I went to Cape Coral Hospital with my fiance and four year old. His symptoms started on Tuesday April 5th. He was complaining of stomach pains, and felt warm. On April 6th his symptoms worsened to stomach pains, burning throat and now was saying his ear was hurting him. I had decided to put a warm rag on his ear (instead of rushing to the emergency room being it was 10 pm). Checked his temp as well and the result was 98.8. After leaving the rag on his ear for a good hour, he proceeds to show me that the pain has moved from his ear and into the bottom of his neck where it has swollen considerably, as well as his cheek. Me and my fiance decided to hold off try some more pain medicine and then we would take him to the emergency room after my fiance got off work on the 7th. We did medicine doses when allotted and i frequently checked his temperature. It ranged from 98 to the highest a 99.6. We go to cape coral hospital and check in around 4:35. After waiting in the waiting room, we finally got back to a room at 6:30 7ish. To which we waited another 20 minutes for a Physicians assistant to see us. This "P.A." walked into our room without saying anything and proceeded to get his gloves on. After a good minute or two he finally introduces himself. Said that he was going to be checking on our son to see whats going on. We proceeded to tell him what all had been going on (what i explained above). He looks at my sons face and feels the swollen area. Checks his throat and says that was normal, checks his ears and says that is normal. He in a round about way told us it could be his Parotitis "looks" swollen. And that the only thing you can do for that is to put a warm compress on his ear, massage the area, and have him eat some sour candy!! Said it opens up the tube for all the swelling to help go down. Mind you this P.A told me this information as if i was asking a friend for advice, well maybe its this, try doing this. He vaguely explained what that tube was and repeatedly said maybe looks like his Parotitis is swollen. Baffled at the fact hes not for sure telling me whats going on and that he isnt planning on prescribing anything to him I asked "So you cant prescribe him some antibiotics?" He told me no they wouldnt do that at this point because there is no redness in the area. MY SONS FACE IS SWOLLEN AND WAS RED!!! THE WHOLE CONVERSATION TOOK A TOTAL OF MAYBE 5 MINUTES IF THAT! The "P.a" said he would get our discharge papers and we could go!! Which we waited another 5-10 minutes for. At this point i tell my fiance to just go out to the car and i will get the papers. On the way he sees the nurses talking and laughing together at the main desk. After which the nurse brings me the paper work. Asking "oh where did they go" she should know she watched my son and fiance walk out, and when he seen her chatting it up she finally brought our papers. The biggest joke of a hospital i have ever seen. The p.a. guessed not diagnosed (that takes longer than five minutes) what was wrong with my son. And the the thing that pisses me off the most, suggested i give my four year old sour candy to help with the pain and swelling and prescribed him NOTHING!! To wait that long in a room full of sick people also waiting 4 to 6 to 8 hours is so beyond ridiculous!! To even risk taking my son to a room filled with sick people, when he is already sick and then be told they cant do anything! Walking out of that hospital with only the possibility my son might get sick now again for nothing was the most helpless feeling!! Needless to say my sons face is still swollen and i cant get him a real Doctors appointment until Monday! DONT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN OR ANYONE TO THIS HOSPITAL! AND IF YOU DO PLAN ON MAKING IT A ALL DAY THING!!! I ARRIVED AT AROUND 4:35 AND DIDNT GET MY DISCHARGE PAPERS UNTIL 7:42. THIS IS A ZERO STAR REVIEW!!

Kelsie Phillips neglected to perscribe medication that is covered under my insurance. When I called the operator (Sheryl) I explained my situation and asked who I need to speak with and asked to speak with the supervisor of the ER. She transfered me to the nurses station so I could ask them to send a perscription to my pharmacy that was covered under my insurance(since i couldnt walk and get out of bed.) I spoke with the nurse supervisor Diane. She refused to let me speak with Kelsie and at that time refused to give me her name(the nurse supervisors name, Diane). She had told me to call my primary doctor but it was late and my doctors office was closed and doesnt prescribe pain medicine, only anti inflammatory meds (which I had explained to Kelsie Phillips). Diane hung up on me multiple times when I tryed calling back after the first time she hung up on me. I was finally able to get Dianes name when i called later and she answered with her name. When i called the operator (Sheryl)back after Diane hung up on me multiple times (Sheryl, who told me her name was Shirley light) sent me to security and other extensions. I found out her name later when I called and she answered with her name. When I asked security to be transfered to the ER nurses department he refused and said that the nurses supervisor (Diane)doesnt want to talk to me and refused to transfer me, then hung up on me. When I was being discharged from the hospital Kelsie Phillips gave me a pain medicine that made me vomit and made my back worse after I told her pain meds usually make me vomit and causes my back to strain and hurt worse. She neglected to give me anything to help with nausea like other doctors have before. I was in the ER for severe back pain and couldnt walk or move without being in extreme pain. Kelsie Phillips was very short with me and had a horrible attitude talking down to me. Her and her nurses kept getting my information incorrect. Her nurses kept forgetting about me when I needed help to use the restroom and when I had asked them multiple times that I needed water and was extremly thirsty and dehydrated. When I recieved my diagnoses I requested a second opinion which they also refused. I had the worst experience.

I am completely in shock over my fiances visit to the ER today. He did something to his back a week ago and has been in so much pain that he hasnt slept more than an hour at a time in 6 days; his chiropractor told him to go to Urgent Care, they didnt help; we went to Lee Memorial Convenient Care they said to go get an MRI and then go to the ER... At first it was great, we got in quickly, doc said he was going to give him something IV to knock him out and then the nurse came in... She sets him up with 1 mg Dilaudid and 5 mg Valium but after she leaves the intern keeps saying its Dilaudid and Morphine, so Im a little confused. Fiance has no relief, after 30 minutes I go out and ask for the nurse to come back in she looks mad at my fiance because he isnt stoned out of his mind and I question whether it was Valium or Morphine, she gets upset and says "It was morphine, I pulled it so I am pretty sure I know what it is" and storms out. She comes back 30 minutes later saying the doctor was discharging him because, and I quote "Its just pain, we all have it, youre going to have to deal with it, we arent going to just keep pumping you full of drugs." She saw him walk to the bathroom, with my assistance and says "if you can walk to the bathroom you dont need us" And she didnt even take the IV out before telling us to leave. I have been a substance abuse counselor for 10 years so I am fully aware of the "drug seekers" of the ER however my fiance was not anything like that and hates to take aspirin let alone hard drugs. When he questioned why the narcotics didnt work she just ignored us and walked out. There was woman in the room next to us (who probably was an addict) and when she asked for the supervisor the nurse called security and asked to have her removed because she was assaultive. The other patient was actually saying "I dont want drugs I just want to be discharged" I was really hoping for better but this was horrible. I wonder what service he would have gotten with 5 star insurance that they could bill thousands of dollars too...
