I originally thought that this vet would be a good fit for my family (except for the fact that the vet kept cursing by saying "Jesus") however at the time I needed them most they failed me. We moved to the area recently and they were recommended by a neighbor. It was my familys wish that our pet be euthanized in our home. We knew he was getting close and had discussed it with the vet. When the time actually came they made it seem like they were doing me a favor by "squeezing me in" the next day. They gave me one time slot. That or nothing. I felt like my dog was not suffering and this, though not ideal, was OK. I would like to mention that I was offered to drive him over to the vet and they could perform the euthanasia in the car, so I would not have to bring him inside, under the pretense if he liked car rides. Absolutely ridiculous. As he progressively got worse through the evening I called to ask for a sedative to get him through calmly until his scheduled euthanasia the next day. The secretary had informed me that they would not do this and when I asked to speak with the vet I was put on hold for over 7 minutes. Finally the vet got on the phone and informed me that if my dog was that bad off where we needed to give him a sedative then I should bring him in. I reminded her that this was not what our plan had been and that there was no way we were coming into the vet because he did not like going to the vet and I did not want his last breath to be in the place he like the least. I was then told that if he was really out of it then he would not know the difference. I told her that he was not that "out of it" and he was not suffering. She then asked how did I know that he was not suffering. At this point she was being confrontational and and accusatory. Mind you my dog is dying and I should be spending precious time with my dog and family not having this absurd discussion with the vet. I then told the vet that this was not the plan of care I had discussed with them. I was lucky enough to find a veterinarian who was able to accommodate our needs during such a trying time on very short notice. It ended up being such a blessing and my boy was able to die in peace in our home and spend his last evening with us eating junk and having his children read him stories. We were able to put him to sleep in his own home on his favorite rug after my kids went to bed for the night. It was calm and peaceful. When I called back to inform the vet that I would not be bringing in my dog and that I was cancelling his appt for them to come to my home the next day they just said, "OK". Shame on them for treating me and my dog the way they did on his death bed. They made me question myself as a pet owner and I find that despicable. I did not want this situation to interfere with my grieving so I have waited a week to write this review. I am upset by this but am now grateful that things ended up the way they did. When I discussed in home euthanasia months ago with them, all they had to say was we are not able to provide that service however there are others that can. Would not have been a problem. Now I dont want anyone to have to go through what my husband and I went through. Dont spend your time with these folks. They are misleading and are terrible caregivers. And as a registered nurse I feel I can say they have no business "caring" for loved ones.

Ive been taking my cats to OSSVH since 1998 - even when I had vets that were located a lot closer to where I lived. Ive never had a bad experience with staff or the veterinarians. If any procedure needs to be done (dental or removal of a tumor) theyve been wonderful at calling me to see how my pet was doing. Their take home instructions are clear and if you do have any questions, they are always more than happy to answer them. About 4 years ago, I added a dog to my fur family and he is actually excited when we go in for his exams or for his baths. I trust the staff completely and know that my animals are in good hands - when my previous dog walker was away, I would take him there and board him for the day. He always came home happy and tired! As for the price? They are worth every cent! This past February, I had to put one of my cats down. My vet was off that day, but dug herself out (during our snow storm) and met me at the clinic. I cant imagine having to go through something so painful and difficult without her. Do I recommend people to this office? YES!

I have been the rescue coordinator for scotties in the Wash Metro area for over 16 years and I have pets that I foster and that I own. I work with OSSVH for both the rescue dogs and my personal pets. Competency, communication, efficiency and compassion are the factors I look at to rate my relationship with my vet. OSSVH gets an A+ in all categories. They are folks who are ready to be a partner with me in saving animals that might otherwise be forgotten. The staff at OSSVH has demonstrated to me, time and again, that they have the knowledge, resources and caring to help me in my goal to restore my rescue dogs to good health so that they can be placed in forever homes and to help me keep my pets healthy and happy. I have been treated with professionalism and kindness in all of my dealings with this organization. I would highly recommend their services, with no reservations, to my adopters, friends and anyone who wants the best medical care for a pet.

Great vets! They take the time to listen to what I have to say about my dogs. They also understand that sight hounds are a little different than your other dog types and take that into account. Furthermore, they understand that as someone that shows dogs, my dogs must remain intact so they do not pressure me to spey/neuter my animals. They understand that I will elect to do so when a particular dogs show/breeding career have ended. Speaking of breeding, you simply cannot find a better facility for reproductive veterinary assistance! I have found that every vet and vet tech I have dealt with at OSSVH to be pleasant and knowledgeable. The only improvement I would make is if they would bill directly to my pet insurance (Trupanion). They will submit claims for me, but I must pay my bill at time of service and then be reimbursed by the insurance.

desk staff was attempting to be VERY helpful. vet was nearly 2 HOURS late!! i even called before i left the house to be sure she was on time and she was clearly NOT. was very unhappy to find that i was not made aware ahead of time that they only will give a 1 year rabies shot. after speaking with many health professionals about the differences in vaccines, i have decided that the 1 year vaccine, except in a few cases, is a rip off ot get clients in once a year and charge an exam fee. i only take my cats in when theyre ill or something seems to be wrong. i had to pay fees on top of the exam fee and rabies vaccine fee-they charged me for needle disposal! NEVER have i seen a vet charge needless fees! it would never occur to me to ask over the phone if this would be the case. Horrible vet service! A true sham.
