Let me just start off by saying, the staff was very nice and understanding. I took my mom in to be detoxed and to get help for her ongoing alcohol problem of 10+ years. This place was suggested strongly by our insurance company. After 4-5 hours, they discharged her. They said they didnt have any open beds, after letting her sober up. My mom finally admitted she needed help and this place doesnt have anything in store for those with alcohol problems when they dont have an open bed. I know this isnt the fault of anyone who works here.. but whoever is in charge most defiantly needs to figure out a solution. Considering this is a place where people with alcohol (and drug) problems frequently go to receive help, I was very disappointed that they did not try to find her help outside of the facility. I was told there is no psychiatric unit, or therapists on site which disgusts me! Are people that struggle with suicidal thoughts or even try to commit suicide just discharged after the current problem is solved?! They need to come up with a better system to support the people that come in with life threatening issues outside of car accidents, falling off a ladder, common illnesses, and so on! Thank God we were able to find her a bed elsewhere in a little over 24 hours.. thats enough time for someone looking for help to change their mind! Oh, and Id also like to point out that they put my mother in the hallway and we were forced to either sit at the head of the bed or not sit with her at all. We need to make a difference and help this world change to support our people that struggle with addiction, especially if you are going to have a hospital based on helping people with addiction. We could have taken her to our local hospital and received on site therapy and psychiatry, but took her here because we were not told on the phone that they had no beds open! The hospital near where we live also would have found her placement ELSEWHERE instead of simply discharging her! STOP LETTING PEOPLE DIE AND KILL THEMSELVES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PUT SOMETHING IN PLACE TO HELP THESE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ADVERTISE THAT YOU SPECIALIZE IN THAT! I would personally like to thank the nurses that did speak to me, and told me how much of a great job I was doing dealing with all of this. I give the staff that I encountered a full 5 stars, but as for the doctor that wouldnt even speak to me, and spoke to my mom ONE time when they werent even that busy, I give you 1 star. You chose to be a doctor, now do your job and SAVE LIVES... if thats not your goal here, then you shouldnt be a doctor. In my opinion, the nurses who work here should transfer somewhere else where their amazing intuition will be recognized and used! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN OUR VISIT AND WILL NOT BE BACK!

Unfortunately this system does not allow zero stars which is what the Mercy ER deserves following a recent visit. The waiting room was not busy...me and one other patient. ER did not appear busy yet wait time was excessive. My hospital ID had a Dr. Burger listed. After getting settled into a patient room I had to explain my symptoms several times. I was exhibiting strep and or flu symptoms wuth a severe sore throat, difficulty swallowing... A Nurse Practitioner named Stephanie Patterson came in to assess my symptoms. I explained I had been taking OTC meds for fever, pain and cough and was getting no relief. It was very difficult to speak because of the pain. Each question she asked she would interrupt during my answer. I was not tested for strep, flu, etc however Stephanies brilliant diagnosis was a COLD maybe the FLU. (Yeah, I often waste my money on an ER trip for a cold...BS) When I asked why a test was not done to confirm her brilliant diagnosis her response was "we only do those tests if we admit patients. I was given a prescription for Magic Mouthwash (a compound of lidocaine, benadryl, nystatin). A pharmacist friend thought that alone was negligent. I have never encountered a "health care professional" with absolutely NO professional skills whatsoever. When I left I stopped at the reception desk and told the receptionist that I had NOT seen Dr. Burger and I would not only never return to Mercy ER but I certainly should not be billed for a DOCTOR when I did not see one. It is now 5 days since getting ill. I am much worse, fever is difficult to control, chest pain, rapid shallow breathing with wheeze. Will I return to Mercy? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Considering going to my family out of state to see a REAL doctor

My wife came in the emergency entrance with pain at 10 and vomiting. It took an hour to get into a room, which wouldnt bother me if they would care AT ALL about trying to help the pain while she waited. The threw up 3 times in the emergency waiting room with no one blinking on the staff. When we got in the room we had the WORST nurse Ive ever seen. Bad bedside manner would be one thing, but straight up HORRIBLE at her job. Needs to leave medicine all together. She put multiple needles in my wifes arm and when she finally realized how much pain that was causing ng on top of the original she was dealing with her response was "oh well its a clean draw, see theres blood in the needle". No apology, no can I get you something for the pain, no nothing. My wife was in tears the whole time she was in the room, yet not one person checked on her and when we asked for ANYTHING for the pain the response was "you just got your iv, someone will be along later". When someone finally came to take her to imaging they finally brought needles for pain. My wife couldnt move the pain was so bad, so it took time to transfer to the wheelchair. I asked if she could get the pain meds to start working and maybe make it a little easier to move to the wheelchair. Once again the response was "she was a difficult stick, and Im waiting till she gets into the chair". WORST WORST WORST CARE IVE EVER SEEN!!!!! TO IGNORE A PATIENT IN PAIN IS ABOMINABLE!!!!! TOTAL JACKWAGONS IN THIS PLACE!!!!!!

I wasnt going to write a review until I received paperwork from a collections agency yesterday stating I owe them $512 now $593 because someone added an extra $81 that they will NEVER get. Long story short, I went to the ER some years back because my throat was sore to the point that I could not swallow. I had strep throat before, so I figured it might be the same thing going on. So, I tell the RN that I think I have strep-throat and she gives me a shot of Penicillin. No tests were done, no swab used or anything. A few weeks later, here comes a bill thats $512. I basically told these people what I thought was wrong with me and they took my word and charged me that much money. Now they dont want to remove this from my credit. For that purpose, I will never ever go to Mercy ever again and I will make sure I contact the right people to get their mess off my credit report. They are a joke and I dont take them serious. Be careful if you choose to go here for anything.
