My dog had a little encounter with a neighbor dog and ended up inflicting a large bite on the other animal. When I had gotten home, I went to my neighbors house to find out how bad it was and what the next step should be. Seeing the size of the wound, we had all agreed that medical attention was in need and definitely the best thing for the dog. I currently use Banfield Pet Hospital on Rt 59 in Naperville/Aurora area and figured since I have never had a problem with them, we could use the Banfield on Randall Road in Geneva which is closer to our homes. Very friendly service, they took the dog in immediately and informed us that sutures were a definite, but they werent sure the depth of the minor surgery until they dove in. That is completely understandable. So to jump ahead a couple hours, they had called us to let us know that the dog was cleaned, stitched, and ready to see mommy and daddy. I had met the owners at Banfield and took care of the bill at a large sum of $501.00. I thought that was large to begin with but I was happy the dog was good so I didnt complain. The next day the owner had noticed a large discomfort in her dog. She had taken the dog back to banfield to show concern. They had removed a couple of stitches to drain the wound "which the doctor said was not necessary to leave a drain" when she initially sealed up the wound. They had left it open to drain it and had told the owner of the dog to flush it with cold water 3x a day for 20 mins each time. If you ask me, that sounds a little torturous and unsanitary to flush an open wound like that. The following day the owner had to go back to banfield because the leg was swollen again. This time they flushed and bandaged it and said he will be fine. They blamed it on the dog saying he was irritating it. Then the next day, the leg was completely swollen and the dog couldnt sit, stand, lie down or walk with out crying each time. The owner had enough and took her dog to VCA Aurora. They had to open up the wound completely by removing all the stitches. They cleaned out the wound and had to pack it with gauze to let the inside of the wound heal completely. They had stated that the doctor that did the initial cleaning and stitching had been uneducated in the matter of treating large puncture wounds. The wound should have never been sealed shut, it needs to be able to drain which prevents a nasty infection and promotes faster healing. After the inside has already started the healing process and has made great progress, then you are able to go ahead and stitch the outside closed. All said and done, over $1000 spent at this point. There will definitely be a corporate complaint and a canceled credit card payment for the initial $501 i had spent plus the other $100 and change they had put on their credit card. I really regret taking their dog to Banfield for treatment. He didnt deserve any of this, let alone additional pain due to the lack of education from their staff. The doctor, Jenna McCarthy, was more worried about her own pregnancy than the health and well being of my friends dog. Thanks for nothing, b@#ch!

I would not recommend this particular location for any veterinarian or grooming needs. I brought a sick pet in and their first response was to not do anything. That it wasnt worth saving the pet! Really? maybe in their mediocre pay scale they felt they could not afford to take care of a pet or think they are just "Disposable" pieces of material objects that can be replaced. The fact that the animal was in pain and bit a technician is part of what I would call a hazard to your employment. A hazard that goes with the job and should not, in any way deter the Hospital staff from not following up with scheduled appointments. This particular location tried to do exactly that after a crucial test was recommended by the veterinarian to see if my pet was terminal, only to be told a week later they neglected to collect enough blood to run the test and only after I called them for the results. they offered to refund the $80 cost of the test but did not want to see their patient through AND after spending almost $600 on that initial visit to begin with. Extremely poor customer service when I questioned them, (and I am not using the excuse of the customer is always right) the doctor talked over me and then tried to pawn the follow up on a veterinarian who only occasionally works at this location and recommended I take the pet to his usual location 20 miles away! unacceptable practice from a corporate store and Im sure this is not the end of it.

The staff was very nice and made us feel welcome, great room/bed side manner, I just wish the care was as good as the attitudes. I took my dog in multiple times for lameness, after hundreds and hundreds of dollars spent on meds and xrays to be sent out for an expert viewing we took our dog somewhere else and was immediately diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Still have to pay for the wellness plan we signed up for hoping to help offset the costs of finding out why my furbaby wasnt feeling well now on top of all his surgeries and chemo treatment. I called ASPCA before going to the university after the other vet diagnosed and was told that they have many reports of this type of problem with Banfield hospital overall. They said for a healthy puppy it is a good place for general care and shots but that is where it stops according to the nice lady I spoke to. I still have to go for lab work and use them as I am already paying them but they will no longer care for furbabies. Heartbreaking!

I would not recommend making this your veterinary location. We have been taking our dog here for the past 1 year+. We tried to order the yearly heartworm pills for our dog from a website that needed to contact Banfield to get clearance for the purchase. Even though it is the same thing we have bought from Banfield in the past, and a routine medicine given to all dogs every month to prevent heartworms, Banfield demanded we schedule an appointment before we could purchase the medicine again. Well, there is nothing with our dog we just dont want her to get heartworms from a mosquito bite and die, but I guess we need to pay off Banfield with yet another visit before they will sign off on allowing us to do this for our dog. Thanks for nothing, Banfield.

We have 2 dogs that have "wellness" plans. Unfortunately, they dont seem to care when your pet is actually sick or has an emergent /urgent need. This is because they "dont have time" because they need to get out. But dont worry! Youll get to hear them PRETEND to be empathetic - like Susan - and tell you to take them to the ER and spend hundreds of dollars. This is the second time theyve done this and shame on me for giving them a second chance. The first time my dog was getting septic and they didnt care. They said it shouldnt have happened. But here it happens again. This would never happen at a human medical office, it shouldnt happen here either if they actually cared about our pets or their families.
