I am a military veteran and I called the va hospital telephone advice line to relay my symptoms and the nurse advised that I go to the nearest hospital in an ambulance which was Southern Regional Medical . Upon arriving I was wheeled into the waiting area. At that time I noticed several people in the waiting area sleeping on the floor with sheets wrapped around them and sitting around complaining about the wait time. I didnt think much of it at the time until the clock started ticking on me. I was asked by one of the nurses about how bad was my asthma attack, I looked at her confused and explained to her that I did not come there for asthma but vertigo and a out of wack blood pressure. I was told someone would be with me shortly. By now Im thinking that this place is so unprofessional and I couldnt help but think that my life could be in danger at this hospital and no one would care. This is the Wal-Mart of hospitals, after approximately 5 hours waiting and hearing other patients telling me that they had been there 14 hours, 23 hours, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I approached the front desk and informed the nurse that I would get seen faster by driving to the va hospital and be seen and be in and out before you guys would get to me and he said you are right you better off going there. I asked do I need to sign out or anything and he replied no. I witnessed there process while I was there, you wait up to 24 hours or so then you are called back to the processing dept to get your information to be billed and then you will be eventually seen.Funny thing was I wasnt seen nor was I called to the back but I was billed $1200.00 for What? I understand the $120.00 ambulance ride that took me 7 minutes to arrive there but what was the other amount for, visiting southern regional medical center. I didnt even get a tour of the place nor a brochure. I called the accounting dept. Which took about 2 weeks for someone to answer and they had no record of my account and had me to call some place in Texas to discuss my bill. 1. They had my name wrong. 2. My social was wrong. 3. They didnt see me. 4. They billed me and and I was seen at the va hospital that diagnosed me and treated me, where they do that at? Money train regional! Im sure there are some good professional healthcare employees there but where there is smoke, there is fire. All those bad reviews are not telling the same lie! In finishing, if you dont like your job there ,quit and let someone who cares about the patients have the job. This is a a leadership problem there.

My sister was brought by ambulance to the ER. Severe abdominal pains. In ambulance she was given an IV port(thats a whole other story...as that particular EMT shouldnt be allowed to start an IV). Once at SRMC she did paperwork then was put in a wheel chair and sat out in the waiting rm. She has known blood clots in her legs(should be elevated when sitting...not dangling for 7(+)hours.). At 5 hrs my Mom asked Nurse how much longer did they think they would be waiting...she was told 6 were ahead of them. She inquired wasnt there a bed somewhere my sister could be put so her legs werent dangling(reminding them again she has active clots in her legs). They said all rms were full(as my Mom stood looking at 2 vacant rms that just needed cleaning)...which pissed (sorry) her off. The Nurse on duty(a male) was very rude...acted like so what...oops! I was caught over the empty rms. She goes back to waiting rm...my sister is freezing...was told by one Nurse/receptionist they werent allowed to give ER waiting paitients a blanket...yet there was a Nurse handing them to others waiting(my Mom snagged her and got a blanket..30 mins later). She couldnt understand why some people got treated differently than others. At 5:30(6 hrs)...with no food or drink(because they told her nothing by mouth till she was seen)...my sister had all she could take..the noise level,no food/water was giving her a headache/migraine. She snagged a Nurse...had them remove the IV port (it was killing her) and they left and went home. My Mom checked 1 more time to see how much longer it was going to be and at that time there was still 6 people ahead of her and they still had not input her information in the computer!!! This place has gone to hell in a hand basket!! When Grady is considered a better hospital than SRMC...then you know things are bad!! I truely hope my sister doesnt develop a clot from the poorly inserted IV. The lack of care given her while she sat there is mind blowing. We will spend the night praying she makes it through till morning as she was too weak to start the process over tonight at another hospital. They got her in the house and to the couch where shes been asleep ever since. My parents arent in the best of health and it was hard on them to see this happening.

This has to be the worst hospital I have ever been to. When we and my wife first entered the hospital around 4am there was a weird odor of urine. Thought maybe someone had an accident so decided to ignore it. Next when my wife went to the back to have her vitals checked the receptionist and the student nurse was having conversation about personal relationships. It wasnt until the nurse who told the student nurse to take my wife vitals and so forth. The student nurse waited about 2 to 3 minutes before moving because he was too busy laughing with the receptionist and watching a video on his phone. He then asked my wife to sit on the patient bed so he could take her blood pressure and check her heartbeat. Keep in mind the patient bed cover was not changed because the paper was still wrinkle from the previous person. We both looked at him and looked at the bed without saying anything. Finally he caught on and sprayed the bed and changed the paper cover. As we went back into the lobby area everyone was saying get comfortable because we will be there for a long time. People started to mentioned that they were there for 12 or 13 hours. Sitting back watching the works i noticed the custodian did not properly clean the lobby restrooms. He placed the wet floor signed without mopping the floor nor cleaning thw toliet. There was also a vomit bag sitting in the lobby floor for sometime and was not removed until close to the shift change. Still waiting in the lobby area they decided to call people names who has left because of the extended long wait. Keep in mind the lobby area maybe have an average of 4 people. Now its almost 11am and still waiting for my wife to get seen. This is ridiculous I sure hope the medical investigator come to investigate. People come to the hospital to get there health treated not to spend half of there day sitting in the lobby area.

Our visit lead use to the ER. my child came in with a severe migraine. 1st: I asked if I could have a cold compress for her migraine, and I was told OK, just give me a minute. 5 minutes turned into 10 minutes which turned into 25 minutes where I had to go ask again about the cold compress. 2nd: the bathroom was dirty, I say someone from house keeping and asked would she place paper towels and seat covers in the bathroom and clean it, once again I was told OK, just give me a minute. 30 minutes went by, so I go and check the bathroom because a girl had to use it, and the my surprise nothing was done. 3rd: I saw a young lady in red/burgundy scrubs and I asked if there was another bathroom, and I was told NO! they tore it up, I asked if there was someplace I could get some papers towels and she said go in there and get you some just after she said. quote until quote ( I suggest you go in there and squat over the toilet. wow! not what I was expecting to here.) hospitals fail to remember that they should be patient oriented. because without the patients you are not needed, you are here because theres a demand and patients get sick and need you, if the patients stop coming, and no longer need your service the demand is over and you lose your job. just need to work on your people skills you need to work on how you talk to people you need to work on how you react and how you work with people you also need to work on time consumption it is the worst:( #I live in the area but Im willing to take the drive to Emory hospital down town. # not so happy parent:( still waiting for the Doctor to come, because the assistant can not help us, she has no recommendations wow.
