Lack of compassion, sense of urgency, or respect for my needs and my pups. We needed urgent help just to confirm if he had eaten batteries and all they cared about was a poison control case number. I would have gladly called poison control back once my pup was sent to the x-ray room. But to make that the issue of holding back care was such a disappointment. He needed care not a case number it was simple he either ate batteries or he did not lets confirm while I get the case number not question me about it for precious moment when acid could be damaging the insides of my best friend ( I should have had the case number but i could have just called back and got it while he was getting looked at) I made errors too, difference is i was distraught and they were getting paid to do a job. This used to be my go to for my three dogs, until last night my basset hound was thought to have eaten two batteries. When my fiance and I arrived we were distraught and so was our pup. The staff was busy and did not seem to take concern. I had called poison control already but did not have a case number. I had hung and ran out of the house and did not get the case number. All I wanted was an x-ray to prove or disprove that my pup had eaten batteries. The staff was hung up on this case number, I understand the importance of the case number, as I am medically trained as well. The fact remains we would know exactly what was inside the pup if he was given the X ray. The SDS sheet would let us know what we were dealing with. Once we proved that then we could call a toxicologist. But instead I stood at the counter and had 2 different employees keep asking about a irrelevant number. They had made me so upset that I will never return. these precious moments cost us treatment time. I can never forgive this office for that, that dog is my best friend and family member. I had to drive another 30 minutes where a vet was waiting on him and he was met at the door and rushed inside to do an x ray. That was the service I was looking for I had already told the Avian clinic on the phone that money was not an issue but they still were hung up on paperwork etc. We just needed to make sure he had eaten the batteries. so for these reasons I can no longer take my pups here. We had a good relationship until I had an emergency and was treated with a lack of urgency or compassion for my pup.

I was very unhappy with the care my hamster received here. I have moved several times and therefore have taken him to several vets as he has diabetes, and this was by far my worst experience. I took him in because he was lethargic and a pouch was swollen. When the vet came in she asked what was going on and before I had got more than a sentence or two out she was loudly talking over me and did not seem to care about the history leading up to the visit. She also did not believe his diagnosis of diabetes and said "hamsters are prey animals, it makes sense they would have higher blood sugar" - and while yes I believe there is truth to that, severe glycosuria and ketonuria... how is that an adaptive response?? If ketones are in his urine that means his body is not using the glucose in his blood stream (and if glucose is in his urine that means it is excessively high in his blood stream and is spilling over into his kidneys!) and his body is breaking down other things for energy which long-term is NOT healthy. In addition my other two hamsters do not have glucose or ketones in their urine. I am not a vet but I understand how diabetes works and several other vets have confirmed the diagnosis. When he started on glipizide his urine output went down drastically (was abnormally high before) and the ketones in his urine disappeared... that is enough proof for me. His breed is also very susceptible to diabetes... the fact that she did not know this and was not open to considering it was very concerning. She did not want to hear about his history at all and did not seem to believe this diagnosis. Other small things left a really bad taste in my mouth... before she had started examining him, when he was still in his travel cage she stated "the fact that he isnt scared of me means hes really sick" - why should he have been scared? She wasnt banging on his cage or talking loudly and hadnt touched him at all. He is a friendly little guy and loves people and yes he was sick but that was not evidence of it. It just concerned me that she would assume he is terrified of people... some hamsters are but definitely not all of them. I gave them two stars because the nurse and front desk staff were very nice and compassionate and their prices were very reasonable. I do not know how they are for cats and dogs but I would NOT recommend them for pocket pets.

Have been coming here for a while now and with four different pets. Have had MULTIPLE bad experiences but continued to come due to convenience of location and good hours. Safe to say I wont ever take a pet here again. The only good thing about this place is their front desk staff (very nice people who have an obvious love for animals). I took my dog in to get groomed and she was clipped in her private area multiple times by the groomer (the vet even said she does not understand how the extent of this injury could have happened especially when they told me my dog is very well behaved when she gets groomed) and when I took her in to be examined by the vet I had to pay $50 for a spray to treat her wound caused by their staff. When my dog became suddenly blind the doctor diagnosed her with SARDS and pushed me off to a specialist. I called almost every day for a week and a half asking to speak with him because I knew something more was wrong, as she was not acting anything like the dog I had for 9 years since she was a puppy and her health was rapidly deteriorating. I was only ever given the option to leave a message and not speak with him directly. His answer every time was basically exactly the same, just worded differently; "Well she is blind now". Turns out my dog had a brain tumor and because of their misdiagnosis and refusal to take me seriously my dog suffered in severe pain until she had to be put down. Ive since taken two new kittens there for check up exams/ upper resp. infections and not only are they extremely over priced, but the vets rush through the exams, provide minimal information, and dont really seem to know what they are talking about. $112 for a 20 minute visit; took weight, temp, and told me what I already knew and gave me two prescriptions.

I use AAMC frequently for medical care for my pet rats. It is wonderful to have a place to take them where there are doctors who actually specialize in their care. Usually, "pocket pets" are dismissed as having no value, or are treated by vets who know very little about them, but AAMC is like their very own "specialist". They understand my attachment to my little guys, and how I want good care for them. The price I pay for care is very reasonable. I dont understand why people begrudge veterinarians a fair fee for their service, and they need to keep in mind that medical costs are not cheap. Education and equipment cost money, and vets have a right to make a fair living, and be able to hire good assistants, and pay the bills..AAMC has WONDERFUL assistants, who always listen to my concerns about my animals and get us in to be seen in a timely fashion, knowing that minor illness can become major in a rat in no time at all. And when I have had a loss of one of my pets, they are very understanding of my grief, even over a little respected animal such as my rats. They know how much my animals mean to me and treat them with dignity and great care. I HIGHLY recommend AAMC for any animal, regular or exotic.
