My (adult) son was sent to South Lakes ER early last night because his doctor suspected failure (and a potential rupture) of his appendix. He left work early with severe pain in his abdomen, some pain in his chest & back, could not keep food down for the past few days and was feeling super weak/lethargic. A cat scan showed a thickened bladder. Thankfully all the blood work and a urinalysis on him came back normal. So...even though he was still in a lot of pain and now has a thickened bladder, they sent him home at 5am today. "If you feel worse, come back immediately" is what they said. Seriously? As his mom, here are my concerns and issues. IF he had marked improvement while in the ER and IF the test results were all normal, then sending him home to rest (with some meds for the severe abdominal pain) and see if it goes away on its own would seem appropriate and acceptable. However, he said that his pain is just as severe as it was when he first walked into the ER last night so why didnt they keep him in the hospital and continue to run tests until they found the problem? How about an upper GI series/endoscopy, perhaps even a MRI? Why isnt a closer examination being done to sort out the thickening of his bladder? If he goes back today or tomorrow (with the same level of pain that has been slowly building for the past few days), what magical diagnostic test do they plan to do THEN that (clearly) they arent willing to offer him NOW? The only thing I see happening is that...if he has to go back theyll get to charge him another copay and deductible for that 2nd ER visit. Is that what itll take to get them to keep him for additional tests so they can actually diagnose and help him? Im thinking that this sudden rush to send him home without really helping him is nothing more than pressure from the insurance company over money. Well damnit, he HAS insurance for this very reason so why is he back home and still suffering? Even though they know theyll get paid, it seems to me that these insurance carriers are more concerned with their own bottom line than they are about a paying customers health and wellbeing. Theyre now the ones driving the medical machine that was once controlled by the hospitals and professionally doctors working within them. Shameful! At this point, what I do know for certain is this much.......they ALL had better start praying real hard and right now that my son gets better because theyll need every last bit of Gods divine intervention if something happens to my son as a result of their refusal to keep, diagnose and properly treat him. ER care at this hospital? Overall and based on how my sons condition was dealt with, I would rate it with negative stars if the option was there.

I have gone to South Lake Emergency Room on 2 occasions bleeding through my ears during the last 2 years! The ER Drs, Physician Assistant, nurses and staff are excellent professionals, they did ear lavage and cleaning, prescribed medications and referred me to ENT Drs, Family physician that also work at South Lake Hospital! This Emergency room Drs and health professionals are in my opinion the best in the world! They called me and evaluated me quickly and have excellent Customer service! I give thanks to God for giving me the pleasure of going there for treatment! Last Wednesday on 03/09/16, My wife Tere Pizarro was done a 1 day Surgery for repair of incisional hernia, she was hospitalized and was treated with excellent Customer Services, excellent Drs and Nurses and all staff! The only thing that bothered me was that when she was operated after the surgery the surgeon updated me and explained everything about her surgery and then 2 hours later the nurse told us that she was okay and that they will get a room shortly. I waited almost 3 hours and asked and the OR nurse did not tell me that she was already in the room on the third floor, they did not notify me in the surgery waiting area for me to go see her at her room! The staff and the nurses and Drs on the floor were excellent and very professional! Also bothered me that they did not give her her daily medications although when she was admitted the chief nurse ask and was faxed from the surgeon office all of her medications and she assured us that she would make arrangements to get my wife all the daily medications and they did not supply her her medications! Other than that it was a good experience

The worst experience you can have is having a baby at this hospital. The hospital not only double billed us, but billed us for emergency room care when we never set foot near any emergency room, we call and spoke with a represenative in their claims department, the represenative told us not to pay the 801.91 dollar bill until they finished an investigation on the charges, the phone call was recorded and we were assured that they would contact us with their findings, it has been a couple of weeks without any new information from the hospital and we are now having a collection agency harass us because of this hospitals billing error. The hospital has been ignorant to our questions and keep telling us they will investigate the billing error yet instead of investigating they send us to collection agency. have your baby and any other procedure done at another hospital because this place will overcharge you and lie to you. It would be awesome for someone high up in this hospitals food chain to actually get their act together and regulate the terrible customer service being provided to their patients. I will continue to spread the word about this disgraceful organization until they correct this. The bbb will be contacted as well. I am so sorry that we chose to have our child at this institution instead of a more reputable hospital. The services provided to us are a whole story i could tell you about but i will just let you know you will be billed for things that never happen and ignored when you investigate the charges then sent to collections when they tell you they are investigating the charges.

He said the surgery was the only way for be better.I want to say thank you to all staff, because from the entrance where the person in the front desk was so friendly with my doughter and I, later at the room every person that was taking care of me was very kind : the nurses, the anesthesiologist, and my Doctor Stuart everyone was so kind and nice with I and my doughter because I understand English not at all, but I can speak no too fast, and my doughter don"t.
