ABOMINABLE CARE. Avoid at all costs. The Behavioral Health Unit has the most unprofessional staff, dirtiest facilities (the rooms smelled like urine), and incredibly unacceptable care. APATHETIC DOCTORS/NURSES. To illustrate, "The doctors dont have a schedule. They come in and out as they please," as one of the nurses aptly put it. And, they do not return calls either. After 6 attempts via phone and three in person in four days to speak to the patients doctor, I was still unable to contact the doctor. The doctors are purposefully NEVER there during visiting hours. Finally, when speaking to a doctor and asking him questions about a patients history and behavior, he became upset and refused to answer questions. When I later asked a nurse for clarification, he walked toward me in an agitated fashion and stopped inches before my face asking me in a menacing loud voice "Is there a problem? Did I not already tell you what happened? What? Could you not understand me because of my accent?" When I stated that I felt he was upset and did not understand why, given that I was simply trying to obtain information, he calmed down and explained that he thought I had not believed him....This behavior is of serious concern given that he works with patients whose cognitive faculties may be impaired and cannot calm him down the way I did. In addition, the nurses use excessive force and rarely interact with the patients. For example, they stay within the central room behind closed doors rather than observing the patients or interacting with them. Whats most upsetting is that they verbally tell patients that they have been diagnosed with certain conditions and that they are ill, when the patients medical histories do not reflect such diagnoses. They mislead their patients and exhibit NO tact in communicating with them. I witnessed a nurse telling a patient he was "a Schizophrenic" during visiting hours in a very nonchalant matter of fact manner in front of others. It turned out that the patient has never been diagnosed with Schizophrenia. But, even if he had been diagnosed, how in the world did that nurse find it acceptable to tell patients they are sick with illnesses in such a public fashion when he barely even knows the patients names?! TERRIBLE GENERAL CARE:In addition to absent doctors, the patients lack adequate exercise and activities. Rather than providing guided activities, the staff give patients "Smoke Breaks" in an outdoor space so small that it is impossible to take a fresh breath with all the smoke around. To be fair, they do have a dilapidated basketball hoop, but with all the smoke and the excessive sedatives administered to patients, it makes it difficult for them to exercise. They should instead call these "Outdoor Breaks" and provide a specific smoking designated area. RIGHTS VIOLATIONS: Moreover, patients do not have access to a free phone and are berated for attempting to make phone calls without payment. (It is standard for hospitals to allow FREE outgoing calls for their patients, so patients are confused that they must insert coins). Finally, it is a direct violation of patients rights to maintain them asleep with sedatives forced into their skin through injections for up to 20 hours. One of the nurses mentioned that it is "common for them go to sleep at 8pm and not wake up until around 4pm the next day"!!! To keep someone devoid of exercise and awareness for 20 hours is criminal.

I recently called in to ask about a routine tuberculosis test that I needed for my job. The receptionist, who answers the phone after you refrain from responding to the automated promts, was brash and uninformative. I asked her if they offered a free service (something that I believed to be unheard of but I thought there could be a small possibility of it being true or there would at least be a nominal fee associated with the process) She replied "no", and so I asked what the price was to get that service done? She then said that they did not provide the service and that it was something that the emergency department would have to handle. I asked her to transfer me to the emergency. The woman, who answered next did not answer my question when asked and then abruplty left me on hold with no notification. Approximately 5 minutes later a man with a heavy accent begins to talk to me. He informs me only through my difficult attempts at interpreting what he was trying to convey, that they do not give TB tests and I would have to go to a clinic, which when I asked where was one located, he became attitudinal in addition to his already mal disposition towards me because I had to continuously question his poor articulated comments. He neglected to give me any concrete answer about the services they do provide and for whom, nor did he tell me where there was a clinic, which I could access. Needless to say, I did not feel assisted in any means, and I was willing to pay almost any price eventhough I had inquired about free services. The internet rated this institution as a above average hospital. If customer service is a determinant as to what constitutes a good rating, Belflower medical center rates below a zero. I would never trust these individuals with my health, theyre lack of concern reminds me of the pre-historic days of "cut off" first, diagnoses and ask questions later. I would be ashamed to work or be associated with such an uncaring facility. I equate them to the level of McDonalds and every other fast food chain of sporadic, abhorent customer service. In todays economic times, this behavior is highly inappropriate. Beware!

My brother had to take his wife there because she was experiencing pre-term labor at 34 weeks. They checked her in and was there for 24 hours but they were the worst ever. The staff was not being informant on the procedures they were doing. When asked questions their answers were always vague. The doctor never showed up and only called in to check on her. The ultrasound tech broke her water and didnt even notify them about it. They found out her water broke when they were doing the routine check on her and they were still not sure if her water was broken or not. What kind of nurse does know if your water is broken or not?? I called in a couple of times to try to get answers of what was going on and they said I was harassing them! That was not the case, they just dont know what to do. I would NEVER in my life recommend or go to this hospital. My sister-in-law finally got transferred to St. Marys Hospital and the nurses here are 100% much more helpful than Bellflower. They are all probably Bryman college graduates!

My dad got his first bill from them and promptly paid it. That was around December of 2008. Now hes got a collector coming after him for a bill ( more than 6,000 ) that he has never seen. And yes, all these talk about rude people who answer the phones are true. Doctor never explained to him what the test was for or what kind of tests are supposed to be done.

Idk about the whole hospital but the Labor and Delivery section the nurses are so kind and helpful every time we went for our check ups or if we thought my wife was in labor they knew just what to do. Nurses come check up on yuu every 15-20 min. not like other hospital that check ever 30-45 min. Great Hospital to Deliver at. :)
