I have to say the staff is wonderful but I had issues with several other things. The 1st being the rooms. They are double occupancy with beds separated by a curtain. If you do not get the bed by the window you are left with a small cramped space by the bathroom and the door to the room. There is barely room for the monitors or IV poles and no room at all for a chair for a visitor or for yourself if you want a reprieve from the very uncomfortable beds. If your bedmate has visitors they are paraded by you at the foot of your bed as well as staff going back and forth. Not to mention if they do have company and you are trying to sleep well good luck with that. There is a curtain to enclose yourself but if you use that you cannot see the TV. You never see outside as you have no window. My biggest concern is lack of privacy and the possibility of your PII which is Personally Identifiable Information that could potentially identify a specific individual. You are constantly asked you full name and date of birth. This information can be used to steal your identity. I know this because the company I work for is a background investigation company and we see many times candidates having their identity stolen. The fact that you are constantly asked you full name and date of birth is good in the respect that it makes sure you are not given incorrect medications or procedures but it is asked in an open forum as there is no wall between the beds and not only can your bedmate hear it but any visitors as well. Not to mention they hear all of your medical inquiries as well as the discussions you have with your doctors. To me that is unacceptable. My other issue is with the attending doctor a doctor named Desai. This is the one who admits you and the one that releases you. I came in with markers for a heart attack and it turned out to be a possible nerve block that mimics the symptom of extreme back pain radiating out of the middle left shoulder blade and mild chest pain- left arm being numb with sweating and nausea. The hospital did due diligence to come to this conclusion and kudos to them. So this doctor comes to me Wed afternoon and tells me that it is not my heart and I am being released. I was a bit taken back as the pain had not subsided – we are talking mind numbing back pain and my left arm tingling and my left hand numb. I had been given morphine and Percocet alternately every 4 hours. It did not take the pain away but it kept it at bay and took the sharp edges off. I asked about the pain meds he was sending home with me and he and he said none. I was taken aback and asked why. He said it was too much paperwork for him to do it and I needed to follow up with my primary and they would write it. I told him that is not the way the current laws work for pain meds and he would not be able to do it not to mention it could take days to get to see him. He should really know this!!!! Then he said that you have breast cancer right? Have your oncologist write it. I was floored because at this point he was being condescending and airing my medical information to all the people visiting my bedmate – how rude!!! Again he could not write it for same reasons. Then he said the ortho had left me a pain med – but it was one I had never taken. I do have breast cancer and cannot take Any new meds or heck herbs without talking to my oncologist. All of this fell on deaf ears. I spoke with my bedmate and she said she he was SO condescending and really rude and she would support me with any actions / communications. I ended up going to the Diagnostic clinic walk in clinic which is my group of docs and getting what I needed for a few days. I can always count on them to be there for me unconditionally and Dr Rafi could see I was so upset. I won’t go back to this hospital under these circumstances. Combined with the missing of work – the uncomfortable situation – people hearing every word about my care and add to that a doctor who was rude an dismissed my concerns/pain does not do much to entice me back.

I went online to see wait times, 3+ hrs; I work in a hospital so I was VERY understanding of the holiday weekend & what that entails. I presented {1pm} for a possible neck injury (some might consider that more important than the 5 junkies who got assisted before me). Six & a half hours after arriving, they are telling me that the specific gravity of my urine was off so that the pregnancy test (pre- xray/cat scan) wasnt reading. I do urinalysis all day (& even worked for a laboratory where I was one of 3 people in entire lab who was signed of to do all serology testing-so Im not an idiot; probably smarter than most of the staff @ MPH), there is no need for specific gravity for pregnancy test - they were drug testing, which is fine. My problem is, I never asked for any kind of medication, all I wanted was to know if anything was wrong with my neck; remember, all the obvious junkies (cant sit still, talk incessantly, scratching themselves due to histamine release of drug) got seen well before some of what I consider true emergencies. SIX & A HALF HOURS & I never got my answer. You see, having not eaten since breakfast (and having seen shift change at the hospital & everyone on staff taking their lunches & gossipping, while I waited) I got hungry-now 7:30 pm. I asked the {now night shift} nurse for a pack of crackers if I had to continue to wait. With more attitude than I wish to describe online, she brings me back a turkey sandwich & throws it on the hospital bed (young blonde girl-should NOT be in this field, I mean really; I could see if she was exhausted, but she JUST started her shift & was already being a C U Next Tuesday); this is after much of the staff is asking me veterinary questions & knowing, what a huge animal lover I am & I dont eat meat. I declined services due to the fact that it was almost 12 hours since I had eaten & I had to work @ 8am the next morning; plus I have a household to take care of. I also made sure to tell them that I work with large, sometimes unruly animals & that is why I was there - to prevent a possible injury (large dog, jerking on leash; job is very physical) that might render me paralyzed, or otherwise disabled. All theyre worried about is making their $ & selling their drugs so the drug companies give them incentive$. Do not waste your time. Looked like a pill-mill to me; that along with a few real emergencies (sorry for your luck!). Mease Dunedin is no better. If anything does come of my possible neck injury, Ill be contacting a lawyer instantly. Try Largo Medical Center or Suncoast

In may of 2015 I had scheduled heart surgery. As I was being prepped for surgery, this older lady lifts my gown and starts shaving my groin. She tells me she usually doesnt do this, she is just a receptionist, but they are too busy that day. So here I am being exposed by someone that isnt even a medical professional with the door to my room left wide open so everyone outside the room can see me. In recovery my cardiologist told them I can drink water again. I was so thirsty I felt sick. The nurse there told me she did not care, because my cardiologist did not have to clean up the mess if I got sick. They also had no regard for anyones dignity, the person next to me was laying there with their gown lifted, so their nude body was in full view of most of the room, which was packed with at least a half dozen semi-conscious people. After 9 hours of being "under", they put me in a room with noisy room mates, that were allowed to have their company stay all night and leave the lights on. I begged and pleaded, that they make the guests go or for me to be moved. No help. Finally my wife called the head nurse, Molly, and complained. Molly came in with headphones and despite my protest, she ripped open a pair of headphones, plugged them in to my TV and just forced them on my head. I felt assaulted. Molly said this is because your wife keeps complaining. Finally at around 2 am, my personal nurse, Danielle, got me another room, because I started to get dressed to leave. Danielle was the only decent person. In fact she was great. The next morning, they bring me breakfast and give me expired milk. I took photo evidence of all of this with my phone. I was supposed to go home, but ended up developing other complications. The doctor said he felt that it was as a result of the night I had, right after a surgery. I ended up being hospitalized for a couple more days, but I went to Mease Countryside because I feared for my health in that cramped old run down hospital were negligence seemed to be the standard. I hope that this hospital gets their issues sorted out before they kill someone from their neglect and incompetence. Im giving this hospital one star because I cant give less. Refuse under any circumstances to be in this hospital. Find a different doctor if you have to. Your well being may depend on it.
