I brought my cat into the clinic last Sunday morning, at 2:30AM, because she was very restless, and seemed to be in quite a bit of pain. I had taken her to another vet not quite 2 weeks before, for an infection and a skin allergy. She had gotten better for a couple of days, then got worse, so I took her to MedVet, as it was the only place open, at 2:30AM. When I got into the clinic, they promptly tried to take her away, and shove her back in a room. I said that I would prefer to keep her with me, and they told me that they wouldnt allow me into the triage room, which was fine, but I told them that we would wait in one of the rooms. They showed me back, and the tech came in to take her vitals, which she did with no problem. She told me the vitals were all normal, but she was acting like she was in pain, so she would tell the vet. After this, I waited for around half an hour for the vet. Instead, another assistant came in, saying she was going to take my cat to the vet. I said that I wanted her to stay with me, so she went and got the vet, who came in, obviously annoyed. They did the exam on her, and took her back for a few minutes to try and put an ultrasound panel on her, to look at her liver, as her liver enzymes had been high when I went to the original vet 2 weeks before, and it also appeared that her belly was distended. When he attempted that, he told me that she "quickly became resentful" about such a simple procedure, and didnt once mention that maybe it was that she was in pain. When he was done examining her, he came to talk to me, and told me that there was something wrong with her, but he didnt know what, and that he wanted to keep her overnight (already 3:30 AM, so we were pretty much there at that point) and do a bunch of tests. I asked a few questions, because I had an appointment for her with the original vet on the Monday after, and knew they would want to run some tests on her. I asked how much it would cost, and if I could wait, so I didnt have to do more than one of the same test. He said, "Well, if your ultimate concern is the cost..." and proceeded to try and make me feel guilty about not doing all the tests he wanted to do. I went home, and since then, the cat didnt move, or eat, or anything else, so I went to another vet, who looked at her, examined her, and promptly told me that she had a tumor, and there was nothing to do for her. I had to put her down. While Im not blaming anyone for her death, I am absolutely shocked and appalled at the lack of concern for my pet shown by these "doctors". I was treated like a criminal for not running tons of tests that would cost me upwards of $1000, when if they had been honest with me in the first place, we could have saved at least a few days of suffering for her. It infuriates me that they were determined to torture this poor cat, who was 15 years old already, to keep her alive, when there was obviously nothing that could be done for her. She was forced to be in pain for days, because no one either had the balls to tell me she wasnt going to make it, or they were so unconcerned about her OR me, that they were willing to do anything to take my money. If you are considering going here, please dont, unless it is ABSOLUTELY the ONLY option. They have no concern for the lives or comfort of these animals, and will take advantage of the love you have for your pet, and use it to milk you dry.

I was on vacation in SC and my cat, which was technically a stray cat but my daughter and I fed him and loved him and took care of him, started having trouble walking. I talked to my mom on Friday 7/14 and she told me she thought I should come back early and take him to the vet. By Saturday 7/15 I was on my way home (a day earlier than planned) he had gone way downhill so my mom and brother went ahead and took him for me. I had made it to West Virginia when my mom called and told me I needed to pull over at the next exit so we could talk. She basically told me what the vet said (he had an awful maggot infested abscess on his hind quarter that had gone through to his tendon and he would need surgery but before he could even have surgery the vet would have to get the infection under control and he honestly didnt think he could at that point). I was a crying mess so my mom put the vet (Im sorry I was such a train wreck I cant even remember his name) on the phone with me and he explained everything again. He was very honest and upfront yet very caring and compassionate all at the same time. He basically told me that he could do what he could to try and save Whiskers but it didnt look good at all and that sometimes we have to do what is right for our pet and not what we think is right for our heart. But he was very clear that if I chose to have him try to save my beloved cat, he would do everything he could. He explained to me that basically he was suffering and in extreme pain and if I chose the surgery route it would most likely just cause the suffering to continue and that there was a high chance he wouldnt even make it through surgery, IF he was even able to make it that far. Soooooooooooo I made the hardest decision Ive ever made after speaking with him and chose to put Whiskers to sleep. I was not personally there but I could tell by the tone of the vet that he cared and was there to help. He didnt lose his patience with me even through all the crying, sobbing and babbling I was doing. My mom and brother said it was a very nice place and EVERYONE they encountered there were extremely nice to them. When the time came after the process was over, they had my mom and brother go to the "right" door, and when they pulled up to that door, one person was carrying the pet carrier and the other person was carrying a little casket with my Whiskers. Today I received a sympathy card from MedVet Associates and inside was an In Loving Memory card that has Whiskers paw prints on it. I thought that was super sweet and it goes to show that they do care. Thank you everyone at MedVets for trying to make this transition as easy as possible on myself and my family. The past few days have been extremely tough but seeing his little paw prints made us all smile.

The MedVet staff is so kind. I gave them 4 stars because if you need to call them, they are so good about helping you out over the phone. I took in my sick cat on a Friday night, and then called everyday over the weekend and they were great to help me. I will say that I would only recommend taking your animal there if you are absolutely sure its an immediate need. I noticed my cat feeling sick Friday night, so I wasnt going to wait until Monday to see a regular vet. It was really hard to make the call knowing from previous experience that taking an animal that wasnt in "rainbow bridge" condition could be quite the wait. But, I was unwilling to take the risk that she would take a bad turn and she was getting worse as I waited. That being said, since my cat wasnt considered to be in critical condition (which I totally understand) she had to sit in a cage for about 6 hours and wait while critical cases kept rolling in ahead of her. It really stressed her out being there for that long and I dont believe since she wasnt in a critical state that the few minutes she actually got seen was worth the $300 and 6 hour wait. We ended up getting the same medicine that we had gotten from the vet days before and a wishy washy answer to what was wrong with her. They did take blood work, but when it came back perfect they didnt take the next step to figure out what was wrong. I had concerns that she was extremely uncomfortable and could barely walk. They stuck with an upset stomach. The medicine that was prescribed actually was what made her constipated, so when MedVet gave us more, it really just made it worse, when it could probably have been prevented. When I took my cat to the regular vet Monday, they took an XRay because of her having a hard time walking and could see she was severely constipated. MedVet put me at ease by checking her vitals, but I didnt feel after leaving that I could sleep at night. I felt that because how many people were waiting she was kind of overlooked. I completely understand that other animals come first, but I would have rather kept her there 7 hours instead of 6 to have a clearer answer as to what was going on. Regardless, Im grateful that there is a place to go with caring people to help our furry friends.
