DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS VET!! There are plenty of competent vets in the city of Springfield, and yes...Carlson Pet Hospital is one of them. However, their prices are absolutely absurd. I took my cats there for 2 years before realizing I was being completely ripped off. People say you pay for expertise. Its complete BS. Its just an excuse to charge $40 just to have your pet looked at. They dont care about animals. The vet is a really good salesman. She will tell you things and not let you speak to make you think she is selling you on things you need. When ultimately, she is not looking out for the animals best interest but instead her own. The staff is completely incompetent as well! I was charged for several things I did not have done to my pets and they looked over it a couple times before completing it. I had to go back in and ask them to reverse the transaction and their excuse was "Sorry, I dont usually work Wednesdays". That is not professionalism for a vet that is supposed to charge $40 for a pet check up. I work in sales and know several vets here in town and asked what they think of the Carlson vet and all of them said it was a great pet hospital back when their father (who originated the establishment) was alive. After he passed away, his daughter took over and has been running the place like a Nazi. She is about sucking all the money out of everyone she can. BEWARE and do not go to this pet hospital!!

I had a bad expierence there as well we purchased frontline from them for both my dogs and cats it posioned them all !!! I had to take them to a ER hospital to have them treated. I normally buy k-9 advantix just so happens they do not sell it there and the receptionist said it was toxic to cats frontline was better lol! Called carlson the receptionist there was so damn rude if I was a lesser person I would have invited her out to the parking lot! She said it was not thier problem as they just sell it I said so if it is a bad batch and you continue to sell it then you should be responsible it came from your vet office! I spoke with jason he is the clinic director got my money and made him put in a call to front line they compensated for the money I paid for thier product which will never happen again! I had to threaten them with a attorney before I got anywhere with them it is really sad that people get into vet medicine but all they can see is the dollar signs I have my dogs treated at a vet in ava little ways to drive but the vet is great and the rates are half of what they are here. I had to get my dogs rabies shots here they want a 43.00 fee in ava it is just $9 for the shot no office visit fee saved me over $133 dollars! I wish you luck in spreading the word they really need to hire people that care about the outcome of the animals instead of the dollars that can be made off it.

Brief Complaint: Dr. Carlson at Carlson Vet Hospital is not capable of handling all the pets that she is allowing come in for treatment. This was evident when my cat sat from 8am – 530pm in a cage in pain and dying. He was not examined or blood tested until after 5pm which showed he was dying. Although I explained Sebastian layed in a pool of blood when I checked on him in the morning, nothing was done until (like I said) 5pm. Her and her staff claim she was in Emergency surgery day; if this is the case, than they should not have allowed me to keep my pet there. I refuse to pay my bill from April 6th, 2010 of $130.00 – the care given was disgusting and my pet suffered because they were too busy and took on too much. Not to mention..I called approximately 10 times that day with NO answers. Not until 5pm was I called and not until 5:15pm was I even able to finally speak to the doctor. She is not compassionate - she called me the day after Sebastian died and said that if I did not pay my bill she would send it to collections. She is in this for only the money! She didnt take responsibility for her and her offices mistakes. That office has horrible communication skills! I have filed a complaint with the State of Missouri - Division of Professional Registration. Brittany for Sebastian.

The front office staff is incompetent and lack basic organization and customer service skills. I have had multiple poor experiences. On one occasion, I took my pet for treatment of heartworms. After dropping him off at 7am I was called in the afternoon to be informed they "didnt realize he was there for heartworm treatment and failed to start the treatment early enough" (it was the only reason he was there). I also had made an appointment 2 months in advance for rabies vaccination and teeth cleaning and showed up to be informed that the appointment was only for the rabies vaccination and that they couldnt perform the teeth cleaning because they were too booked up (I took days off work for both these occasions). On another occasion, they confused my dog with the one in the next room and started treating him as that one and vice versa (they tried to take a second uncomfortable "anal float" from my pet until I stopped them and the mix-up was discovered). There was never any apology from the staff. Just a "you can re-schedule" or "oops". The front office staff has never been professional nor provided customer service at an acceptable level.

This is my first review and I hope that conveys how important this message is. I have been taking my cat to carlson pet hospital for a while now (4 years) I have had no problems other than it being a little pricey, and the staff seeming a bit like monday all of the time. Until now. I had taken my cat in because he was biting his fur and scratching non stop. I had done some treatments at home and ultimately decided to take him in. He had similar problems due to a flea allergy but it wasnt nearly as bad. I havent had fleas all winter and now they tell me its the same thing ( i really mean it when i say this: Not a flea in my house). They put him on a steroid shot and he is STILL SCRATCHING like crazy. I was so confused as to why they wouldnt consider anything else, and that it had to be a flea allergy. My poor cat is still suffering and now I wait for a process of elimination which I understand is, wait while my cat is still in pain. No thanks, Im going to a different vet for relief. I think this vet would be fine with regular check-ups but is just another hospital gobbled up by : heres this medication. Lets see what happens!

We have been coming here for about two years (for shots and annual check ups only). My dog started feeling better the day after I made an appointment to get him checked out, so I called to ask the receptionist if I should still come in, and she told me it was great that he was feeling better, and if he seemed to be in normal health, I could save my money and she would cancel the check up for me. Maybe they do try to get you to buy a few extra things, but thats what all businesses do to try and make money. They only try to up-sell me on the more expensive preventative medication (heartworm, fleas, etc) and I just kindly say no thanks, then go buy my own online or in pet stores for cheaper. Theyve never charged me for something my dog didnt get or need. Also, $30-50 is a very average price for a pet check up at any vet, even without any treatment. Again, its how they make money for their time spent with your pet, and is to be expected anywhere. If I start having negative experiences, Ill be sure to re-post.
