Had 3 trips to this vet... 1st - Got dog spaded, dog came down with an infection afterwards, real bad coccidia, which involves random bleeding out of her butt, could barely move. Dont know if it was their fault but nevertheless it sucked. Had to bring my dog to different late-night emergency vet to diagnose and give drugs. 2nd - Dog was itching itself nonstop rubbing its skin raw, brought it to the doc. For a scheduled appointment I spent at least an hour in the waiting room and exam room all for the vet to tell me that my intial inclination was the most likely reason and just give her a steriod/antihistamine type shot, total time talking to vet... about a minute and a half. To be as objective as possible, while the top 2 events werent what Id call ideal, they still didnt warrent me taking time to post this review ... but... 3rd and worst - Ordered heartworm medicine online from 1800petmeds, had to put vet info in so they could contact grant avenue and verify my dog could have it. Grant avenue refused to send in verification and instead called me and told me to buy from them instead and that they would pricematch exactly what I was paying to petmeds, just bring the receipt in he said. First off, this is really shady to me, if you dont want to lose my business than offer the drug at the same price originally. Dont HIJACK my order with another company which Ive already paid. Lucky for him, I actually took him up on it so I could get it that day instead of waiting. I called petmeds and had them re-credit my card and stopped by Grant Avenue with my receipt. I got this response "Oh we cant match that sale price, sorry". Learn to value other peoples time please. Very unsatisfied customer here. UPDATE: Grant Avenue now refuses to give confirmation to 1800petmeds. They would rather I not get heartworm medicine at all if they dont get my business. I guess Ill go buy some non-prescription version this time around.

I was very disappointed in Grant Avenue Pet Hospital with my visit today. I had taken my cat in for a claw trim during a busy time (dog with a broken foot and a dog with a seizure). I was told they do not take appointments for trimmings. I decided to wait as its already near impossible to get my cat out of the house before he gets really nervous and has a mini panic attack. A vet tech came into the waiting room, looked at my cat and I, and said, "Trim?" I nodded and this tech came over and picked up my cats carrier and began walking away. I followed and was told I could not go back with him due to the surgeries. This upset me for a few reasons. 1. This vet tech had not even introduced herself to myself or my cat. 2. I was not given the option to wait longer for a room that I could observe in. 3. The tech came back before I even finished paying my bill. Although I appreciate the quick visit, there is no way my cat was treated with caring and loving hands in that short amount of time. I would have rather waited 3 hours to get a room that I would be able to observe in over my cat being marched off to some back room that I was not allowed in and be out in an extremely short amount of time. I looked at my cats claws after the visit and saw one nail was hanging halfway off (not fully cut). If you had asked me my opinion on this vet 4 hours ago, I would have said my cat and I had finally found our Springfield vet, however, after being treated as an inconvenience to the staff, I will be taking my cat elsewhere, even if it means driving 3 and a half hours to our home vet in Saint Louis. I hope no one else experiences this kind of customer service at Grant Avenue Pet Hospital.

Dr. Brite and every single one of her staff are absolutely amazing. My first time here I took a very sick 12 and 1/2 month German Shepherd in. She was in renal failure of unknown origin. Dr. Brite suggested some more specialized care and diagnostics at the University in Columbia, MO. She got together all the information and made all the arrangements for us. All we had to do is show up. She was wonderful and there was no doubt of her genuine concern for our dog, Lyssa. It turned out that Lyssa had a significant congenital defect with her kidneys that meant certain and agonizing death in the very near future. My husband and I made the decision to take her home for one last night with her and go ahead and have her put down the next day. We took her to Dr. Brite for the euthinasia. Once again, the staff was stellar. Everyone from the young lady at the front desk to the assistants to Dr. Brite could not have been more caring, comforting and attentive to ours and Lyssas needs. (I regret that I did not get all their names, every single one deserves recognition.) Dr. Brite ensured her comfort by administering good sedation prior to the drug that would stop her heart. She went peacefully and comfortably in our laps. These guys have a customer for life. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Brite and her phenomenal staff. God Bless them...

This morning I picked up a stray cat I was having neutered at SAAF House. The girl informed me the cat had tape worms, so I headed over to Grant for wormer. I was surprised to see it was over $16 to worm one cat for one type of worm, and realized I didnt have enough cash. I had left my bank card at home. I was 75 cents short of the cost. Ive been going to Grant for over 10 years, and have had many animals treated there over the years, but even though I have a huge file, and have been a good and steady customer, I couldnt be trusted for the 75 cents. I should mention Dr. Rund wasnt in the office. Im sure he would have waved me through. The receptionist was absolutely devoid of personality, and basically never even asked anyone else in authority if I could have the 75 cent credit. I stood there like an idiot for 15 minutes; being ignored. Finally, I told them to forget about it; I would get it somewhere else. Ive really never been treated so badly. The first thing to greet me when I walk in the front office was a sign on their receiving desk must pay for service before picking up animal The sign is as big as my purse, and sits in the very center of the counter. This tells me, that getting the money is more important than anything else. Its a nasty way to greet a customer. Ill be taking my business elsewhere.

The facilitys leave a lot to be desired. My dogs seemed very uncomfortable there which is very uncharacteristic of them since they visit many businesses with me. The vet who looked at my dog couldnt answer many of the questions I asked. The few he could answer were very very vague and had no explanations if i questioned his opinion. His concern that my 10 week GSD pup had not lost any "puppy" teeth absolutely infuriated me. I can deal with sub-par facilities but not incompetence. I took a chance with this clinic because it was closer to home and was told they were suppose to be knowledgeable of the German shepherd breed. I got a same day appointment when I called to schedule. That should have been a red flag!!! But I only needed vaccines so I was not concerned. I was very wrong! I now happily drive across town to Bradford park who typically have a 3 week wait for appointments but have made time for me when I stop by for something I need done.
