Let me first begin my review by making the following disclaimer about KBMC (myth buster 1): If you are looking for a place that will make you well again, KBMC is NOT for you because KBMC is only meant to be a short-term stay... just enough to re-adjust your medicine and get you just stable enough to be safe and continue with outpatient therapy. If you want long-term intensive treatment, you should seek out a residential program instead. The average stay at KBMC is only 3-5 days. With that being said, KBMC is a nice hospital to go to for a safety net. When youre on the verge of committing suicide or youre having a very bad mental breakdown (myth buster 2: You do NOT need to be suicidal to seek services at KBMC), KBMC is a nice short term place to go to in order to process some of the things going on and get your life back on track. KBMC is not meant to be the all-in-one solution; they grab you before you fall and get you back on your feet... but afterwards you still have to do the walking yourself to better mental health (and to be fair, thats how therapy is supposed to be anyway. A therapist is there to GUIDE you, not FIX you.) There are several staff there always on call if you need someone. Ive had moments where Id wake up in the middle of the night at KBMC ready to burst into tears, and the nurses there were kind enough to take time out of their shift to talk to me and help calm me down. There are unfortunately some downfalls about KBMC, other than the already mentioned fact the stay is very short. First off, weekends are very boring and lack much of anything to do. They dont have that many groups or anything on weekends. Secondly, even weekday groups are kind of lack luster and need something more in order to be more interesting and motivating. Third, the location is high security, and yes, sort of like youre in jail or prison. This is to protect your safety and the safety of others. It is also important to remember that criminals sometimes opt for some services at KBMC if declared mentally disabled in exchange for shorter sentences. However, do not let that deter you because incidents of violence etc. rarely occur at this hospital... and when a patient gets out of line, they issue "Code Alert" building wide via buttons staff wear on them wherever they go, which is a call for staff in all units to report to the emergency. All in all KBMC is a good stepping stone if youre on the verge of a life or death situation. Its not necessarily the best environment especially since you have other patients also dealing with a lot of drama in their lives (so stress levels can get very high very quick if a patient starts losing it and they have to call Code Alert), but its good enough to get you back on your feet and to seek additional resources to continue treatment upon discharge.

The staff was super supportive, but their cleanliness was lacking. I got lice after staying there, and the room that I stayed in smelled AWFUL. There were two beds in my room, one without a blanket and one with a BOOGER on it. On top of that, the carpeting in the day room always had crumbs, which attracted ants. The walls were painted an unattractive brown color; it literally looked like fecal matter was spread across the walls. The shower in my room had hair on the wall, and all of the crayons and other art supplies in the day room were all broken and messy. The blankets felt like beach towels and they wouldnt let you bring in your own blankets or stuffed animals, which broke my heart because stuffed animals help me get through tough situations. This place would be great if there was less stigma and more people contributed to it. Its sad that theres a lack of funding with facilities like this, and its really crummy that this is one of the only places that takes kids in the area. Pretty alright overall, but there just needs to be a little more TLC when it comes to taking care of the place. It also wouldnt hurt if they checked kids for lice or something, or at least they could be a bit more diligent when it comes to cleaning the bedding.

DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HERE! The psychiatrist here could not care less about his patients, you are basically just a number. After my husband confided in his assigned psychiatrist about trying to get his comfortable job back, the doctor told my husband that he didnt need to worry about the job because he wouldnt let him out to get it. The doctor also said that he could find a better job if he tried. RUDE and COULD NOT CARE LESS! I brought my husband to KBMC because I thought Kettering was a name I could trust, but beware, the way they treat their patients is appalling. The receptionists lie when you call (if you can even get them to answer the phone). The woman I spoke to barely spoke English, and after going through 3 different receptionists and giving the correct password, she feebly (and incorrectly) called out my husbands name. She said my husband was unable to talk on the phone, which was a complete lie! She just didnt want to get up from her chair and let him know he had a phone call. After being completely stressed out and worried about your family member, the least these people could do is show some compassion. But they have absolutely none!!! This place is more like a prison than a care facility. BEWARE!!

I dont recommend. A few years ago I was there few times and the nurses treated me like garbage. I get that they arent paid enough to keep you there long term, but they released me after 2 days even though I was still in a bad mental state. It wouldve been okay of they nurses and doctors didnt treat me like garbage and actually cared about getting me to a decent mental state. Havent been back and hope not to be. Hopefully the staff is better now.

okay so , i was just there for self harm and suicide. the place is very helpful and nice. you have to experience it on your own to know what its about. yes , now they check your body for scars and marks and they make you squat and cough but for yours and other peoples safety. they also check for head lice. if you are super suicidal or make any remarks they will put you on 1 on 1 watch where they follow you EVERYWHERE WHICH I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Its nothing like a normal freak place... U get to play Xbox and its amazing! I was kinda sad to leave
