Ok first off I dont understand why there are so many bad reviews, this place is AMAZING! Over all my experience at this vet has been amazing. The staff is so caring and kind, and I believe they really do have the best interest of the animals at heart. There is even a vet that lives on the premises to monitor the animals over night. They also offer discounts for NMSU students as well. My dog was hit by a car and her left back paw was really screwed up, Im talking bones exposed and her Achilles tendon was cut. This is the closest vet to my house so this is were we rushed her to. She immediately went back and they started work on her. They did what they could do for her with out putting her under anesthesia, and I will say they did wait for my permission to put her under because it is rather expensive (so sue them for trying to save you money). The staff was so friendly and there were 3 vets on her team. She went into surgery that lasted 4.5 hours, now that is dedication. During surgery I received hourly updates via phone call to let me know how she was doing. After the surgery was done the vet personally called me himself to give me a more in depth update on her. She stayed over at the vet for 3 days, each morning the vet would call me and give me an update and then each evening a vet tech would call with another update. The allowed me to visit her and told me to call for updates whenever I wanted. When I went in to pick my dog up the vet even walked me out and told me to not hesitate to call if I had any questions. Best vet I have ever been to and I will definitely be taking my dog there from now on. I will also be recommending this vet to anyone that needs one. On the day my dog was hit I probably spent about 2.5-3 hours in the officer and everyone seemed friendly, the staff walks out with you and none of the customers seemed dissatisfied.

Our dog got out while we were gone and someone took injured dog to Calista Animal Hospital. The dog had one pupil dilated and was bleeding from his rectum and penis. They waited until they got ahold of us on the phone until they gave him an IV and pain medication. I find that extremely cruel. Because of the situation, we left him at this vet to be treated. We were out of town and had limited phone service. I gave them a credit card number and told them flat out that if anything needed to be done to save our dog, do it. They still waited until they could talk to us on the phone before they would do anything (even xrays and blood work). Based upon the initial symptons, I had been worried about internal injuries and bleeding. They even told me that a ruptured bladder was a medical emergency. After two days, the dog finally had surgery to repair a ruptured bladder. He passed away on the operating table. While I do not know if the outcome would have been different if I had had him transfered to the vet that I trust and use for all of our small animals, I know that I would not be second guessing why they waited so long for treatment. Also how can you have an animal in pain and shock in your clinic and not treat it immediately? I had not heard about this clinic before this incident. Now, I have had people tell me that they are sorry that was where our dog ended up. One stated that if she had know it had been Calista, that she would have moved our dog herself. There are good vets in town. Find them.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!!! Being from Washington state, I rely heavily on word of mouth and Google reviews. I tried Jornada Vet and Las Cruces Emergency Clinic; Jornadas lobby wait time is ridiculous and the "Emergency" clinic declined to see my animal because they were closing soon. During my emergency episode, I stumbled upon Calista Animal Hospital. My truthful testimony is that they went above and beyond what I wouldve expected from any medical professional. Because I was denied at Las Cruces Animal Emergency Clinic, I sat in front of Calista Animal Hospital at 7:20am waiting for them to open. I noticed an employee sitting in his vehicle and approached him with my situation. Not only was he helpful and compassionate, he opened the clinic up 30 minutes before they were scheduled to. The attending vet techs stabilized my dog and hopped on the phone with the veterinarian ... ALL BEFORE 8:00am. In short, I highly recommend Calista Animal Hospital. I understand this is not an emergency hospital and is only open during day hours but if you can wait, its well worth it to be in excellent, informative, and caring hands. They are very disorganized. When I took my first dog there as a puppy, she ended up getting a 3 year rabies vaccination two years in a row because they didnt bother to look at or read her records. They wouldnt have known if I hadnt pointed it out (after the fact). I had to argue with 2 managers to convince them that I shouldnt have to pay for it when it wasnt even needed in the first place. I feel that their charging of vaccinations is also unfair as they wont give vaccinations without a mandatory exam fee. They just do this to make sure they are making more than what their inflated prices for vaccs already are. Finally, there is no excuse for how late/delayed they can be at times. I know its an emergency hospital but it has happened more than once. The last time we went, we waited 1 hr. and 45 minutes for an appointment we had. Another guy had been waiting 3 hours for a basic vaccination that he had an appointment for. All I can say is do not make appointments for Saturday if you do go there.

Apparently if you are a new client, see this vet for a chronic skin condition for your dog, tell this vet that you use a dog food that is only sold by vets (so "prescription" but its not like it has a controlled substance in it, its just food that only vets can sell), show this vet all the paperwork from the dermatologist your dog also is a client of, the vet wont note it in your file and the front desk staff will still tell you that you need a prescription written by your old vet to buy this food from them (even as they see you are a client of their clinic!!!!!). Apparently the front desk staff is both unaware that prescription food is a cash cow for them, and that prescription food does not contain a controlled substance. Further, at what point does this clinic actually believe Im a client? Every time I need a service, I"m going to have to prove Ive received it elsewhere first despite a patient record on file?

I had a terrible experience with the Calista Clinic. This place seems very chaotic and ill-managed. It seemed like every time I went to this clinic, my pet was seen by a different vet. On at least one occasion, I made an appointment with one vet, and a different vet showed up for the appointment! As a result, no one seemed to have the complete picture about my pets illness, when I was trying so hard to find a diagnosis. One one occasion, the vet just walked out of the appointment, without saying goodbye, when I still had questions for her. Very often I had the feeling that my pet was not important, and that I was taking too much time by asking questions and trying to get information. Also, on a couple of occasions when I called to try to get more information, and I was never called back. This was a terrible experience for me. Steer clear of this place.
