I want to start this review off by stating I have NEVER IN MY LIFE dealt with any individual in a professional position like Becki Wolters, the ALLEGED "patient Relations Coordinator" at Holland Hospital. I called Becki last month in good faith, and in response to a letter I had received FROM HER, stating the hospitals willingness to consider my account for a payment plan under their financial aid program. I called Becki and stated to her, that instead of applying for any form of relief through financial assistance, I would agree to pay $100.00/month towards my $989.00 bill until it was paid off, IF and I repeat IF it was agreed by the hospital that they would not only accept the payment plan but that my account would not be reported to the credit bureaus. It had been sent to their collections department, but had not been sent to collections. The entire reason I had called personally to set this up, was to avoid any negative reporting while showing my willingness to settle this account by making a substantial monthly payment. Becki put me on hold to speak to a billing manager. She came back on line with me and 100% AGREED TO MY REQUEST. She said the $100.00 payment was acceptable AND that as long as I made the payments each month, MY ACCOUNT WOULD NOT BE REPORTED TO THE CREDIT BUREAUS. She then gave me an address to their accounts payable/receivable department in Detroit, MI. I IMMEDIATELY sent my first $100.00 payment in. Within 2 weeks I was notified by the credit bureaus that the account WAS IN FACT, reported. Becki Wolters had LITERALLY lied to me. When I attempted to contact Becki upon notification of the negative report, I could not reach anyone for THREE DAYS. I left multiple messages. When Becki finally returned my call, she actually had the nerve to tell me she never said the account wouldnt be sent to collections. She stated she only said the $100.00 payments would be acceptable. I have LITERALLY never been so blatantly lied to by an individual in her position. She then told me that if I argued this matter with anyone else, that it would just be a "he said she said" situation. Basically stating she would further lie to her superiors, and imply that I was a lier. I have worked HARD to maintain a good credit score. This report just destroyed it. What is amazingly unbelievable is that I had agreed to settle my account balance and make payments. They were going to receive their money! I had shown my willingness to do so by sending in my $100.00 payment. This is a reflection on the entire hospital. The person HEADING the "patient relations" department is a bold face lier. They burned me over $100.00 instead of getting the entire amount paid. There are few things that make a person more of a coward, than to lie. And it is even compounded when a person in Beckis position would like to a PATIENT. I know my review will not really keep anyone from using the services of Holland Hospital. I realize that. I know that my review will not have an effect on their bottom line as they are a multi million dollar entity. But what is right is right. And when a human being such as Becki takes the time to lie to a patient such as she did; it needs to be put out there. Id like to hope this doesnt happen to another patient, but as long as a person like her is employed and as long as she is willing to LIE in this manner, it is likely to happen again. Just look at their average rating; a 2.8. Wow. And all this could have been avoided had they just allowed me to make payments I had AGREED TO PAY. I have been attempting to call back to speak to someone in administration and they wont even forward my calls.

It is a real bad idea to go to the Holland Hospital Emergency Room if you have any kind of problem with your back. I checked in there letting the input person know that I thought I had a herniated disk in my back, I was to the point that I could hardly walk. The only reason I went there was I previously had hip replacement there and if there were complications with that my doctor would be available. After examination (not even by a doctor) and some medication for pain I was told I possibly had some type of muscular problem, was given exercise sheets, suggested that I see my hip doctor and was offered a prescription for pain. I was there less than an hour, left there knowing nothing more than when I arrived and was billed a total of about $1,200. I complained about the Doctors bill and the Emergency Room bill. The doctor did respond to my complaint and removed his charges more less telling me this is not the place to treat a back problem like this. Why wasnt I told this when I was checking in?? When leaving the hospital I knew the treatment plan they set me up with was going no where and would just cost me more out of pocket expense with the insurance I have. I managed to get an appointment at OAM . When showing up there the doctor examined me, called for an immediate MRI due to certain symptoms I had. The MRI showed a massive extrusion at L3, I was in extremely bad shape. I have complained to Holland Hospital and even offered them settlement on their final bill, they have taken me to court and their collection attorney duped me getting a settlement prior even to the pre-trial meeting with some procedure move. I have been in business for almost 30 years, when I have a dissatisfied customer I get them taken care of. Having had 2 hip replacements there and making sure all the bills were taken care of you would think they would work with me a little on something like this. I am going to pay this but I am a dissatisfied customer.

I have gone to Holland Hospital for care during most of my life. Are they perfect? No. However, they are still my hospital of choice. The food is great (for hospital food), the staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and most of them are private, the atmosphere is relaxed (by that I mean the staff doesnt appear uptight and theres no craziness just for the sake of it -- better atmosphere for healing). Ive given birth three times there, and the Boven Birth Center is fantastic. The facilities are always updated so it feels modern and well-maintained. In comparison, I have had family admitted into Butterworth (Spectrum Health) Hospital several different times -- what a unpleasant place to be in comparison to Holland. You have to fight for a private room (otherwise you literally are packed like sardines with other patients -- even the staff has a hard time moving around, let alone family members). The staff is overworked and rude; the atmosphere is not relaxing -- very uptight and pushy culture. As with ANY medical facility, you have to be your own advocate. Healthcare workers are human. Ive had issues, but Ive had more positive experiences than negative ones. As for the Lakeshore Health Partners not referring outside their network (as referenced in a previous review), Ive not had that experience. Ive asked for certain referrals outside their network and have never experienced a problem getting one. Were referred to Spectrum specialists quite often -- its not an issue.
