we never would have written this comment except that WE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM DR. MIRA OFFERING CUSTOMERS $10 OFF THEIR NEXT VISIT IF THEY WRITE A GOOGLE REVIEW FOR HIM. dr. mira owns a very poor vet practice; he is a very poor replacement for the late, great dr. stonebreaker. after the wonderful dr. stonebreaker tragically died, we tried to continue using this vet service; but, it was horrible with one wrong diagnosis after another. one of the long standing techs took us aside and sent us to vet specialty because she knew our dog so well and knew something life threatening was going on and the vet was not solving it. so thanks to this angle of a vet tech, we went to vet specialty in sorrento valley where they immediately diagnosed our dog and had him in surgery within five hours to save his life :) when our dog healed from this very expensive surgery, we went back to animal and bird hospital (six months later) to work on an allergy issue because we received a letter from mrs. stonebreaker stating the practice had been sold and she assured us via the phone the new vet(s) was great or she would not have sold the practice. well, we went back to support dr. stonebreakers legacy. we were sadly surprised that none of the old vet techs we knew were working at this practice any more. dr. miras new technician was incompetent and could not understand what we were explaining to her, and she failed to look at the history of the dog. the new vet, dr. mira came in and was no better. he wanted us to pay for the same tests paid for in the past, and had not looked at the dogs extensive chart with animal and bird hospital along with the extensive bills for service equating to misdiagnosis. dr. mira did nothing on behalf of the hospital to make up for the past misdiagnosis -- even though we stated at the beginning of the consultation that we felt this was appropriate because of all the money spent in the past for incorrect diagnosis. we felt it would be a small gesture to work on our dogs allergy for free because of the issues in the past. well, all he wanted was to run expensive tests and charge us along with not listening or looking at the dogs chart to see what had been tried in the past -- he wanted to dismiss the past and start billing us! we should have listened to so many of our neighbors that said dontt go back because his practice is poor and fails to listen to owners about their pets. neighbors feel, and we agree, that dr. mira does not compare to the late dr. stonebreaker; stonebreaker cared about our pets. he always made us feel safe that our dog was in his care, and he would conservatively get to the bottom of what ailed our dog. we live two minutes from this vet service, and we will never go back along with so many of our friends and neighbors. rest in peace, dr. stonebreaker -- words cannot express how deaply we respected you and your work for our pets and wildlife -- your funeral was a testament to how you were loved -- standing room only and out the doors of the church. you loved our dog, and we loved you!

My two dogs love day care and boarding at the Animal and Bird Hospital. They come home happy and tired -- perfect for me after a long day of work! More important though is the great medical care that Ive gotten from Dr Mira -- hes been our vet for more than 6 years and we followed him to his new location/business. The other doctors know their stuff too - theyve got the latest treatments and drugs that you may want for your pets. I feel like, over the years, Ive gotten very honest assessments from the staff, as in when to invest more in finding solutions, and sadly in the past 2 years, when it was time to say goodbye to my previous 2 dogs. I do hear a lot from people that this vet is more expensive than others and I agree with that for medical care. My dogs deserve the best, and I and other regular customers can make that investment in our pets. If you need/want less expensive, Petco offers a clinic so you too can keep your pets healthy with shots and other basics.

We regret we brought our dog to this vet. What upsets us the most is that we paid $200.00 more than they disclosed the bill would be(from $290.00 to $470.00). We had read wonderful reviews and everything that you read in those reviews is true. They worked us into their schedule immediately, were very kind and friendly and took time to explain information. If the surprise extra $200.00 would not have happened, this would have been a five star review. It may have been just an off visit for us, with it taking 2 hours and being surprised with an extra $200.00 at the end. We expressed our dismay at the check-out, when we were first shocked by the price. We also called 30 minutes later, when we had processed what had happened even more. The doctor that saw our dog, Layne, called us back to express her apologies. Even if the intent was not to take advantage or to up sell, we can not shake the feeling that we were mislead.

I have 2 cats and am raising an assistance dog. Drs. Mira and Havens are wonderful. My actual first experience with them was during an emergency with one of my cats at their previous practice. They were able to see me right away, help calm my fears and took amazing care of my cats bladder obstruction. When they moved their practice to this location I did not hesitate to follow them. They continually take amazing care of my animals, and me, as the often nervous and overly cautious pet parent. All of the staff at the practice are just so friendly and helpful. You can really tell that are there because they love animals and are going to take great care of your furry and feathered loved ones. Getting an appointment is really easy, especially now that they have Sunday hours. Picasso, Matisse & Shimmy say that you cant go wrong with using Animal & Bird Hospital!!

We have been only in Solana Beach for a year now and Animal & Bird was referred to us by a friend. We have 2 dogs, a boxer and a great dane Mix. Cedar our boxer has been to Animal & Bird a few times as she has allergies to I swear everything in California and every time we go there they make her very comfortable and always explains everything going on. Ruby our great dane mix usually hates vets and has to be sedated to take the edge off. Well Layne the first day she meet Ruby got on the floor and made Ruby feel at home and very comfortable and not stressed. Layne is the only vet Ruby will see as we dont need to sedate her if she is seeing Layne. The staff at Animal & Bird are awesome and always makes you feel at home and comfortable and know your animal is in great hands. Scott Newell

When you walk through the doors of the Animal & Bird Hospital, you immediately know that everyone there is an animal lover. My dogs are first made to feel comfortable and then treated by everyone from the front desk crew, vet techs, kennel team, and veterinarians. Regardless of how big or small the health concerns weve come across, I always walk out of their understanding exactly what is going on and the short and long term actions that need to be taken. Ive been going here for years and Drs. Mira, Havens-Fournier, Ditsche and staff get Rusty, Buddy, and my highest recommendations.
