My first experience here was in the summer of 2014. I was getting tired eyes after staring at a computer screen all day, and was diagnosed with tired eyes. They prescribed computer glasses that worked decently well. No problems there. My second visit was either July or August of 2015. I wanted to get a pair of sunglasses through insurance. They helped me pick out some great looking frames. I was told that I would have to put a prescription in them for me to get a discount. Somehow the frames still cost well into the $200 range. OK, sure... I did it. The sun glasses came a few weeks later in August. My eyes werent adjusting well. I was told they would take a few weeks to adjust. I just powered through it for a month. I stopped using my glasses as the days grew shorter since I didnt really need them. I started them wearing a lot recently. I had headaches at the end of the day and couldnt figure out what was different. It was the glasses. I went on the Oakley website and saw that replacement lenses would be $50-100 depending on the type I wanted. Amazon has non-Oakley lenses for $20. I called the office to tell them of my situation and find out my options.I knew that because I had waited so long there would be some out of pocket cost. Fine. My mistake. The receptionist seemed uncaring of the situation and informed me it would cost $70 for the same non-Oakley lenses I could get from Amazon for $50 more than Amazon was charging! But, I had a second option. I could buy the glasses and non-prescription lenses for $300! WHAT?! How does this make sense? The office visits were good enough to be a returning patient. I would just never buy anything from them should I have wanted to return. So, why go?

Dr. Morioka has been my optometrist for the past 8 years and her excellent professional demeanor and accumulated knowledge draws me back again and again. For an additional out-of-pocket fee of $39, as of 2013, her office began offering photographs of the inside of your eyeballs to watch for any progressive changes. It is really neat to see the macula, convergence of the optic nerves, veins, and arteries while she explain any changes. I truly believe this is really important point to go back year after year for your annual exam to look for progressive issues. Her practice also specializes in treating dry eyes. Given that the Bay Area lacks much humidity compared to where I grew up, she has treated my dry eyes with punctual plugs and Restasis eye drops. Her staff is extremely helpful when it comes to interpreting insurance plans with A/B scenarios. The on-site optician provides excellent service when recommending up-to-date frames and offering frame adjustments. The all-inclusive service on-site is very convenient, right off of the Chinatown Grant Street gates too.

Im not a patient of this place and they treated me like gold. We were visiting from out of town and my wife had some trouble with her contact lenses. Saw their store and walked in to ask for assistance. Both Ruby and Karen were extremely friendly and accommodating. Not only did they let my wife wash her contacts they also gave her a lens case and a free bottle of saline. All this service for someone who is not a patient is amazing. Thank you for your generosity.

I have been going g here for 20 years! Both Dr. Morioka & Dr. Penza are highly skilled, easy to work with and compassionate. Recent Dr. Penza introduced a treatment for people with brain injuries that helps with balance. Staff efficient & also friend fly.
