I have been a loyal customer here for 5 years. Thats ENDED today. They saved my dogs life from parvo and I am grateful for that. HOWEVER, my five years of service ends today. I have never enjoyed the customer experience here due to the staff that comes off as uncaring and rude. My main complaints are extreme over pricing, a rude staff, and overly offensive doctor who seemed to be on a power trip. My experience in more detail below: Just coming in for vaccines, each shot has gone up by 50% in the last month since they told us to get $500 x-rays for my dogs fever that went away within the hour. (Money definitely comes off as the only concern at that point). I am on a budget so I was trying to figure out (with the blonde lady at the front desk) if there is any way I could adjust the prices or put off a set of vaccines till next week. He response was "well everything is going up. Food, gas, etc..." OK sure I understand that you may not be able to help me out in my budget situation but at least have the courtesy to say "let me see if there is anything I can" EVEN IF there isnt anything you can do. She then went on to say (starkly) that she can barely afford her own pet bills but still has to pay. OK thank you for making me feel bad for being on a budget now.... FINALLY after getting charged $230 for one shot and two tests and AFTER weve sat down she finally has the courtesy to ask how my dog is doing... You know you could have asked that when I first came to your desk. I admit I probably sound like Im complaining a lot but the front desk really has an utter lack of people skills and customer service. Along with that, while my dog was getting his shot, I asked the head vet why they charge $20 for every-single visit even with appts. He then became very defensive answering almost angrily that he had a bad experience with kaiser where he had to go there 3 times in one day and was charged for each independent visit and therefore he wanted to apply the same thing to his facility. To each man his own, sure, but I felt like I was being scolded and it became very awkward... a very unenjoyable experience. My tolerance for poor service is pretty high (considering Ive been coming here for 5 years) but today really pushed me over the edge to the point I felt bad on the car ride home. Please congratulate your staff for scaring away a 5 year customer :) ....

I have been taking my animals to South Sacramento Pet Hospital since 1990. I have continued to go to SSPH because I have the confidence in their staff and vet practices, along with experience to know that my animals are being cared for. The doctors and staff have always answered my multitude of questions and listen to my comments and observations on my animal’s health. It feels more like a partnership with the vets than a service where I have little input. I have seen many doctors come and go over the years, but did not see a lessening of the quality of care. Recently, this hospital acquired the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation. This is a voluntary membership with the AAHA organization that has a specific set of standards a veterinary practice must meet to be eligible. I originally went to this vet hospital because it was close and I could afford it. What first grabbed my attention on the level of quality of the vet care was an incident where my diabetic cat lost his balance for a few weeks. Both vets that looked at him had said (separately) that they had done further research on his condition. They then told me what to expect, how to help him, and that it may be a permanent condition (it wasn’t this time). That really helped with what was a trying time for him (and for me). For what it is worth, my first cat lived 20 years and was under their care for 19 years; the rest were a diabetic cat under their care for 16.5 years and the last two cats were under SSPH care for 16.5 and 15 years. I have recommended this vet hospital, vet and staff for many years and now with a new kitten, I plan on this cat to be under their care for the next 15-20 years.

South Sacramento Pet Hospital has GREAT prices!!! But with a cheap price, comes cheap service. After meeting the vet, I did not want to even come back, but being that I was on a budget I chose to get services done here. I thought maybe he and the staff we just having an off day, but that is not the case! Very impersonal, his huffing made it sound like my very being there was wasting his time. I had my dog in for surgery twice, (first time was not done correctly). And both times upon pickup he was gone for the day, did not bother to leave any notes on what he did, nor did he let the staff know that my dog was even there or even call to let me know that my dog was ready to be picked up! Extremely unprofessional, I have been to many vets, but this one takes the cake! I severely CAUTION anyone from going here! They dont have any compassion or common courtesy, I dropped more than $1500 here and asked repeatedly for them to call me when my dog was ready and to please leave me notes are something to let me know what is going on with my dog. Did it happen? No. If you do not mind impersonal cheap service this is for you! If your animal needs something important and you need details as to what is going on, do NOT come here!

I called to get my dogs ear medicine. "You have to bring her in" Great, like I can afford the additional office visit! So I take her and my 1 year old Catahoula (who has had her puppy shots). While there I figure... might as well get them vaccinated. So I do and my Catahoula get deathly ill.... I take her back a couple days later cause she is no better.... They poo-poo her symptoms.... she will recover from the effects of the vaccine. OK, i guess they know best...well 2 days later Im pretty sure she IS going to die so I take her to another vet hopital upon recommendation. She IS VERY SICK! she has PARVO, what! My dog is perfectly fine, I take her to get routine booster and bam! 2 weeks in ICU and $1400 later (thank you for not sticking me with astronomical fees) My dogs vaccine GiVES her PARVO and almost kills her. Of course they will never admit that the vaccine had anything to do with it. Nope my dogs will be going somewhere else. Id advise the same for anyone looking for a vet ~ Keep looking.

I have been coming to this vet hospital for a while now. EVERYTIME I go there it is like visiting part of the family. EVERYONE in this office is amazingly passionate about what they do. They care so much for your animals and make sure you, the owner, are just as comfortable. They show you everything and the cost is always reasonable and fair compared to other hospitals. My most recent experience was with our new addition Cinnamon. My husband found her and she had no chip. I took her in for the works! Chip, shots, what I thought was an ear infection (was a foxtail in her ear) and to be spayed. They took such great care of her and my daughter who was very upset we had to leave her new baby at the hospital. We picked her up the next day and she was great! The hospital even called me the next day to check in and be sure Cinnamon was doing well. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VET HOSPITAL EXPRESS SO MUCH LOVE AND CARE FOR MY ANIMALS AND MY FAMILY. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO WORK FOR SOUTH SACRAMENTO PET HOSPITAL!
