I have never written a bad review of anyone before, but I feel I need too. Yesterday we brought our sweet 11week husky into this clinic. Dr. Hawrig immediately asked us "why did you get this breed?". She put us on the defensive from the beginning. She obviously has a negative idea of huskies. She kept saying that they were not loyal and they were brats and that we were in for it. First, we did a few YEARS of research and watched 100s of videos of huskies with owners and that just is not true. Our puppy is so sweet and loving and has truly bonded with us in the last 3 weeks. When she examined him she was extremely mean to him. She pulled on his ear until he was yelping and crying. She continued to hold it until he quit crying which was about 6 minutes(which seemed forever for me!!) I almost shoved her back because it was unnecessary! Then she looked at his other ear for about a second. And afterwards she looked at us and said "See!". The doctor obviously hates this breed and I dont know how she is with other breeds, but she is not to me a TENDER LOVING CARE vet at all to me. Maybe she was having a bad day or something but ANYONE who would abuse a cute puppy to prove their point is not a good person much less a good vet. We will be interviewing vets in the future without our puppy there. I have never encountered a Vet like this and we have 3 cats and just lost our sweet 15 year old dog. When we got into the car he kept whining and when we got home he had diarrhea and vomited. He has never had soft stool or vomited in the 3 weeks that we have had him. He goes to sleep around 9 at night on his own normally, but he was whining and couldnt sleep and kept going outside to poop. We stayed up with him all night. He slept most of the day today. He hasnt been himself since we left the vet. I am hoping he is back to normal tomorrow-- if not we will take him to another vet (but we will ask if they like huskies first!) I hope this helps anyone that has a husky.... They ARE sweet loving loyal dogs so dont listen to her. I would take them somewhere else!! Update: the vet wants us to call her but I still dont understand why she would be mean to a 10 week puppy so Im not taking him back to her. Also, I asked about our cats allergies and I didnt know the name of the shot and she acted very condescending. All in all she was rude to us and horrible to my puppy. Like I said before-- I dont know how she is with other breeds but Im not taking him back to her (we paid for a worm test so my husband is taking that in but without our sweet puppy) This is the only bad review I have EVER given anyone much less a vet and I worked for a vet for 4 years as a receptionist.

I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Hartwig as my kids’ veterinarian for the past 13 years. I interviewed the surround veterinarians and Dr. Hartwig was the only one who gave alternative medical suggestions for my twenty pound cat (she was malnourished and dehydrated when I got her as a kitten, and by the age of one was nineteen pounds). Throughout the years, Dr. Hartwig has always done research on my cats’ issues (mega colon, eosinaphilic granuloma, anemia with kidney failure, etc..) to provide me with options (Eastern, Western, nutrition, and alternative medicine) to treat my dog and cats. Because we are not just treating a condition, we are treating an animal who has feelings, preferences, and in my case some stubborn behaviors. I was delighted to have one of my cat’s diminished mobility successfully treated by laser therapy instead of drug. The fact that Dr. Hartwig has consistently through the years investing in equipment and training (acupuncture, x-ray machine, laser therapy module, nutritional supplements, massage classes, etc…) to better serve her clients, has re-enforce my initial decision of selecting her as my kids’ vet. I don’t know how many times she has called me out of the blue, because she has learned about something that would help one of my kids. Not only does Dr. Hartwig bring knowledge and experience to the examining table, she brings patience and heart. My dog is skittish and smart. Instead of coming in, giving my dog shots and leaving, Dr. Hartwig comes in to the examining room, chats with Nikki, gives her treats and then takes her into the back to give her shots. This is works so much better than if I am in the room. My dog comes back wagging her tail and waiting for her goodbye treat. One of my cat’s is also very uncomfortable at the clinic and hides under my coat that I bring, even if it is hot , so that she can hide under it. Dr. Hartwig always comes in spends time talking to Emily, petting her and praising her. This kind of care I treasure. For my animals are more than objects that I possess, they are my kids and they have their own personalities, needs, wants and desires. And I want to keep them in the highest quality of life possible. And I feel that I have a teammate my endeavor to do this and that teammate is Dr. Hartwig.

Dr. Hartwig is wonderful. She truly shows care and respect for animals. I never had a vet who was so considerate of my cats comfort and consciously gentle and calming. Also she truly took time to get the whole story of his condition and background to come up with possible causes and treatments. When I adopted my new cat in September, he had a parasite infection that according to the records had probably been several months old symptomatically. He had horrible diarrhea, wasnt eating, and threw up most of what he ate when he did. The first vet helped me get rid of the parasites, but then just said he had ibd. Doing some research on my own, it sounded like he might have had Tritrichomonas foetus, so I found a parasitologist to test him, but he was negative. I found a new vet through google (dr hartwig) who was highly recommended, and she took a detailed history of the 4 months Id had him and reviewed his records from the shelter. We discussed possible causes, issues, and treatments, and she suggested trying Cholacol for a week to see what happened and going from there (at that point, he was eating decently and not vomiting or having horrible diarrhea every time). She followed up with me and we decided to try the enteric support from Standard Process (which is nice because he will eat it rather than having to pill him - my other cat thinks theyre treats!). After about a month now, the diarrhea is pretty much non existent, and he has a great appetite. I am thankful to have found a vet who cares enough to spend time diagnosing rather than throwing pills at symptoms without considering the underlying causes.

Ive been taking my cats to Dr. Hartwig for 4+ years now, and I cant emphasize enough how special and wonderful I think her combination of knowledge and love for animals is. She has helped me through very trying times, all while providing excellent care for both me and my cats. Less than a year after a beloved cat died unexpectedly under negligent care of a different vet, I started taking my other cat, Moose, to Dr. Hartwig for what I feared was a cancerous growth. From the beginning, I could tell that Dr. Hartwig was different from other vets Id taken my pets to, because she clearly and consistently focuses on providing the best care with the best interests of the animals comfort in mind. When it turned out that Mooses growth was NOT cancerous, Dr. Hartwigs joy was real. She genuinely seemed as happy and relieved as I was. Since then, she has guided me through Mooses other health issues--hyperthyroidism and kidney disease. Im a research scientist so I tend to ask a lot of questions, and Dr. Hartwig always willingly answers them all while also sharing with me her expertise. She kept Mooses personality, behaviors, and well-being at the center of every discussion and decision. Sadly, Moose passed away 2 months ago at the age of 16. Dr. Hartwig so patiently and kindly helped me come to terms with and go through that painful process. The last four years of care she has provided for Moose has truly felt like a partnership among all three of us. I will continue to bring my pets to Dr. Hartwig because of the excellent, attentive care she provides.
