Still the Absolute WORST If it was possible to give zero stars that would be my response . most disrespectful ER nurses, Ashley and Alexandra and patient advocates, Sandi Lisit-Stein and Vicki Tiller I have met in my life. My advice-- go elsewhere. Insist on it! Patient advocates are too busy to respond in a timely manner and advocate for the patient. Ashley and Alexandra, the ER nurses- extremely rude and uncaring. When the patient asked to use the bathroom, nurse refused to allow the patient to do so. When a bedpan was asked for, Nurse refused, and threatened the patient, stating - no one has to use the bathroom that often! Turned out patient had Urinary incontinence due to cystitis that went undiagnosed at HPH. AND another complication. At other hospitals when a patient advocate or nursing supervisor is requested, someone comes. At HP Hospital, it is up to staff to decide to send for the patient advocate. Do yourself a favor, choose a different ER to go to, You will save yourself much aggravation and ridiculously inflated medical charges. I. E. there is the MISC. Fee for which there is NO explanation.. called standard restocking fee REALLY!! Looking over the reviews, one either gets excellent service or POOR service in the ER Sounds like HP should take a look at their ER department to me. Or just dont go to the ER at night, some staff is awfully crabby and rude, but when it is the attending nurse looking after your loved one and the patient advocate is no where to be found..if one has the choice, instruct the ambulance driver to go to elsewhere

After recently moving to the area, I brought my 3 month old daughter to highland park er upon recommendation from my ped as she was experiencing respiratory difficulties related to RSV. My daughter was admitted to a "mixed" unit with adults. The unit was not a locked pediatric unit, which made me nervous about her safety and additionally the RNs were poorly trained caring for a pediatric population. They did not have the proper equipment for peds (nasal cannulas, high flow equipment, etc). I frequently had to correct suction techniques, they did not pick up on early signs of distress nor did they page the physician when asked. My daughter was completely cyanotic and the nurse still insisted the pulse ox was not calibrating correctly. My daughter ended up bradying down and the nurse ran out of the room screaming"omg" while i administered care to my daughter and pushed the code button. My daughter was then transported to Lurie, where I should have taken her to begin with (lesson learned). I also demanded a transfer of her twin brother at that time. The management from day 1 of admission was poor and too conservative. She needed supportive care to get through the RSV. Its unfortunate that they accept pediatric patients. Do not take your kids there. I am typically a humble person but I have to say, if I was not a RN or someone with medical training to respond in that situation, without a doubt daughter would not be here today.

What a disastrous communication program between and among departments here. The patient NEEDS PT every day that she is here. She fractured her pelvis and the ONLY MEDICAL TREATMENT is physical therapy. Now, they are telling her that she is being discharged today but that she is schedule for PT tomorrow! The rehab facility to which she is going does not do either on Sundays. The patient is 90+ years old and can recover from this with the proper treatment. PT and OT are much less costly than more expensive medical treatment. Why on earth does the medical team not communicate with the PT and OT departments so that this patient, with both Medicare and supplemental coverage, can have therapy scheduled for the days she is in hospital instead of scheduling for a time she wont be here? While the medical help might be OK, weve seen virtually none of it as a pelvic fracture for a 90+ person is not considered a medical event. Rather, the patient simply remains "observational" until they can get them out of here to a rehab center. I find this most unacceptable. If the only treatment is PT for such a patient, then GIVE HER PT DAILY SO SHE CAN RECOVER!!!!

The nurses really seemed like they cared, came to the bedside any time they were buzzed. The PA and doctors/surgeons however, incredibly slow, over 3 hours to give any update on the status of my fiancés stay for observation. I am convinced that they care about their patients, but they have absolutely no regard for the amount of money that visitors have to pay, and taking their sweet time to discharge is ridiculous. Also, the radiologist misinterpreted my fiancé test results and they forced her to stay overnight because of these misinterpreted results. She was assured it was nothing to worry about, but again, incredibly harsh on our wallet.

Everyone in the ER department was SO friendly, caring, and compassionate. Dr. Diane and her PA listened and cared about solving the problem. They were very thorough in diagnosing the problem. The nurses were very attentive and friendly as well. Even the ultrasound technician was very caring. They all acted very professionally, and I felt well taken care of. Thank you!

My recent experience at the emergency room was as pleasant an experience that can be had when you have a deep cut and it requires stitches. Each care provider was pleasant and wanting to help and manage the time and my comfort. I felt in a cocoon of healing. For this I am thankful and grateful. Keep up the great attitudes and customer service.
