My family is heartbroken. We have been bringing all of out pets to this office for several years and have spent a small fortune there because we believed they provided care that was worth the high price. We still have the utmost respect for Dr. Kalivoda, who is highly competent and a true professional. She saved our rabbits life last year, for which we are forever grateful. However, today their least experienced doctor, Jamie Abeta was not only unprofessional in her treatment and behavior of our sick rabbit, but after my fiance told her that she didnt care for the way the dr was behaving, she was refused service and sent away without care. Our rabbit had a sever GI block and smelled pretty bad because of it. When Abeta began to examine the rabbit, she pretended to vomit, making fun of our furry family member who was in a dire medical situation. That was not the behavior of a medical professional, but of a student in her first biology class in grade school. My fiance was already beyond distraught and this was the last thing anybody, much less the so called medical professional who was tasked with saving our beloved pet, should have done. My fiance called her out on this childish and amateur behavior, at which point Abeta claimed she was holding back a sneeze. While there may be two sides to this story, the real issue is that another doctor came into the room, handed to rabbit back to my fiance, and told her to that they were refusing to treat the sick rabbit. What vet in the world would refuse care to a sick animal over a slight personal difference. Nobody at the clinic would speak a further word to my fiance and nobody cared if out sick rabbit lived or died. That is inexcusable. They were perfectly willing to let out pet die over the hurt feelings of the doctor who started the whole issue by behaving immaturely in the first place. I eventually spoke to the owner of the clinic, Dr Sakas, who has a been fine to work with in the past. I asked what had really happened and how this could be remedied. He took a hard line defense of Abeta, blamed everything on my fiance, and offered no apology, even though we had been long time, regular customers. But the real crime here is that none of the vets cared if out rabbit lived or died. I true professional business owner would have admitted that he wasnt there, didnt know what really happened, and made some attempt to remedy the situation. A real healer and caring human being would treated our pet and worried about the disagreement afterwards. Dr Sakas, you have lost very good customers though your actions, but its most important that people know that you and members of your staff dont actually care if peoples pets live or die, as long as your delicate sensibilities are not offended. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Not only will we never return to your establishment, but we will advise the many of friends and family that we referred to you in the past to discontinue seeking treatment at your facility. This medical office does not care about you or the health of your pet. Shame on all of you. Thankfully we rushed out rabbit to another clinic and he was treated and is resting. However, there is a very good chance my rabbit may die today because this heartless office turned him away over a minuscule dispute between a distraught pets mother and a novice veterinarian.

We live too far away from Niles to come there now but for many, many years they were the only vet where we ever took our birds, dogs, etc. Dr. Sakas is knowledgeable, caring and compassionate (as were all of the vets we saw at Niles). Even today (when we have not been clients for many years) Dr. Sakas is willing to take time from his schedule to talk to us on the phone if we have a problem with one of our animals or a question about a treatment recommended by our current veterinarian. Also they have the equipment to do tests on site that other veterinarians need to send out to the lab -- faster results means faster correct treatment. We have been through good times and bad with our animals there and never felt that they were not getting the absolute best care possible. Our thanks for the many, many years of wonderful care that you gave all our critters!

I think Dr. Sakas is an extremely knowledgeable and caring veterinarian. He has taken excellent care of my dogs for a couple years now. One of my dogs was very sick once, refusing to eat and drink. I was extremely worried, but Dr. Sakas treated her and she bounced back to health. My other dog becomes very aggressive when he is ill, growling and biting to get people away from him, but Dr. Sakas is always gentle with him and puts him through the least amount of stress. The receptionists and vet techs are also very sweet to my dogs, who are small dogs who can have a lot of anxiety when taken out of their comfort zone. I truly appreciate the care they receive at Niles Animal Hospital.

We came from Taiwan hoping to find a doctor to diagnose what happens to my male lovebird Papa who often has problems with his feet and balance, and screams when that happens, which has always been heart broken to see. I didnt have the bird with me of course but I showed the people there videos. They were very kind and friendly which meant a lot to me. I had no luck with vets in Taiwan for Papa and I had searched for so long for help because Papa is a very gentle and sweet bird, and I love him so much. I am very happy I found you when I visited Chicago this time. Thank you very much. - Claire (Alexs wife)

As a parrot owner, I can say without hesitation that I am fortunate to have found Dr. Sakas and the Niles Animal Hospital and Bird Clinic. Not only did they save my parrots life (with risky but necessary surgery) but continue to provide outstanding veterinarian care and service so that my Senegal has a good chance to live out her expected life-span healthy and happy. This is the place to go for any bird owner looking for the care and expertise their feathered friend deserves. Fees are very reasonable. The staff is friendly and professional. Its a top-notch practice for all pets.

Dr. Peter Sakas of Niles Animal Hospital is a money-hungry coward who almost killed my beloved dog Mallie. He prescribed Metacam, forgetting he had previously prescribed Rimadyl. Combining the two is the equivalent of ingesting ARSENIC. For weeks, she lay dying in excruciating pain. Also, a shout-out to Melissa, his vet tech from HELL. While shaving Mallie for a surgery I later learned she didn’t even need, she razor burned her so severely that her hair never grew back. My biggest regret in life is taking my precious Mallie to Niles Animal Hospital.

i will always bring my birds here to Dr. Sakas, he is kind and most of all very knowledgeable and interested in helping with a sick or non sick bird. I have been taking my birds here since the early 1990s. Unfortunately my vet (dog vet) told me to go to Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal in Oak Park, IL becasue at that time it was closer to me and i spent a lot of time and money there for nothing and had to end up going back to see Niles An. Hsptl to help our bird.. In short only take your birds to Dr Sakas who is wonderful and worth the drive.
