I stayed at this hospital via transport from a different hospital. I have never been in a rehab facility or psychiatric hospital, but, my experience with most "professionals" there at the hospital; was horrible. Whenever, I would ask a nurse to see a doctor or for my scheduled medications, she would completely ignore me. These nurses during the day time, hate to go the extra mile and help! For example, if there are three nurses, one is taking care of a patient and the other two are doing nothing??? Then, how come they cannot help me? All the nurses care about is their paycheck. I got admitted for some anxiety which was considered Mental Health and I was experiencing withdraw symptoms from my addiction issues from meth and opiates! So, I asked the nurse if I could have so-boxen to help lessen the withdraw symptoms, and she just gave me a bad attitude; telling me I am in here for mental health! When actually they should have classified me as chemical dependency. So I stayed there for about 4 days, my room was freezing cold because the air conditioning that was on blast; never got fixed, people came but nothing changed. The bathrooms, are horribly dirty, the hygiene products and dirty towels are never picked up by medical staff which is their job. Also, from my experience there was blood in a couple units within the bathrooms that staff addressed and did not take action to clean it or report it. They have a post for patients saying to "keep up after yourself to prevent bugs" but, even the side boards have tons of dust, which caused my roommate at the time to sneeze and be congested the whole night. It is pathetic that the housekeeping doest correctly sweep the facility, nor replace trash bags and my bedding has not been washed the whole time I was staying there. The nurses do not administer medications on time or as scheduled by the doctor. When they are busy with whatever it is, they will just ignore you and treat you like a number. The bedding is in need of more blankets because it is freezing cold! The hygiene products given to us, are great besides the fact that a brush is safer than a comb and we were not allowed to have any brushes. Also, my lips ended up really chapped. This hospital is about health and well-being right? Just because some patients are mental or struggling does not mean it is "ok" or right for us to be treated poorly and not loved, especially by MEDICAL STAFF. I highly recommend this place updates hygiene products by providing a brush which is less sharper than a comb and chap--stick. Even, if we have to put the chap-stick on in front of medical staff, at least our lips will not be dried out, and those trying to hurt themselves cannot have self possession of the chap-stick but can have access to it by medical staff. Patients come here because they need help and healing, they did not come here to be treated rudely and nurses having mean attitudes talking behind patients backs when they are not around and making fun of them, so unprofessional. My doctor Pruette was one of the best Psychiatric Doctors I ever had, he was very understanding and gave me some recommendations for detoxing. The groups were ok, this was probably one of my best parts here, we did some guided mediation which I never tried but after I got done, felt so relieved and relaxed. The Techs, I have not had any problems with, only the nurses and some other doctor. Also, there are people who walk in with no clothes, so I think it would be great for WEST HILLS MEDICAL STAFF to create a flyer stating what clothes are acceptable and can be donated and given to people who do not have clothes. Also, when bibles are needed the most There was not even one in the whole unit! People need God and to know him, but if there is no bibles?? Then, how can patients be delivered from their addictions. Only go here, if your on your last straw, it is like prison/ institutionalized hospital. The staff only care about their job not the patients. Joe and Ghasa are nighttime nurses and were the best. Daytime nurses are horrible @ caring.

My son was at this facility for almost a month. The care was HORRIBLE. They treat their patients like prisoners and have NO rehabilitative care, nor do they help their patients set up successful discharge plans. The hospital staff are very rude and non-empathetic. My husband and I were scheduled to meet with Allison, the Director of the hospital to discuss the our concerns and she failed to show up at the scheduled meeting that SHE set. My husband made it clear to Allison that he was travelling from out of state to meet with her and that he was cancelling a very important negotiations meeting with an employer to meet with her. She assured him that she and the doctor would BOTH be at the meeting. My husband and I took off work and drove three hours to Reno to meet with them only to be met with the social worker Gina. This was quite surprising since Allison knew that we were wanting to discuss the fact that Gina left a voicemail on my phone prior to the meeting indicating that they were going to have to release my son from their care, because his Kaiser insurance had met its maximum payment for his care there. None the less we gave Gina significant information regarding my sons current condition and our concerns about them releasing him due to the insurance running out. After our meeting with Gina my husband got a call from Dr. McBride and she indicated to him that she was going to motion the court for revocation of my sons rights, so that she could give him medication and stabilize him giving him a chance for a successful discharge. Not even a week had past and Dr. McBride released my son when he was still in very poor condition and was not able to care for himself safely. Dr. McBride was fully aware of his unstable mental state and negligently released him anyhow. She stated that he was given an injection the day before she released him to the street and indicated that he was safe to leave. He was rushed to the ER less than 12 hours after Dr. McBride negligently released him. Dr. McBride released him less than 24 hours ago. I would give this hospital zero stars if the rating would allow for it.

This place is absolutely horrible. I am 35, a father of two, husband, college graduate and a professional in Reno. I pretty much had a mental breakdown when I had a little to much to drink and was taken here from the ER for a 72 hour legal hold. It is nothing but a jail that forces pills down your throat. While you are there you are with people in detox, people babbling and talking to themselves and then also people with depression/suicidal problems. When you get there they give you the rules and then you are pretty much on your own except some useless group sessions that are for the most part lead by other patients and not professionals. Most of the rules are what you would expect and most people didnt have a problem with conforming, but one rule that wasnt followed was hygiene. It stated you needed to shower once a day and easily 1/3 of the people there smelled so bad I dont think they had bathed in a week or more. The doctors were a joke. One seemed more doped up than many of the patients, the other two were just plain useless and there was one that was decent, Dr. Lay (sp?). All psychiatrists and no psychologists. Another rule, might even be a law, was that you were to be seen by a doctor within 24 hours of getting there. This isnt the case either. Most of the patients that were there when I was were very unhappy with the care they received. Its a tough situation when you are suicidal and/or have a breakdown. The ER experience is horrible and demeaning and then they send you here if they think it is necessary. So you may not have a choice, but if you are proactive and seek help before you are forced to get help GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!! I think the only other choices are out of town, but when I am down and out the last thing I need is an experience like this. Took me a month to get weened off the meds they gave me there that literally made me worse and when I called the doctor with my concerns I wouldnt get a call back for days. I finally just went to Google to read about the meds and to learn how to get off them. This place is so bad it needs to be shut down.
