationship with one doctor. Im disappointed that I may have to search for a new doctor because I was very happy with my doctor . I even talked my sister and sister-in-laws to change their doctor to Dr. Piccione. But now that I never can see her...I feel its time I start searching for a new doctor.
