I called Dighton-Rehoboth Animal Hospital yesterday to schedule an appt because my 4 year old cat hadnt eaten in 3 days, except for about a teaspoon or 2 of dry food the night before. I arrived @ 2:15pm, the teenager behind the desk brought me and my cat into the examination room where she proceeded to drag my cat out of the carrier and onto the scale. I was a little angry at first, but then quickly realized that I do not work with animals and perhaps this is the way they do things. Doctor comes in and is not very pleasant and barely had a personality. While another girl forcefully held my cat’s neck down to the table, Doc checked his mouth, belly, butt, temp, etc. and could find nothing. She suggested doing an abdominal xray and some bloodwork to check for anything internal because animals sometimes get into things that they shouldn’t and perhaps he swallowed something that he shouldn’t have. She told me the base cost for xrays and labs would be $400 plus any other charges or fees incurred during his visit. I almost passed out, but I agreed because my cat was sick and I needed answers to ease my mind. They told me he would be placed under anesthesia and that they would call me later on that evening if he didn’t need surgery. OK, WHAT? Lets just do the xrays first please.. Doc calls me in to discuss findings and she shows me two images. (Note how I said two images—she charged me for three plus a reading) Doc proceeds to tell me that my cat’s heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and all other organs look clear. Due to my past employment history in the ED and Radiology, I can interpret simple images even though I did not disclose this information to the doc. She pointed to poop in his intestines, and advised that he had some in there… and then pointed to his stomach and said, “I can’t rule out that this material in his stomach is not a foreign body, so you have two options. 1. Is to leave him here overnight for monitoring and we will conduct a repeat examination and xrays in the morning, or 2. You can bring him to the referral and have an abdominal ultrasound done to see if he needs surgery.” Okay, as previously mentioned I have knowledge in emergency medicine and radiologic imaging and therefore can read an xray. The material the Doc pointed to in my cats stomach was the 1 or 2 tablespoons of cat food he had eaten the night before. I told her that he had small amounts of food and she stated that she could not rule that out and was worried about a foreign object in his stomach and therefore recommended further testing. Manipulation at its finest! Assuming a patient is uneducated in medicine is about as ignorant as you can get. I proceeded to tell her that I have a third option, and that option is bringing my baby home. I decided to leave AMA and was required to sign a consent form before they could suck more money out of me. Doc tells me that even though she couldn’t find anything she is going to send him home with antibiotics. She also tells me not to be alarmed if I notice he is missing fur on his front arm and the front of his neck/chest just below his mouth. When I asked why, she stated that they drew the blood from his neck and placed the IV catheter in his arm. Is it medically necessary to draw blood from a neck even though you can get a line in the arm? When he was neutered the vet did NOT shave any parts of his body... so why was it necessary to shave him for an xray? Long story made short, they upcharge their pricing tremendously and don’t tell you about the additional charges until you check out. $706.17 for an office visit, a couple of xrays, an abx, and bloodwork… oh, and the bloodwork was only a CBC and chem profile, not a full workup. I am extremely dissatisfied with the way they treated my cat, their lack of keeping me informed and also their upselling. If the care provided was exceptional, I would not complain about the expensive visit. However, they could not be any more careless with my kitty and I am worried how they practice behind closed doors. Oh, and my cat ate an entire bowl when we got home...

Dr. Bruzzi came recommended to me by another patient of his. I live 35 minutes away but made the trip. My dog has terminal colon cancer and my previous vet suggested two options- surgery that was incredibly expensive and I couldnt afford it or make my pet comfortable for death. Dr. Bruzzi is easy going but also professional. He was able to do the surgery for 1/2 the cost that I was given by previous vet. He made no false promises on outcome but laid out my different options and let me choose. He debulked the tumor and it extended my dogs life, happily, going on 2 years now. He was originally given months. Though we are nearing the end now, the countless memories given to my family over these 2 years with Cosby because of a talented affordable veterinarian, is priceless. Dr. Bruzzi & his staff are very friendly, honest & reliable. They have great hours, emergency care and they care about your pets. Totally worth the trip. Thank you Dr. Bruzzi!! Youre a very special human.

Do not recommend: a very commercialized place, selling all kinds of products in addition to medical services. refused to get a heart worm prescription from petsmart pharmacy (a certified pharmacy) simply because I was not using their heart worm drugs.

For the last 10 years I have taken my animals to Dighton-Rehoboth Animal Hospital. I recently brought into our family a eight week old French bulldog. The staff know him by name already. As well as he knows them.

They are compassionate and professional. I just wish theyd have a separate area for dogs and cats. This adds unnecessary stress to a stressful situation.
