Ive been a patient for years and will never go there again. This past Dec. I had an appointment for my yearly check. The code the Dr had the office bill my insurance wasnt totally cover which left me with $154 dollar eye exam out if my pocket. Over the years years I been going there had a bill like this. So called and ask what has changed. The billing lady said the Dr gives the code for billing which I understand my point what changed? The billing lady turned everything back in me. She asked the following questions.. "what did u tell the front desk when u came in (as in what kind of exam". I told her gave my insurance card and said nothing had change. Now, remember I been going here for years. Never told them before it I wanted an medical eye exam or a eye exam. My point look at my chart I dont know billing codes. I assumed since they been coding my bill for years they would code it again the same way! I informed the billing lady I was going review this situation so others are surprised as I was billing code had changed which cost me a lot of money. Anyway, the billing lady said I was being unfair to give a negative review because it was my insurance not paying. I called my insurance before I reviewed and they said the way the office coded the visit is why they didnt pay as much like past. According to the billing lady I should have said something at the front desk. Which if I knew there was going to happened I would have but again since I been going there for years with the correct coding why would I believe anything would be different. I also the billing lady said u got the eye exam they billed me for. Well it was the same eye exam Ive been getting for years but its seem one has been billed medical which my insurance pays and the other eye which my insurance pays very lit. Also I requested the office like for years send my family Dr a copy of the results which they didnt! Years past they always did. My point.. Dont go there because u could be surprised and billing will belittle you thats its everyone issue instead of there billing code causing the issue!!! Discussed!!

Extremely disgusted and disappointed with the approach that Eye Care Associates uses when billing. As a 10+ year patient, my 33 year old daughter, who has a learning disability, went in for her annual eye exam and was told by the receptionist that because of the recent change in the health care law regarding regular exams, she may (or may not) have to pay more that the $30.00 copay that she had been paying for years. Her insurance is OUTSTANDING and specifically states that it covers regular eye exams. Confused, my daughter asked the receptionist again if it would be covered. She was told that it depended on how the doctor CODED the bill and that she wouldnt know until she received the form from the doctor AFTER the exam. Confused, yet trusting, she had the examine (the exact same procedure for 10+ years). When she took the form to the receptionist, she was told that the exam was not covered by her insurance and she had to pay $165.00!!! Beware of this potential scam!

This is an edit of a former review. I had given APEX a 1 due to the optical shop. I am still holding them to a 3.5 (rounds up to 4) due to communication difficulties. As stated before Dr. Fox is awesome. Her office hours are limited but we both enjoyed visiting her. The optical shop is another story. The expensive contacts are still expensive, however, the charge covered a lot of additional items that were not made clear in my wifes visits. Make sure, before letting them do work that you clarify exactly what it is that you are paying for. I believe that the quality for cost is there, the communication just isnt.

Dont even think about going inside, they will write you a prescription for new glasses without telling you that nothing changed, in fact they lied to me openly saying that my vision was worse and then giving me the exact same prescription I had before. Of course I didnt know it was the same, and only found out after the glasses were done. When confronted with it they had the nerve of saying thats what they always do: "writing a prescription doesnt mean you need new glasses"! What bothered me the most was that they didnt care to apologize, no, they only care about the money they can make, not about their patients!

BEWARE! Wish I had read these other reviews before I went. Eye exam was fine - nothing more than I usually get done. But I did mention that I had concerns about my eye health due to a family history of glaucoma and a personal history of gestational diabetes. Well apparently because I mentioned my health history my bill was coded "diabetes mellitus" which of course my insurance wouldnt cover. The insurances preventative care only covers codes of "refraction". I guess this is a way for them to get more money than what insurance is willing to pay.

I have been very plkeased with the thoroughness of care while examining my eyes, as well as how caring the staff are each step of the way. They have worked to fit both me and my husband with the contact lenses that are just right for each of us, which has sometimes been a bit tryciky over the years. There has never been the least bit of problems at any point in time and only the best of care and customer service.

Dr. Meier and his staff were very friendly and excellent. Yes as mentioned in some other reviews there is a wait time, but it is worth it as the Doctors do spend a good amount of time with the patients to make sure all questions are answered. The front office staff, assistants and opticians are all friendly and helpful as well. My wife and 2 sons will be going here now. :)

WENT ONE TIME FOR MY YEARLY EYE EXAM- NEVER AGAIN- THEY BILLED MY INSURANCE FOR PINK EYE- WHICH I DIDNT HAVE! INSURANCE PAYS 100% FOR EXAMS - THEN THEY SENT ME A BILL FOR 40.00 CO PAY- SO I HAD TO CALL MY INSURANCE TWO TIMES THAT HAD TO CALL THEIR BILLING OFFICE TO GET ALL THIS STRAIGTENED OUT. PATIENT BEWARE!! FELT LIKE INSURANCE FRAUD WITH THIS OFFICE- I WONT BE BACK!!!

Procedure went just fine. The issues began when they took 6 months to correctly invoice my insurer. Tried to bill me for the whole amount because they couldnt correctly do their job. Accounting staff is rude and inept. Their screw ups cost me money because of the timeline and my HRA. Wont be back, there are plenty of other providers in the area.

Any questions I had were answered clearly. Everyone is always friendly and smiling. I am confident with their care of my eyes, including eye infections and removal of eyelid growths, and recently the much-needed cataract surgery. I am so thankful for the clear vision I now enjoy.
