Ive had problems with my teeth my whole life. So when I went to a Parkside Dental in Back Bay for the first time, I was expecting the worst. What I got was worse than I expected. They basically told me that my teeth were hopeless, and my best bet would be to go to Tufts Dental School to try and save money on fillings and an implant. They also mentioned I should do it soon, before the infection in my tooth spread to my brain and killed me. Thanks. A thoughtful consultation, Im sure, but not really what I wanted to hear. I went to Tufts dental where they charged me $85 for a consultation, which was simply setting up an appointment. Thanks. So, I spoke to a coworker who happens to be Doctor Ians brother. I forwarded him my x-rays, and he called me on the spot and made an appointment. A year and half later and my mouth is fixed. I have cleanings every four months and get nothing but good news. I use a high fluoride toothpaste recommended to me by Dr. Ian and his hygienists, and it really has made a difference in mitigating the dental problems I was saddled with. Dr. Ian took care of a bunch fillings for me, and Lynda has been enormously helpful working with my insurance and with me on scheduling payment. The biggest work was a dental implant, which terrified me at first, but Dr. Ian was extremely professional and informative in explaining the entire process up front, telling me what to expect, and always being available to answer questions. The tooth that was hurting so badly that I couldnt chew with it has been replaced by a perfect implant. I sometimes forget its even there, since after three months it feels like Ive had it my whole life. As someone who has had a lot of dentists, the one thing that sets Dr. Ian apart more than any other is his eagerness to explain procedures in copious detail (if you want him to, of course). He answers questions and provides consultation thoughtfully and respectfully. This isnt a "sausage factory" practice, so to speak. If youve ever had issues trusting doctors or dentists, or if you just want to know that youll receive excellent work and care, front to back, then I couldnt recommend McLaughlin Family Dentists enough.

Before going to McLaughlin Family Dentists, I was terrified and nervous about getting my wisdom tooth extracted. Mind you that this was my first major operation I had done. I hadnt been to the dentist in a number of years, so I was very uncertain about how the operation would go. I did a lot of research, namely to see how painful the procedure would go. I talked to a number of people who gave me advice and suggestions, and also read reviews to brace myself for what to come. Even with all the research and advice from others, I was still anxious about the operation. On the day of the operation, I nervously made my way to my appointment. The appointment went well. I discovered that sometimes, you just have to experience things for yourself. The operation was not as tragic as I had thought. Dr. Ian and people at the office made me feel really comfortable and alleviated that anxiety I was experiencing. They answered all the questions that I had been researching for weeks, and assured me that the operation was not that bad. The operation was not pleasant by any stretch of the imagination, but it was bearable and not as painful as I had expected. Dr. Ian made small conversation with me during the operation which rested my mind. After several uncomfortable minutes of drilling and cutting through my tooth, the operation was complete. There was minor pain and some bleeding, but overall I successfully made it through my first wisdom tooth extraction. Dr. Ian explained the cleaning and healing process very carefully and I managed to recover after a few days. I only took/needed one day off of work. The healing took a little more than a week, but was feeling so much better afterwards. I really enjoyed and appreciate all the people at McLaughlins! They were simply awesome!

I have had a lot of bad luck with dentists. My previous dentists did poor fillings that would need to get repaired just a few weeks later. The work they did was often painful and they were always confusing with their post care instructions. Dr. Ian McLaughlin was a welcome change to all of that. Dr. Ian made me feel right at home! He sat me down and explained everything that was going to happen from beginning to end. His assistants were nice as well! The work was practically painless! I had two extractions and I was shocked when he told me he was done. I hadn’t felt a thing! Dr. Ian was also very thorough with the post care instructions for my extracted teeth. I had heard horrors about dry socket and Dr. Ian’s instructions helped me avoid that completely! Here’s where Dr. Ian really impressed me. After I got home from his office, I got a call. It was Dr. Ian! He called to check in and told me that he had noticed a couple cavities that would need work as soon as possible! He saved me tons of money from having to get a root canal or cap! Dr. Ian treated me like I really mattered. His staff was great and on top of all of that he was also very affordable. Lynda in his office was great! She helped me understand the cost of the work and explained how much my insurance company would cover. Marybeth was also great! She set me up with a follow up appointment and was very nice! I recommend Dr. Ian McLaughlin’s office to everyone!

My entire family goes to McLaughlin Family Dentists. I have had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Ian and Dr. Stephen. It is always a pleasant experience going here. I have never had a dentist that cared more than Dr. Ian and his staff. Every time I have an appointment Misty gives me a courtesy call the day before so I dont miss my appointment. When I walk into the office I am greeted by a happy staff. They are always on time for appointments so I never have to wait. Its just me waiting to be seen, not five other people. I would recommend him to everyone of all ages. I broke my crown and had to be seen by Dr. Stephen and couldnt believe how great he was as well. I presume that is how they have been able to stay open all of these years. I have a family member that has been considering getting dentures. After telling her how good they have treated me she is now going to look into being seen by them as well. I spoke to Dr. Ian about getting braces. He knew that I wanted to get them but I had fit the price into a budget. So Dr. Ian agreed to make the price of them cost efficient for me and for him. With that being said I am going to get my new braces today and I couldnt be more grateful for McLaughlin Family Dentists and the staff for making all of this so easy.

I am normally hesitant to write a review after first visit.. but Ian really loves what he is doing. He actually explains and shows problems and issues and whats the best fix it. My past dentist experiences was horrible. It was more about how to get more money out of this guy before he leaves the office. None of that "i am a doctor ,bow to me attitude".. its EXTREMELY difficult to find such professionals. If i move to California I think Id rather fly here to visit Ian than poke around neighborhood. Ill definitely update this review in case I am mistaken but i kind of really doubt it. I think i can trust my dental health to ian...and if u work for him.. consider yourself very lucky. Try to be credit card/cash payer. . All that insurance burocraCy is a lot of hustle.. this guy deserves hard cash. Fees are very very reasonable
