I’ve read all of the reviews here and am perplexed a bit, because the ones with less than 3 stars don’t seem to be the same Bennett Optometry I’ve been coming to for decades. Perhaps I’m fortunate because I approached Bennett Optometry in the mindset of being a partner to them for my own vision-care needs. And that partnership style relationship has definitely paid off for me. Dr. Bennett and his top-notch staff have been caring for my vision needs for nearly 20 years. I travel more than 70 miles (round-trip) to stay under Bennett Optometry’s vision care. Tried to get comparable care closer to where I live, but it took only one visit to realize that quality care is well-worth the drive to Ann Arbor. As an organizational consultant who has over 50 years of professional experience I naturally tend to “instinctively” assess a business operation whenever I interface with its staff. And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve had an abundance of experience interfacing with health care providers. Bennett Optometry is in my “Top Tier” and probably the highest rated of any health-care operation I’ve encountered. Each of the many staff members of Dr. Bennett’s team are highly professional, very personable, and most courteous (they introduce themselves, explain their role and responsibilities, and keep you informed about procedures as they are performing them). Michele, Nicole, Ashley, Brian, Dr. “L”, along with Dr. Bennett are the ones I interact with most. They project a genuine sense of caring and helpfulness about me as an individual. And they always are ready to “go the extra mile” when it comes to making sure my vision needs are delivered accurately and timely. I have never felt like “just another number” going through the system. And Dr. Bennett, himself, is a delight to work with. A wry sense of humor, a very laid-back and sort of “down-home” manner puts me at ease immediately. And he – as well as his staff – are thorough, efficient, and most effective. Like I said, I tried changing doctors many years ago, and quickly learned what a great value I had with the total-quality care at Bennett Optometry. And when I visit other health-care providers I’m continually reminded how “top-tier” Dr. Bennett and his staff really are. Truly a reflection of a smoothly run organization with a dedicated and customer-first oriented staff and culture. It is one of the few medical care providers that I recommend without reservation … despite what some others may have perceived.

The Green Road location for Bennets is sort of the big box car dealership of eyecare providers. I went there to get glasses very recently. I had my exam at their main st location a few months ago. Your experience here will mostly depend on who you interact with. I dont know everybodys name so I am going to just describe who I interacted with. The middle aged Caucasian doctor (I think Dan is his name, he didnt introduce himself) is ok, but kinda pushy and uninterested. He seems to be out of touch with the customer who works hard for not a lot of pay, who has to save up for a while to afford good glasses. The African American doctor guy seems very helpful and more connected with the lowly customer. The middle aged Caucasian woman who works the front desk is abrasive, pushy, and loud. Just what you DONT want someone with her job to be. The two other people who work at the front desk have been quiet and helpful, and I like interacting with them. Also when my glasses came in, I got the call that they were ready to be picked up at 7:30 pm. Obviously the mail came earlier in the day, so why did they wait until a half hour before close to tell me my glasses were in? Minor but another example of how they dont think like a customer. Overall this place is pretty unpleasant to visit. As soon as you walk in the door the lady at the desk literally barks at you demanding a reason for your entry to their establishment. The only reason I go to Bennetts is because they carry a couple actually high quality lines of frames (read: not made in china) that most other places dont have. I wish that more optometry places like the mom and pop place I went to as a kid hadnt been pushed out of business by these bigger less attentive places who get the contracts with the good glasses suppliers.

I had limited options when comes to safety glasses (insurance, appointment etc.), so I went to their Green Rd site. I dont want to comment on the frame/lenses options, price and service, which have been covered by other reviews. I want to emphasize the quality of the lenses. Therere markers at the far right corner and the inner corners of my glasses. Although you cant see them when you wear it, it indeed looks ugly from outside! It gets several scratches after a month of use, it supposed to be anti-scratch. Now I am not confident with their claim of shatter resistance! A follow-up review about the service: They made an appointment last year for my next glasses. I obviously do not learn the lesson, and try to bet on other lenses, so I keep the appointment. They mailed me postcard to remind me the appointment. I missed their phone calls due to the office number I left to them, and they called me after hour calls and I was out of town. They booked the slot to other custom 3 days before the real appointment! Does it suppose to be 24/48 hours rule here?

I only went here because I was desperate for an appointment during the holiday season and it would have been better just to wear my old glasses and deal with the headache. They told me my insurance didnt cover a free contact exam--not true! Their willingness to refund my money when I showed them my contract is the only thing that saves them from 1 star. However, once they did, their attitude changed completely. When I had been paying for out of contract lenses, they made a big deal of their "excellent" customer service, careful attention to how the contact fit in my eye, follow-up appointments, etc. However, once I was getting contacts that were covered by my plan, they didnt even look at the way they fit me (even though Ive never worn this model before). They didnt schedule a follow-up meeting and they didnt even bother to put my boxes in one of their tote bag things to carry out (the way my out of contract lenses had come). Unbelievable lack of caring and attention to the bottom line.

I wish there was a button before "Poor-Fair". My wife and I did an expensive eye exam here. They did not provide the prescription to us. We came back to their office twice, and called their office once, in the past four weeks, just for getting the prescription of contact lens. When we came to the office, we are told the prescription had to be mailed to us. When we called, the staff told us they would mail out it personally, if not done so already. Now it has been more than 30 days, and we are still waiting for receiving our prescription. I have no idea what is going on, but can you believe it? We have not still received anything from Bennett, provided the fact that our location is within walking distance to Bennett, and that is the reason we chose Bennett. Now stay away from here, even it is your next door. Otherwise, pain
