Let me start by saying I have been to many E.Rs with and without insurance. This happened to be a visit without insurance. I have been constipated for about a week and had blood with it this morning so I decided it was about time to go and get checked up. This is a bit of what happened this morning... i got there told the check in person what was going on(backed up plumbing to be nice)...the nurse didnt say a word to me other than take your shirt off put the gown on and left...then 2 nurses came in(one actual nurse the other a helper nurse)...she asked me what was wrong and i told her the basic problem...they didnt ask me anything else just to lay on my side...she did the exam extremely roughly to the point it made me cry and told me I had hard ones that were about to come out...then she said she had two options, get them out, or for me to take citrate and fleet, then she just left the room without giving me a chance to respond. A registrar lady then came in basically told me that my condition was not classified as an "emergency" even though I hadnt even been given a chance to tell anybody about the blood, so basically I could pay 150 dollars and be seen by the on call or leave. I asked her if I could speak to the nurse again she said that she would be in in a min, then the check in nurse came back in with NEW PATIANTS!!! He just turned around didnt even say oh..im sorry...then the helping nurse came back in and said we thought you left, we told you what you needed. I then tried to explain to him everything that ive done and the blood and that ive already tried the citrate and fleet and he still wanted to talk to me IN THE HALLWAY! I made him move us to a new room all the while im on the verge of balling...after i told him everything he went and talked to the nurse...she said to take another bottle of citrate and try the fleet again...i dont know what im going to do if this doesnt work again...im sitting on the couch just feeling like crap, worse then when i left

2/7/16: ER diagnoses wife as being constipated, sends her home 2/8/16: ER Vist 2: After a 2 hour ER wait, writhing in abdominal pain, ER admits wife, gives no diagnosis, sends no GI Specialist 2/9/16: No one will commit to a diagnosis, thinks she had stones but passed them already despite 2 negative CT scans with contrast, sends her home 2/11/16: ER Visit 3: Hospitalist tells my wife she doesnt need pain meds, shes just constipated. 2/12/16: Same hospitalist again says she just needs to have a bowel movement and she will be fine. 2/12/16: The only Urologist that works in this hospital finally sees her and diagnoses her as having a right side kidney blockage requiring a stint to clear. 2/13/16: The hospitalist doesnt dare show his pathetic face; wife is currently in surgery for something she should have been in surgery for last week. This hospital is understaffed, overwhelmed, and incompetent. Their incompetence is only matched by their arrogance, narcissicism and sense of self-preservation. Go someplace else. If you care about your health, the health of loved ones, the health of anyone, do not go to this hospital. They are not equipped to handle patients. The only area of this hospital that functions properly is the billing department. Altamonte has 7 urologists. Sanford has 1. This hospital is so painfully outdated. Risk Management has ignored all of my calls and voicemails. All of my complaints have been ignored. Every single step of the way has been a battle. Not a battle for special treatment, a battle for TREATMENT. Edit: as I type this, sitting in the surgery waiting room, I was just informed that although she was taken into outpatient surgery at 10:00, THE DOCTOR IS STILL JOT HERE at 11:30. At every opportunity this institution flat out blows it.

My husband broke his hip and was transported to this hospital by EMS. In the ER, he was told he would have surgery and staff thought it would be early the next morning. He had to fast for that surgery. He was admitted and the whole next day we didnt speak to a surgeon and didnt see any x-rays of the break. Nobody knew when the surgeon would talk to my husband. Finally, late in the day he was told hed have surgery at 5:30pm after hed been fasting for about 30 hours. Finally saw the doctor who had no x-rays but drew a picture of the problem. Husband only saw discharge planner one time and then on 5th day, after I had already left, he was told he would be transferred to a rehab facility that night. When he asked discharge planner the name of the place and the phone number, she said she didnt have that with her. There had been no communication from nurses or anybody that he was to be discharged that evening or that somebody was working on that plan. My husband is in excruciating pain when he is moved and he didnt want to take another dose of of heavy pain meds that day and wanted to wait to be transferred in the morning when he is given the meds for physical therapy. The doctor and discharge planner gave him a hard time. The communication between patient and staff is terrible at that hospital. Many nurses were nice but no real communication. It appears the departments dont communicate with each other. I called discharge planner but got answering device and never got a call back. I work in the mental health field and many nurses and other medical people told me to get my husband out of that hospital as soon as possible.

Would avoid this hospital if possible. This is the trauma center in the Orlando area so I got stuck coming here after a motorcycle accident. Staff courtesy is about average. You have good and bad. More bad than good Id say. The biggest thing this place lacks is professionalism. Not to mention outpatient treatment is extremely annoying as the check in desk is usually understaffed so youre waiting forever just to go wait in line again to get ur X-rays. Then the outpatient clinic across the street makes me wait at least an hour and a half past my appt time everytime I show up. I dont know what part was worse. Being in the intense care unit with nurses who didnt care enough to provide me with water while I was breathing through an air mask due to my collapsed lung and the fact that when I asked it was treated like some major chore for her. Or waiting all day to be seen by the ONE doctor who can apparently advise me on my dislocated shoulder. I wait for hours just to be asked, "does your shoulder feel alright? Ok well schedule a follow up on a month." Why not just have me come in for X-rays and let me leave if youre not going to provide me with any valuable information and then tell me I have to come back several more times to hear the same thing. Horrible experience everytime. Would recommend Florida Hospital of Orlando if your injuries warrant not being sent to the trauma center over in Sanford of all places.
