My son was referred to this clinic for his acne; we were seen by Doctor Eric Harlan. The Dr. didnt know if we were returning for a checkup or if my son was a new patient. The nurse clarified we were new patients. He then asked what we have tried in the past. The nurse started reading the list of medications that have been tried. It was apparent he started prescribing his normal, regime of medications for all acne patients. I explained that the medications he was prescribing is medication we have already tried. He insisted one of the medications was new on the market. I told him that the medication he was prescribing was something we could have done locally. He snapped at me and told me that there are no dermatologists in my town. I explained that it didnt take a dermatologist to prescribe the medication he was prescribing. I also explained the conversation with our local doctor was for Accutane. I mentioned driving over an hour felt like a waste of time for this treatment because he was prescribing medications weve already tried. He then tells me that he treats many people who come from a lot further distances than myself. So, with our less than a 5 minute visit up, he left. I was shocked that he didnt touch my son or take an up close look! He didnt even take the time to remove the hair from my sons forehead to look at the acne nor did he ask him about the acne on his back or his chest. The nurse then gave me two papers for two prescriptions and let me know 1 prescription was called in to our local pharmacy. The other two prescriptions would need to be sent to out of State pharmacies. She assures me that the pharmacy will contact us but if we didnt hear from them within a couple days we should contact them. Shortly after leaving the appointment, the out of State pharmacy left a voicemail stating they were processing the prescription. Additionally, the nurse made it sound as if one of the prescriptions was completely new and the reason why it had to be processed out of state is because the local pharmacy would charge me hundreds of dollars and it would be free through this pharmacy. I headed to the local pharmacy to pick up the 1 prescription. I asked the pharmacist about this new prescription drug, onexton. He was able to look it up and told me it was not a new prescription but an old prescription that had been compounded slightly different and renamed so they can charge more money for it. I ended up waiting 7 business days for the other 2 prescriptions. I contacted Dr. Harlans office to inquire about the prescriptions. The receptionist stated she had no idea where the prescriptions were and gave me two numbers that I could follow up on. I ended up calling one of the pharmacies in Texas. They stated the prescription was actually transferred to another pharmacy in Texas; my Insurance did not have a contract with them as a provider, so they transferred it to another pharmacy. They gave me the name of the other pharmacy. This pharmacy stated they needed a co-payment via credit card in order to process the prescription. I gave them my credit card information. I then proceeded to call the next number for the other pharmacy, which was in Arizona. The representative I spoke with there stated they received the order for the prescription but they did not have my mailing address or my insurance information. I updated her and ultimately heard the prescription is on back order and they had no idea when it would be in. She then proceeded to tell me I could wait 14 days to see if it comes; otherwise, they could text me in 14 days and if the order doesnt come in, I could cancel at that time. She then gives me an alternative of filling the prescription at my local pharmacy. I was shocked to hear this and told her I wanted to cancel the prescription and I would fill it locally. Ultimately, I believe Dr. Harlan is a poor medical provider, with extremely poor people skills and is profiting from sending prescriptions out of state. I looked online at reviews for the out of State pharmacies they have the same 1 star I gave here!

Dr. Eric Harlan did an amazing job with my daughter when I brought her in to have multiple warts removed. My daughter was extremely scared because she has never been to a dermatologist before and would not let anyone get near her. Dr. Harlan was patient and very relaxed as he coached her up to the point where she was comfortable and he was able to remove all of them. Afterwards, she said, Dad, that wasnt a big deal at all. Also, all of nurses and staff members at Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery Center were wonderful and made us feel welcome. I would highly recommend anyone I know who has any dermatology issues to call Dr. Harlan and his great team.
