I am not one to complain but when it comes to something serious like my pets life, Im going to say something. This week I brought in my little Yorkie, Lola, and it was by far one of the worst experiences of my life. I brought her in because she wasnt feeling like herself. She was sluggish, barely eating and looked like she was in pain. I trusted my gut instict and decided to take her to the vet to get a proper diagnosis and I came here because it was the closest to my house. From the moment I walked in, the receptionists werent warm or friendly at all. They started to examine her to see what could be the problem and she had a fever of 105. The vet tech said it wasnt normal at all and took her to the back to try to cool her down and I started to freak out. Then the doctor comes in and tells me that she might have an infected uterus and walks out. Meanwhile Im freaking out even more and then they come back with an estimate of about $400 to do some x-rays & other tests to determine that it was in fact a pyometra (infection in uterus). I dont have $400 just laying around so I said that I would need to talk it over with my mother because technically shes the owner so I went home. I voiced my concerns to my best friend who is a vet tech as well and she agreed to help me out with the payment so I went back so she could get those exams and we could figure out our next step. Long story short, with all the tests, it was determined that it was a pyometra and the doctor was completely insensitive and had terrible bedside manner when it came to letting me know the results. In fact, it literally took him about 5 seconds to tell me and then he walked out. Then they slapped me with a $1,500 estimate for her surgery and they dont accept payment plans. They made me feel like I did this to her and it was my fault. I was a big crying mess and no one showed one ounce of compassion. Thankfully I found a WONDERFUL hospital that was able to help Lola and I. She had her surgery and she is on the road to recovery and doing great! Also, when we switched over to the other hospital, we were trying to get all of Lolas records so that they could see the results and what exactly was done and they NEVER sent over the records. A few of their doctors & vet techs called Ironwood before the surgery and during and nothing. And I am STILL trying to get her records to send them over myself. If I could give 0 stars to this place I would.

Horrible experience and unprofessional staff. We came in with our cat who had been hit by a car. We brought her in and it took about 45 minutes just for a technician to come take a look at her. We explained it is likely her back or legs because she cannot walk and is dragging her legs behind her. Another 45 minutes or more passed before we saw Dr. Huitt. When Dr. Huitt came in he immediate grabbed our cat by the neck and dragged her across the table. I had to stop him and explain again what was wrong with the cat. Another hour passes and she gets taken for X-rays (finally). After another 45 minute wait Dr. Huitt comes back saying it is a femur fracture that requires surgery estimated at $2,700. Dr. Huitt says we can drop her back off in the morning or leave her there overnight but of course it would cost more. We tried asking more questions about when her surgery would be (for feeding purposes), when we could pick her up, what to expect etc. He was very rude and closed down and kept sending his tech in to answer the questions. He then insisted blood be taken that night because the next day was his day off and he did not want to come in to do the surgery if the blood work came back bad. Him and his nurse were extremely pushy and the way he handled the cat already and making a big deal about coming in on his day off was off-putting and made me uncomfortable to place our cats well being in his hands. We decided to leave, asked for a copy of the x-rays to take to another doctor, and was told we would get a call Monday (Dr. Huitts next day in) so we could bring the cat in for surgery. First, it took over an hour to receive the x-rays making it impossible for us to go to another vet. Then it took over a week to call us back just to say that Dr. Huitt is not available for surgery until mid January. They were willing to let a cat with a shattered leg to be in pain for a month before operating. Its disgusting. Unless it is on their time they dont care what happens to your pet. Avoid this place at all costs.

Today was my first time taking my kitty Missie to the vet in... quite some time. The receptionist (forgive me, as I did not remember everyones name), was very friendly and helpful. Being an indoor cat, Missie tends to get scared in different places, and I feel everyone was very nice to her, ensuring that she had nothing to be afraid of. The second girl I spoke to, I guess she was like a nurse, was able to answer a few small questions I had about Missies every day behavior. She also provided me with an estimate of how much the dental process could cost, should I decide to do that for my kitty. She assured me they would give me a call to follow up on how shes doing. Finally, Dr. Pederson was a great veterinarian. She provided me with very helpful information, and was able to get my cats vaccinations and other needed things taken care of, and was surprisingly quick! She recommended I slowly switch kittys food to help her lose weight, but didnt make me feel bad about her being slightly over-weight. She was compassionate with Missie, and showed obvious love her her job, and animals in general. In fact, I could tell that all of the employees there had a genuine love for animals. One of the girls even mentioned she had I think four dogs, two cats, and a rabbit! Overall, I felt very secure and helped throughout Missies long overdue checkup. I also took great comfort in the fact that she had stopped meowing once we entered the office. I will be going back for regular check ups, and will recommend Ironwood Animal Hospital to all friends and family who live in the area. :-)

I recently had to take my dog in on a Saturday for an emergency visit for a ruptured anal gland. While the front desk staff person that I spoke with was very professional and sweet, the vet himself was anything but. From the moment that Dr. Funk came into the room I was waiting in, he was in a hurry to get out. He did not introduce himself, he did not seem to want to answer my questions and kept cutting me off, and was in a hurry to get out the door. All of our questions regarding follow up care and medication were provided by frontline staff and only because we asked. When I came back a few days later to make sure I was applying ointment to the anal area correctly, he saw me in their back exam area where the staff had taken me and looked as if he was annoyed. He was dismissive to his own assistant when she came over to him and asked if he could take a look. When he came over to me he was extremely rude and gave absolutely no attention to my dog. He may as well have been looking at a sofa I brought in. While on my initial visit they did take care of the problem at hand and my dog has healed well, I am skipping the free return visit they offered and will be taking my dog to my local vet. It did not even seem evident to me that Dr Funk cares much for animals based on the way that he treated mine. They do have a nice office, nice frontline staff, and weekends are available as well as walk-ins. Those are the only pluses that I saw there.
