Knee Replacements: New Life Hindsight is usually a powerful tool. It gives you perspective from the past so you can evaluate the present. Basically, it gives you the lesson after the experience, so you can learn from it. That’s how I feel about my two knee replacements, BOTH less than 6 months ago. Here’s an example: PAST: “Wonder how far we have to walk once we get there?” PRESENT: “Hope we park out so I can get more exercise!” PAST: “I can’t take THAT aerobic class – too hard on my knees!” PRESENT: “I can take them ALL and use two risers on my STEP bench!!” The list goes on; the theme’s the same: WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO DO THIS????? In August, then again November, I had two total knee replacements including a leg straightening, a short stay in a care facility, two weeks physical therapy, and was back to the gym in 14 days. It’s been daily aerobics ever since and I’m back to two risers on my STEP bench. All of this is thanks to the expertise of Dr. Matthew Langenderfer and the great care team of Reconstructive Orthopedics. After hearing Dr. Langenderfer’s diagnosis and the certainty in his voice as he told me, I knew the only possible corrective measure was a total knee replacement. In BOTH knees. I feel that I received the best possible medical plan, procedure and post operative care I could have possibly had anywhere. I feel fortunate my steps were guided in this direction. Working out at the gym every day and faithfully performing my pre op leg strengthening exercises put me in the best possible shape for the surgeries. Losing weight also helped. As I said before, I now have no pain, no restricted movement, no swelling and 100% increased mobility. I feel like I’ve truly turned the clock back 30 years and recaptured the enthusiasm and spring in my step from years past. I had forgotten what it felt like to be pain free. Now I remember. I’m glad I “took the chance” and moved forward into an unknown, somewhat apprehensively at first, but always in good hands. I read once that in the end, it’s not so much the things we DO that we regret, it’s the good things we DON’T DO. Well, after this, not any more! Jo Anne Calland

Saw Dr. Langenderfer for what I thought was patellar tendonitis. They took X-rays and told me there was no bone damage which I already knew. Then they put pressure on the rest of my knee and determined there was no ACL or MCL damage which I already knew. After that the Dr prescribed anti inflammatory gel and gave me some tendon bands and told me to come back in 6 weeks. Turns out the tendon band was an additional charge which is too bad because I already had one. Plus nothing they gave me helped the pain I was already experiencing so the whole appointment was a waste of time and money. They rescheduled the follow up for 9 weeks after my initial visit so after getting the extra bill I went to cancel and they didnt ask why nor did they try to reschedule. Good thing I got such great care and was a valued customer. I found out more online than I did from this doctor. And they complain about Web MD patients in their profession. Maybe if they cared more about fixing my knee and less about collecting from their vendors they wouldnt have this problem. Thanks for nothing.

Called to request an appointment for my daughter after she injured her foot over a holiday weekend. Were referred by a hospital Dr. and told to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Referred this information to the receptionist who took my call and the first question I was asked was if I had insurance and had to provide all insurance information. She then asked for all my daughters personal information including address, DOB, SSN and medical history. Only then did she look at the schedule and tell me that they have one doctor that sees children and he was not working that day and his schedule was Completely full for the following day. She apologized and referred me to our Pediatrician and advised there wasnt anything she could do to get us in the time frame requested by the doctor at the hospital. So I was on the phone for 10 minutes and didnt find out until 9 minutes into the call that they couldnt help me- after they took all personal and insurance information.

@DrMurphy was too busy listening to himself speak for one whole hour. I talkyd for 4 minutes. He had never completed the procedure before but wanted to go ahead and resurface my hip. @DrShaw said he would give me a shot of medicine and it would take care of me for a month. Shot didnt help at all so it left me feeling like they have no idea what they were doing. So I went to Beacon Orthopedics for a third opinion and met @DrStevenHamilton. He immediately identified the spur on my hip, torn labrum and a chip floating around inside of my hip. As I told the prior doctors I was in severe amount of pain and Dr Hamilton put me on the schedule for the surgery the next week. Im pain free for two weeks and a total fan of @BeaconOrthopedics. Moral of the story get a second opinion and then a 3rd opinion dont work with a guy that matches his bow tie to the socks

I had my right shoulder scoped in 3 places. The surgery was a breeze and the pain was minimal. When I went to physical therapy 10 days after surgery, the therapist could not believe how much flexibility I had already. When he asked my surgeons name...I told him Dr. Matthew A. Langenderfer. I went bowling 6 weeks after surgery and was back to my old self...even had a game over 200! Ive since had my left shoulder done and am experiencing the same amazing results. No more pain or discomfort. I can bowl, golf, work in the yard...etc.. I have my life back and I owe it to the good people at Reconstructive Orthopaedics and Dr. Matthew A. Langenderfer!

I worked with Dr. McConnell on my shoulder and he was great. I had lots of questions and asked for lots of explanation and he was very clear and patient throughout the process. In addition, the office is well organized and run, so I never had to wait for long (a huge plus if youve ever had to sit in a doctors lobby for 30 minutes or more). The surgery process was also efficient (I went to the Tri Health Evendale surgery center) and everything went smoothly. I would especially recommend Dr. McConnell if you are an athlete.

Reconstructive Orthopaedics is a large practice and probably because they have you believe that surgery is the only option and do not bother to offer any other alternatives. I learned after the surgery that I received that it could have been rehabbed my the slip of the tongue. I have learned after my experience there I will always seek a second opinion.

Dr. Langenderfer treated my son for a broken hand. He was compassionate and communicated in a way that my son could fully understand the diagnosis. I was impressed by both Dr. Langenderfer and his staff. The staff was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend both the doctor and the practice to anyone needing orthopedic care.
