I cannot believe the problems Im having with this practice since Mission took it over and Dr. Foy and Robertson retired! Im trying to get a routine medicine refilled.I took it as directed by Dr.Schoof although her directions to the pharmacy on the original prescription were different from her verbal directions to me. . Now Im out of it. The pharmacy refuses to refill it, even though it says 2 refills. They say its too soon. I spoke to the office 3 different times yesterday about this, explaining the problem. Never will they allow me to speak to Dr. Schoof, or else shes too good to speak to a patient except through an incompetent who cannot relay a detailed message correctly. The third time, the office called me back, after I told them the pharmacy required a NEW prescription, written correctly before they will fill it.,again.The person said, "its been taken care of. And she says you are to take 2 in the morning and two at bedtime."(Which I already knew that part.) So going back to the pharmacy last night for the third time about this medication, and they say.."We havent heard from your doctor about this yet." This nightmare is not the first miscommunication about medications either.Im ready to leave this practice entirely if I can find one not associated with Mission Hospital. The med is nothing anyone would want to abuse..its metformin, and its makes you so sick anyway. Why is this so hard? The office used to run on time and smoothly too.Not anymore. You always have to sit and wait and wait and wait. The doctors never call you back and the staff screws up the message. Once I had a question about the metformin, and by the time the answer was relayed back to me, the nurse was answering about a different drug entirely ,rosuvastatin.Had absolutely nothing to do with my original question!!! To say Im very unsatisfied with the practice now would be an understatement!!! Just spoke with the staff at length. They fax my prescription to Ingles and charted that but Ingles has no record of that. Is a broken fax the root cause of some of this? Is the office faxing the correct Ingles? I still wonder... because of the experience before with the answers about the wrong drug!!!

I was a patient at Asheville Family Medicine (AFM) for nearly six years (I moved recently). My primary care physician (Dr. Emily Diznoff) *and* all the other AFM physicians I saw over the years (when Dr. Diznoff was not available) were excellent. They listen exceptionally well; encouraged me to ask questions; explained my condition and treatment plan in terms I understood; and were always available for follow-up questions or appointments if needed. I reviewed a few of their evaluation results and treatment plans with friends and family who are physicians, and these other doctors always told me things like, "Sounds right on target to me, I would have done the same." The office staff--especially Wendy--were consistently friendly, courteous, efficient, and professional. I highly recommend Asheville Family Medicine.

Dr. Schoof is competent and has strong interpersonal skills. However, I have chosen to leave this practice for three reasons: (1) It is exceedingly difficult to make an appointment. (2) When I am able to make an appointment, wait times are excessive. (3) I requested changing to another doctor in the practice, whom my husband sees. This required special permission by both doctors. The third item was the final straw. I do NOT need special permission to leave the practice -- which is exactly what I have done. I have now found a doctor who is more accessible, at an office that allows me to see any doctor in the practice if I need to do so.

The staff was very rude. I will never go back to this place. The lady at the front desk was very loud while discussing my insurance information as well as asking questions about my medical history.
